Brings back memories from long ago, I used to ride Page Mill on a modified Dale Saso track bike that was converted for road use down tube friction gear levers 42/53t rings up front with a 12/25t 7 speed rear end, it was built as a track bike for a different customer who decided not to follow through with the purchase, so I ended up purchasing it as a track bike, several months later after a good crash I decided to convert it to a road bike end game it was quick and fast with lots of toe over lap with the front wheel and it was one hell of a aggressive down hiller, it was like it was always in attack mode, so I'd always say, it's time to attack the down hill. I used to ride this bike over HWY 9 as well. BTW: the chain stays were curved upwards, Dale called it Posi-traction, I guess it worked because it stuck to the ground pretty well. I also rode Page Mill several times on a RIGI, where the seat tube was with 2 straight tubes where the rear wheel would fit in between and it was a rocket one miss que and it's over, it was a totally a different beast from my Saso. One thing I can say for sures this track/roadie bike, one time it got me out of a tight pickle real fast, I got pinched in between two city busses and when I needed to put it into Launch mode! It delivered, Dale Saso, he saw it whole thing going down, because he was sitting in one of the busses, that was totally nuts. I now live in Holland where it's flat and boring where on average the over pass is the high ground over here. Baron C.

Yeah baby NorCal goes full SAFA on local test piece. Niceeeeee. And braking late into the hairpins at 5:45. Phew!

Grew up at the base of this and learned to ride on it. Only later when I grew up, that I realized how lucky I was to have this in my backyard.

Went down this segment today, took the tight corners closer to 17 mph, couldn't imagine bombing down them at 30!

Page Mill Rd. looks like the NorCal equivalent of Glendora Mountain Road (GMR) in SoCal. There is a stretch of 9 mi. (15 km) of uninterrupted downhill with an average gradient of 6% and sections up to 9-10%. After doing the work to climb to the shack it is the absolutely the best descent. As a bonus there are several days where the road is closed to automobile traffic. I like the fact you waited to let the car get ahead, some other riders would pass.

It's similar to GMR. Not as tricky though

This would be a hard climb, if it raced up the other way.

Or a very short flat if going across the road instead of along it 🙂

@@adadinthelifeofacyclist Something tells me that if I was in great shape, and moved there, I wouldn't be able to big ring a 23, like in the flatlands of Illinois, 20 years ago.
