Ciao everyone! Pack with me in a carry-on only for 2 weeks in Europe! I used some of my favourite wardrobe basics to create some classic travel outfits while away. I am traveling to London, Copenhagen and Milan. I used the 333 style challenge and the 5-4-3-2-1 packing method and came up with something that worked for me!
Thank you for watching!

Alyssa I've been watching you for years. We have totally different styles and body types, but you've taught me that that really doesn't matter because you've given me a fresh perspective on how to put outfits together. However, the thing I really wanted to say today is please don't ever ever ever lose your perspective and acknowledgment of privilege. I think it's so refreshing and healthy and so rare to see in the KZfaq and fashion communities. You're SO down to earth and have a full-on tether to reality -- and that is honestly what keeps me coming back!!!! (Also...adoro che sei anche italiana come me, ma...sono italiana-americana. Brava!)

I will be really interested to know if you were happy with your final choice of items, any regrets, etc, Alyssa. I watched Christina pack her items, too. You both packed very neutral tones, and I can see the worth in that decision. Safe travels, I know it's for work, but I hope you guys have a ball together ❤️

I’m just coming back from a 3 week trip to Spain with just a carry on and a small backpack. Because we had cool mornings and evenings, and quite warm afternoons, it was all about wearing layers! What I used the most was a lightweight cashmere cardigan that I could wear with everything, and a lightweight cashmere scarf for warmth, and to add some colour. I wish I had packed a blazer, and will next time! I wore a denim jacket which looked good but sometimes I wanted something sharper. And I’m glad I packed a rain coat and umbrella! I took a pair of sneakers, loafers and sandals and that worked for the varying temperature and to give my feet a change! Noticed lots of women were wearing ankle booties, and that would have been a good alternative for my loafers. One pair of jeans, one pair black trousers, one nice blouse, one tank dress, one black casual pant and then some easy tops to wear and wash along the way. A few scarves, some jewellery and I was always dressed appropriately and comfortably! I used to pack way too much but travelling with a carry on is so much easier! Great video, tips and inspiration! Thanks and enjoy your trip!

Would love a follow up that includes what you wore on the plane and the outfit combos during your trip. Also, can you kindly add links to your carry on and backpack. ❤️🙏🏻My tip is to use a dry cleaner bag for the blazer. Doesn’t take any room and prevents wrinkles.

Alyssa, may I suggest you try packing your blazers and jackets turned inside-out? Place one sleeve inside the other. Smooth out the collar and shoulder pads. When you unpack, the creases will be facing inward, be barely noticeable, and the warmth of your body will eliminate the creases very soon. The last time I packed three blazers like this, they arrived perfectly. Love your style!! Keep those wardrobe capsules coming.

The 333 video was really helpful in visually how many different looks you can get from a small number of pieces. Along with this, very helpful for anyone trying to pack light. Big key is don't take duplicates! Make sure the pieces work together but serve different functions.

I went to Paris for a week for New Year and brought a blazer as well but I wore it in the plane. I am also a runner and brought black leggings that also doubled as a casual pant. The big challenge: I had to bring an outfit for New Year ‘s and I settled on a velvet pants and top combo that I could also wear separately. I was quite happy with what I wore because Paris is such a chic place but I felt great. I used a similar approach to yours. Well done Alyssa and have a great trip!❤

I also travel with a carryon Away bag. Since shoes take up so much room, I’ve found that putting each shoe separately in a shower cap (the cheap ones you get at hotels), it makes it easy to squeeze them in wherever there is a bit of room. I even fill the shoes with socks or small items. I enjoy your videos!

Your videos make me happy every week! They're such a great Sunday treat. I would love to see what you wear running if you felt like making a video about that! : ) I'd also love to see a video about what you would wear if you were 50, and a video about little ways to be less disgusting. If you had a 'shop your closet' like service, but it was how to make you look less disgusting over 50, I think it would be a huge hit! You are so pulled together and polished in an unpretentious way, you could really help a lot of people! What you do is so valuable!

Maybe there's a language barrier here? Asking kindly. Since I'm over 50, I am struggling with the word disgusting, although I wouldn't use it in any context related to our style or looks no matter what age. Having said that, I agree that I would love Alyssa to address this. Though I don't think there's such a thing as dressing for a certain age, I would love if Alyssa would invite her mum back to share her style perspective.

I go to,France for a month every year and take a small carryon …hate to be a spoilsport but I find packing cubes to be a waste ..can do much better without them . Cashmere sweaters are winners….light weight and warm..cream, navy and grey ; always a red sweater to feel dressed up amd only one extra part of pants; a couple,of long sleeve layer tees, one scarf for color, just the boots I wear on the flight. I bring a foldable tote for any gifts etc …that’s it and it’s enough .

To begin with, I hope that you have both a productive and, at the same time, a relaxing couple of weeks. I have found that dressing in only black and white narrows down my choice problems. I do love your idea of having a rack set up days before to add and subtract and hone the choice scenario. I often panic at the last minute and add something I could well have done without. I also find that your sort of carryon that is, in essence, divided in half oddly (I’m sue it has something to do with physics) ends up being roomier than a top loaded bag. I actually was able to test this idea out as I had both types and it is true! I always roll everything in one large pile with bottoms at the, yes, bottom and then jackets or top layers, then tops with the sleeves flipped into the middle. I have tested this method against rolling up/folding exactly the same items and, again! , the first method actually afforded a fair bit of “tucking” space for shoes and such. The only disadvantage is accessing the items you want but it really isn’t such an enormous issue considering the space you achieve plus very few wrinkles! Then the other half is filled with packing cubes (which I adore!) for night attire and underwear, chargers and cords. But I have to say, I dread the whole “process” of travelling the 3hour wait in the airport, the entering and settling and exiting the plane and the getting to the hotel or whatever before you can get down to business. You have to do that 4 times! Gah! However, be that as it may, the “being there” is the point, isn’t it? Do share how your outfits worked for you as I know your viewers will be interested to see how it all worked out. Happy trails!

I always start my packing with my shoeslike you I like to limit the number of shoes I bring a pair of walking shoes, a pair of dressy shoes usually not heels, but still flats and a pair of flip-flops and then I plan my wardrobe around that I find that if I go the other way, I get stuck into a corner I need more shoes I want to take the other tip I have is I like to wear the clothes I wear all the time which is a lot of linen since I live in southern United States, and I just use a silk base layer or wool to make things more climate compatible. Since the base layer doesn’t see the light, I can wear it over and over again without it really getting dirty. I love your video and it was really good to hear that you also struggle with trying to pack and that it’s a real thing trying to get it all sorted in your head.

Great video with lots of good tips! Different countries, climates and activities definitely require some planning. My greatest packing challenge came last year when my husband and I were invited to a wedding in Scotland and decided to extend our trip to 2.5 weeks to do some hiking, scotch-tasting and sightseeing. So, in our little Away carry-on and a small personal bag, I managed to squeeze in kitten heels and two dresses for the wedding (an afternoon church ceremony plus a black-tie reception!), technical hiking clothes, hiking shoes and a small compressible travel backpack , along with normal city clothes and my trusty Blundstones. Of course, as rainy as Scotland can get, we also had to bring our rain gear. It took some real planning and consideration but somehow we packed the perfect combination of clothes to make it all work!

I travel most in shoulder season and it's pretty challenging because I seem to pack for much colder weather. I live in an area that doesn't get more than a few months of warm weather, and is really, really wet most of the rest of the year. So, most of what I have isn't for warm weather. I also LOVE traveling around the American southwest, which is quite warm, so I've been slowly collecting second hand wardrobe items FROM there, so I have clothes to wear in warmer weather. I learned that "summer clothes" sold where I live aren't actually very good for places hotter than 85F when I traveled in Mexico and had NOTHING TO WEAR because all my clothes gave me heat rashes 😮.

Packing is so hard and especially if you’re doing carry ons only which most people seem to be lately. Even harder is packing for the winter months. I wish hotels would pay attention to this trend and incorporate self serve laundry machines into their designs, possibly on each floor, idk. For any trip over a week if you’re trying to maintain a workout regime the laundry becomes an issue. Excited to see your upcoming videos on your trip!

I always find it’s easiest to pack light if I am going on a culturally focused tour (like a European city) in cool or temperate weather (especially if i won’t have access to a gym and won’t be packing workout gear). It’s more of a challenge if it’s hot out (sweat more, so things need to be laundered more often) or if it’s an active trips where I will need active wear for the day and something to wear out to dinner at night. I have been challenging myself recently to come up with more solutions to pack lighter in these situations. Like if I know I plan to spend most of the day at the beach, do I need more than a swimsuit and a cover up dress for daytime? Can I do laundry in the sink and air dry stuff if I don’t have access to a laundry room? Can I stop worrying about repeating outfits and wear the same evening wear a few times? I am still likely to check bags on a plane, but I am no longer the Queen of Overpacking.

I did a big try on this morning and packed my carry on, I have about 12 pieces and I just hope end up liking my choices. I also find that I will probably end up wearing less than what I am taking which is my previous experience, but it depends on the vibe and the weather and what ultimately feels the best in the moment. Kwim?❤

Thank you for all your great hints and tips! I will be travelling to Germany and Switzerland for 10 days next month from Australia and aiming to do it with a cabin case and was wondering are you allowed to bring a handbag/backpack aswell as a carryon? We are flying Emirates 😊

I just went on a 10 day trip, used the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 method and ended up over packing 😅 (In the sense that I didn't wear everything. Ended up just straight up outfit repeating more than I thought I would). Gonna try 333 next time!

Helpful to know what you decided to pack and then to see how it was actually done. Would be interested to know if all the outfits worked out and if you would make the same choices in hindsight or if there were tweaks to be made.

Useful for minimal packing ideas but a laugh for Australia as we are limited to 7-10kg carryon depending on cabin class, no sharp objects such as tweezers and severely limited liquids 100ml each.

Exactly, and once you take out the weight of the bag, it really limits clothing/shoes choices! 😆

International is similar. One carry-on max weight 7kg and one personal item that has to fit under the seat in front of you. No extra handbag or fanny pack unless you can fit them in the personal item. That is the rule with Singapore Air and I think that is pretty standard these days.

Good job however use a dry cleaning plastic bag for anything that you don’t want wrinkled slip your blazer into it (folded in half.) I guarantee you upon unpacking your blazer will not have any wrinkles I also do this with formal wear (gowns) What brand was the fanny pack?

Alyssa, I really loved this and your 333 vid. I love the simplicity, mainly bc I’ve found myself over-complicating packing over the years. Great idea to fill running shoes with your accessories and other stuff. You’re not the first KZfaqr I’ve seen pack your liquid toiletries in a bag that appears larger than a quart size zipper bag. Is that what you’re using, or are the restrictions on liquids easing a bit now? Here in the US, all the airlines seem pretty stringent about it. Thanks for the video and have a safe and fun trip!

It depends on the airport … I’ve gotten through most airports but had to change bags at Stansted into smaller ones …

Going to Portugal for 2 weeks in early May. Very helpful video today….and will be going back to some of your Portugal videos to check out what you wore most often when you were there. Like you mentioned it’s hard when you’re going to do a lot of different things ….metropolitan, beach and hikes. Any hints???

On board European airlines there are strict allowances of just 1 piece of carry on like the little suitcase you have packed and one small purse not heavier than 3 kg. so either the suitcase or the backpack. I once experienced that they measured the weight of my purse which was over 3kg because I carried my camera in it. So this kind of packing does not work out flying with any European airline (especially not on smaller airplanes with limited space on board)

Can you do a video talking about a "makeup uniform" or "cosmetic capsule wardrobe" for traveling. I know this is not a makeup channel however, a lot of women over pack in this area (myself included) and I think a lot of us would benefit from talking about how to curate a look or two that would go with each outfit and can go from day to night. I have watched several of your videos now and I find myself wishing you would talk about this topic. Cosmetics and toiletries in general take up a lot of space and it can be hard to know what to pick and choose for carry on only travel.

Great informative video, Alyssa. However, your bag for liquids in your backpack looked larger than quart-size. I was under the impression that Heathrow Airport is quite strict about the size. This might be true of some other European airports, as well. Please let us know if this was an issue.💕
@AlyssaBeltempo

Ahhh so. I’ve never had an issue until Copenhagen airport. I’ve flown through Heathrow, Montreal, Toronto, Rome, Trapani, Croatia, Greece without issue … but Copenhagen required that it all go in 1 bag to a limit of 1L. Had to leave my Davines products behind 😢

I’m wondering if you have anything like “building a weekly capsule wardrobe” so that I just choose a capsule at the start of each week and wear different permutations for the week! It would help me cut down on laundry too.
