Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. No, Rolex released the Cermit as its known (ceramic+Kermit) before the PD-1661 Cermit. I suggested to Pagani Design they should make a Cermit PD-1661 as they already made a black bezel, and Hulk version, so it would be easy to fit the green bezel on the black dial version to make the Cermit. At the time I had just reviewed their Smurf version, and Rolex had released their Cermit; so collectors were hungry in the market for Cermit homages like the Ocean One Cermit; but cheaper. I used the Ocean One Cermit as an example to Pagani Design it was a hot seller for Steinhart; so would also be for them. They agreed and made it. I stated in my Steinhart Ocean One 39 Cermit review; it was ironic Steinhart released it before Rolex; as the Ocean One 39 is a homage to the Submariner Date. In simple terms the Cermit timeline is as follows; Steinhart Ocean One 39 first, Rolex Submariner Date 126610LV second, Pagani Design PD-1661 third. The reason why homages like the Ocean One, and PD-1661 are 39mm, and 40mm; rather than 41mm, is deliberate to avoid Copyright infringement which would result in legal action from Rolex SA Geneva. The 40mm Submariner Supercase has now been discontinued; so they are safe to copy the dimensions. If they copied the 126610's 41mm case with 21mm lug width; they could be sued by Rolex SA Geneva. I explain why Steinhart made the Ocean One in 39mm and 42mm versions rather than 40mm in my Ocean One 39 Cermit review. Check out the link below where Günter Steinhart explains it in an interview with Gnomon. I also suggested to Pagani Design they make a 5517 Milsub homage like my modified PD-1661 without the cyclops magnifier. They have come a long way in a short period of time; constantly improving the quality of their pieces, but keeping the prices low. Seiko really have lost a large share of the low-tier market by increasing prices of the Seiko 5; but not the spec to match. For example; I considered using a 5KX as a base for making a Milsub homage; but it's 200 Euro. This piece is only 68 Euro; with the same grade of Seiko movement; the NH35A is equal to the 4R36 in quality. I think the Steinhart Ocean One 39 is the best watch for under 500 Euro; but if a collector can't afford it; then the PD-1661 is the best alternative for under 100 Euro. However that is easily changed using a Scotchbrite pad. I agree the Kermit is a good compromise between the Hulk and black versions. Check out my State Of The Collection review, where I discuss my modifications to this one. I removed the cyclops magnifier, and also fitted a Milsub ceramic bezel to it. I am just waiting on a set of Milsub sword hands to come from Yobokies to finish it. Regards.

Thank you for watching. Early versions had "Explorer" on the dial. Later versions don't. Pagani Design no longer make the "Explorer" dials, but many AliExpress resellers still use the old pictures. All 2021 watches sold are the later version. However due to the current shortage of NH35A in China; Pagani Design have changed to using the Miyota 8215 movement as an alternative. Again the resellers often still use the old picture of NH35A; and incorrect specification; when the PD-1661's are now using the 8215 in reality. Overall the 2021 PD-1661 quality was higher, but changing from NH35A to 8215 is a negative. The rotor is more noisy, and it doesn't hack. Regards, #WR4K

Speaking of Pagani Design, they released a new version of the GMT homage on Christmas Day which features a Seiko NH35 movement, I think the new bezel colorways they added look interesting too. The only downside is they branded this one "Pagrne Design" (I read that the Pagani carmaker got upset of the fact they are using "Pagani" in their naming). I don't like the PAGRNE versions, nor the bi-coloured dive bezels; they look better when GMT bezels such as Coke, Pepsi, Batman, etc. With regards to the name change; no one knows for certain. Some think it was due to legal action from Pagani Automobili S.p.A. (commonly referred to as Pagani) an Italian manufacturer of sports cars and carbon fiber components. The company was founded in 1992 by the Argentinian Horacio Pagani and is based in San Cesario sul Panaro, near Modena, Italy. Some think it was so they could sell Pagani Design watches on Amazon without any legal claims. Another theory is its simply a reseller having watches made under the PAGRNE brand name by Pagani Design. Benyar, Bersigar, Pagani Design, PAGRNE Design, are all made by the same factory. Bersigar was the brand used to sell on Amazon before PAGRNE. See my Bersigar reviews and you will see they are the same watches as Pagani Design. Regards.

I can't recommend many others, as Submariner homages that are quartz powered tend to be low quality. Automatic homages tend to be more popular due to having a sweeping second hand like a Rolex, rather than the ticking second hand. Ironically Miyota powered quartz pieces like the Duro are more accurate than the Seiko NH35A pieces like this PD-1661; with accuracy of +/-30 secs/month, or +/-1sec/day which is excellent. The other factor is this; often collectors have a negative perspective of quartz pieces; due to the Quartz Crisis of the 1970's having killed off so many Swiss brands. They have the perception mechanical movement pieces are quality, and quartz pieces are poor quality. So brands make what the majority of the market want; automatics rather than quartz powered homages. Another piece I can recommend is the Phoibos PX002C. See link below. That is powered by a very good Swiss Ronda 515 quartz. It is still available on Amazon at a very good price. However the PD-1661 is currently 66 Euro v 445 Euro for the 39 Cermit including Fedex shipping. I have owned both; and as you can see from my State Of The Collection review; currently own a modified PD-1661. The truth is it gives the same feel good factor; for much less expense. The only thing really needed to improve it is a Glidelock clasp. See link below. I have just ordered one for my own PD-1661 as it fits the bracelet. For 12 Euro it is an inexpensive upgrade. So my advice is buy a PD-1661 and this Glidelock; then for only 78 Euro total you have an excellent quality/value piece. As I like to say in my reviews; "a champagne watch for lemonade money". Thank you for watching. Check out my Ocean One 39 Cermit review for reference. This is the best watch for under 100 Euro. The Ocean One 39 is the best watch for under 500 Euro. The Sellita SW200-1 is a better movement than the Seiko NH35A. The build quality of the bracelet is better. The finishing overall to the; case, end links, clasp, crown, bezel, case back, are all done to a higher level. However one has to consider the massive price difference; 68 Euro v 455 Euro. I liked this PD-1661 so much I have added it to my own personal collection and modded it into a 5517 Milsub homage. Regards.

My advice as a Steinhart Ocean One 39 owner: I thoroughly enjoyed my ownership of the black Ocean One 39, however, it wasn't a stress-free experience despite the substantial price. The ceramic bezel was excessively glossy and illegible in some lights, which made it look different than the advertised pictures. Both the dial and bezel was more dark grey than black. Moreover, there was a micro "scratch" on the bezel. But those issues aside, it was a pleasant experience and felt like a dream on the wrist. It should be noted that mine was, I think, from the first production year of the Ocean One 39 (MK1); they have since tweaked the bezel.

There is no difference in quality between Malaysia or Japanese made Seiko movements. The Orient movements are made by Seiko Epson in Japan; however cases for the Kamasu, Mako, Kano, are made in China. Regards.

I like this one so much I have added it to my own personal collection; and modified it into a 5517 Milsub homage. I found out Seiko SKX007 sloped bezel inserts fit the PD-1661 perfectly.
