If you want to know how to pack for a backcountry camping trip, here is a video showing what I packed for a 5 day solo canoe trip in Algonquin Park. This video shows everything I was packing for the entire trip, not just food, but also gear, tent, sleeping bag, etc. Just a note that I am not an expert and I do not claim to be, this is just what I do when I go on a trip. Hope you enjoy the video!

Isn’t it??? Lol! It’s from my knife set at home. I saw it and was like yes!! I’m actually working on a project and I was just filming a video talking about that exact thing on the weekend. I used to pack a steak knife and I made this cardboard holder but it always stabbed stuff anyways. This way, all my stuff is safe, and unstabbed, but I still have a sharp knife in my kitchen kit. 😊 the silicon spatula though. That’s what you gotta have. Especially if you make a lot of stuff with liquid food, like sauces etc. Cleans the pot right out. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nice writeup! I particularly liked the annotations about how something worked on the trip. I've never seen a "what I'm taking on my trip" video do that, but I think it't s great idea. Anyway, very nice video, as always.

D Husky yay!! Thank you so much for the wonderful comment. I’m so glad you liked it. I thought the video was very boring and I figured I should give as much information as possible since it’s been so long since I’ve been waiting to do this video. Hope it helped you somehow. 😊😊😊😊. I have another one next week on kayak packing. Even if you you are a canoer you might get some ideas. Cheers

Fantastic! I love how you break down your meals and snacks that you pack. It's so easy to overpack food when you don't have a planned menu, then you're carrying way too much weight. Thanks so much for sharing!

Informative video! I am waiting for my surgery (2nd/spinal), and hope to be back (after a year unable to walk very far) fishing, hiking, camping again. I dearly miss my 'church', and can't wait to be back enjoying the Nature. Thanks Christina for taking us with you on your adventures!

Another good video! Lots of great info. If it's warm or hot out will those sliced meats be ok after a few days? How was that cheddar packed? Will it keep if its warm out? I think I'll get one of those vacuum bag machines. Seem like a good way to seal things. Is there some reason you don't just use a dry bag for your bear bag?
@CamperChristina
@CamperChristina 6 жыл бұрын
StarGehzer The meats usually keep when it’s hot for a few days. This was a summer trip so it was hot. I wrap the cheese in cheese cloth and it keeps for quite some time that way because it is a hard cheese. I don’t actually vacuum pack them myself the butcher shop I go to does it for me. A dry bag is not bear proof or critter proof and I have never used one to hang my food. Especially going solo I need to be as safe as possible and don’t take any chances. Glad you liked the video. Thank you for taking the time to comment. 😊

hey girl good to see you out... got a question, I know you kayak and canoe which of the two do you prefer.... I have a cheap kayak and want to up grade but the canoe looks inviting also lol keep in mind I'm twice your age and then some.... enjoy your videos

ric cartwright hey Ric! So good to hear from you. Glad you took the time to comment. I honestly love both. Which vessel I use depends on what type of trip I do. That should help with your decision. If you are just straight paddling and not portaging then a kayak might be better, but if you like to do a lot portages and go deep into the back country, a canoe maybe better for you. It really depends on personal preference.

You are the first. I find the breakfast very salty and runny. As a scout leader for 5 years and we had a bunch for the kids and could never get rid of them . Looking forward to the trip footage to keep me going till black fly season ends and I can get out there myself.

Ken O'Donnell The videos for the trip are in the description of this video. I hope you enjoy them. It was one of my favourite trips of the year. I do tend to like salty, so maybe that’s why I like it? But I am a very picky eater and I really enjoyed it. To each his own I guess. Cheers !

Hi!! Do you prefer bringing an Axe or a Saw? and why?? ... thanks
@CamperChristina
@CamperChristina 4 жыл бұрын
Lainy Durocher hi Lainy. I prefer a saw. I’m better with it skill wise. It’s lighter and more compact. I bring a knife with a full tang to use for splitting/batoning wood in combination with a small log or good Rock as a hammer. I also usually just have small fires and use branches over thicker wood. Lmk if that helps? Stay healthy please. 😊

From what I've seen so far on other camping canoeing bushcraft survival videos... The BUGS ARE BAD! What are your suggestions for dealing with the bugs? Thanks for sharing.🌞🌳
@CamperChristina
@CamperChristina 6 жыл бұрын
They were just pesky where I was this past weekend but not really biting. For bugs I spray all my clothing with either permethrin or bug spray before I go on trip. I wear as much light coloured clothing as possible as they are attracted to navy and black more than any other colours. I also have a bug shirt that I wear that I love. it is completely mesh and I got it at canadian tire called a bug blocker. Also I wear a light coloured ball cap with a black bug net over it to protect my face and keep them out of my eyes and ears. This year Bug Blocker has come out with pants also which I bought a few weeks ago. Have not worn them yet but I am sure I will. I also take garlic pills a month before and all during bug season. And new to my fleet is the Eureka No Bug Zone VCS 13 which will be going on my backcountry trips as much as possible until they die down. Hope that helps. :)

This is the shirt, I don't wear the hood part as it is very tight and uncomfortable. I combine this with a baseball hat and bug net. The shirt, hard to see here is completely mesh and very breathable and cool in the summer. i had it on friday night until 11pm with just a tank top under it, so cool but still protected. www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/bushline-youth-bug-jacket-0783032p.html

Hi CamperChristina May I ask how much your pack weighs when it was fully loaded? Just catching up with you at a cat friendly motel in Williams Lake . We are in the middle of a trip through the lower Chilcotin . Weather has been variable - sun, rain and last night it snowed! Really neat to see everything with a dusting of snow.

mrbillmacneill hi there! I’m sorry for the late reply. I was out on trip when I got your message and I’m just now catching up. My pack weighs approximately 45 pounds +10 pounds for the food bag depending on the size of the trip. That is the weight for a 5 to 6 day adventure. So 45-55 depending on food. Hope that helps. Cheers.

@CamperChristina
@CamperChristina 6 жыл бұрын
I LoVE that tarp. it's the Aqua Quest Guide Tarp. 10x 13. Great size and provides a lot of protection. my favourite things about it are the packed size, just a bit bigger than a nalgene and the top centre has a loop which has come in handy in georgian bay where there is sometimes just one tree to use. I only brought my tent footprint on this trip which sufficed and it would've been better to have the tarp, but my bag was all packed and it was something I felt I could do without. But most trips, it's with me. cheers!

Hi Floyd. Thanks for letting me know. It’s strange because I have almost 7000 views on this video and no one has told me that they had a problem with the sound. Is it at all possible the sound issue was at your end? After receiving your comment I listened to the video on my television, 2 different laptops, a desktop and my phone and cannot hear any sound issues. I’m not sure if you realize how much work it is to make these videos and how devastating it is to receive a thumbs down? I do all of this for free to share my experience with others because it is my passion and it’s a huge amount of work, in addition to Camping almost every weekend year-round, working a full-time job, and taking care of a household alone, packing/unpacking, editing pictures and videos and coming up with video ideas etc. I am not an IT person or a computer geek. I’m just a normal person who films these videos to help out others who are maybe new to camping or are looking for help. I am deeply sorry that you had issues hearing the video. When I come across a video on KZfaq I’m not fond of or dislike, I just don’t watch it. Best wishes to you. Cheers.
