I'm working with him to help him achieve an awesome looking and simple to run Reef Aquarium. We are approaching the build in stages to help achieve and maintain stability as well as help Padawan understand his system inside and out. Today we started Stage 2. This is a potentially zero water change system utilising the Triton Method. Small water changes will take place periodically via a gravel vac to maintain Aquarium cleanliness.
*Here's the plan*
Stage 1: Plan system with the client, pre-select coral that appeals to the client. Plan an Aquascape and flow pattern based on the choice of coral. Shut down the original system. Remove Rock, Sand and Water, replace with new. Clean the system from top to bottom with a white vinegar solution. Restart system with Reef Rock 2.1 from Tropical Marine Centre purchased from Oasis Aquarium Ltd, 1mm Crushed Coral, & Fritz Aquatics - UK RPM Saltwater. Add clients fish back to the system using Fritz Zyme 9. DO NOT turn on lights during the cycle period, move on to stage 2 once the cycle is complete.
Stage 2: Start the addition of lighting. Create a 4-hour profile using the clients chosen lighting (in this case two Focus 1 LED Lights by Focustronic). Add coral based on tanks current status (Low Light). The coral choice for this stage is Frogspawn Euphyllia at the low level of the main Scape. Ricordia mushrooms, on the small island with Clients Toadstool, situated centrally at the top of the island as a focal point.
Stage 3: Adjust lighting to cater for corals with a slightly higher demand. Add Plating Montipora to the far right middle of the main Scape. Add Corals in the region of Hystrix, Pocillopora, stylophora or Digitata to top right of the main Scape (This will be a semi shaded area with par levels of around 150)
Stage 4: Adjust lighting again to cater for higher demand corals. Place various Acropora on overhang section of scape (this area is very bright with par levels capable of 300 and higher) this is also a highly turbulent area due to us planning the flow in Stage 1.
Stage 5: Sit back and watch your creation grow.
The pictures show the tank at an age of 3 weeks. Stage 3 will start at an age of approximately 8-12 weeks. #AaronsAquarium
