You are an outstanding teacher. Love the balance between the big picture and critical specifics. If you don’t already do so, you would be a great martial artist. Paddling and power generation in the Aiki-jujustu curriculums share common threads.

I told him much the same. 😊 The rotation used in paddling are great for body dynamics in some martial arts. Ninpo Taijutsu is one that I’ve trained in.

I think about driving the blade at a 45 degree angle toward the bottom of the ocean. Does that necessarily happen, no but it’s my personal cue for driving and placing my blade at a forward angle to guide each stroke. I do this with both my surfski and my oc1. Great job explaining some of these concepts.

Excellent movement analysis and spot on on all points to the best of my understanding As a ski instructor for 30 years I appreciate the accuracy of the movement descriptions As a ski instructor we also practice learning to get ideas across with fewer words as not all learners learn verbally. If you had to how would you boil this down to the fewest words/images necessary to still be accurate?

One of the major themes of the video is the dangers in "one liner" tips that lead athletes astray. "Push down with the top hand" is technically the fewest words and you would hope your athlete would not arm paddle, collapse the rib cage, bend the spine, continue lower into the stroke during the power phase, pull with the bottom arm, lock their torso, lock their hips, lock their legs.... you can see how the one line went into a paragraph of disclaimers! Then you have that entire kinetic chain structure, top hand position, elbow movement at the point of pressure, power slippage in the arms movement, the top shoulder pathing... You take a major gamble simplifying it too much. Tell, show, do is the easiest way to cover ground in a time effective way. If we could simplify a college course into 1 page instead of a textbook would it hold any merit? This channel would likely be much more popular as short video clips that intentionally omit information, but the goal is to have additional insight that most people do not have access to.... which unfortunately takes more time to convey!

As you press your paddle blade downward are you rotating ? Or do you press your paddle blade downward until it’s fully in the water then using rotation?
@K2NOPS

Yes the rotation is guiding the top hand down toward the water. Rotation moves the paddle and powers it!

What software/app do you use to display speed on your videos please?

Gopro editing app. Turn GPS on while recording with gopro then use "stickers" as an overlay in editing and choose "speedometer."
