I am so grateful these short little lessons are posted and available. Today, I woke with a migraine and had to cancel an appointment. Hours later, it is still here and not responding well to my medicine, so I came to my cushions to just sit and try to let it pass in the quiet darkness of my room. I tried breathing myself through a guided meditation to acknowledge and smile to the pain knowing it wouldn't last forever, but it was very hard to even think. I found this instead and just shut my eyes and listened. It is so easy to catastrophize the pain. Thinking of that habit as a Second Arrow and relaxing instead has made it at least bearable. Many thanks to Thay, and to the Plum Village sangha for sharing this. 🙏

"I grieved today for the times I have loved so much that I forgot about myself and my own needs. I grieved today for giving so much and forgetting that I should keep a little bit back just for me. I grieved today for getting so caught up in helping others that I overlooked I needed a little help as well. I grieved today for thinking I could just do it all, denying that I also have my limits. And sometimes having limitations is a holy thing. I just wanna love people in a way that makes me feel loved too. I don’t want to forget myself anymore." ~ S.C. Lourie

I Feel so grateful that tonight I watched this,I was once a hungry ghost and when I became well I noticed so much suffering around me, my heart ached daily ,I should say aches because I still feel overwhelmed by the suffering of others and how little I can do ,now I can recognise that by staying healthy and continuing my practice of mindful breathing I am helping the Suffering of others just as a Pine tree does when its full and lush and offers us shade and the birds a safe haven .

I made a calculation about second arrow pain in time scale. If my negative first arrow event lasts for example 15 minutes a day. The mind gets very stuck to these thoughts about situations with very visual scenes. It so that i will think about it all the time when i'm awake, maybe 10 hours = 10*60min=600min And the second arrow always causes me negative emotions when mind brings it up again, again, again... Then if i calculate the time the arrow is causing suffering (Arrows2)/(Arrow1)*100% = (600min/15min)*100% = 4000% !! So the second arrow will take _4 000 %_ more time and negative energy compared to the first arrow! That's insane.

"Self-care is not selfish. One cannot serve from a broken plate." "What do I need now, is a self-care mantra, that answers your needs." "I have a physical body, a mental body, an emotional body, & an external body. Attend to that which needs strengthening. Adding strength to one, adds strength to all." "Our minds, emotions & culture, think we can consume & do anything, anytime... but Mother Nature, & our bodies, say otherwise." "While I can't control everything in life, I can control what I put into my body, and into the body of my life." "Consume with discretion. Create with discretion. Command & collectedness follows." "The quality and balance of our connections to all (food, environment, family, community, work, etc.) determines our health. Reflect on, and adjust to, what's out of balance." "As within, so without: self-care = other-care; self-understanding = other-understandng; self-growth = outer-growth; self-harmony = outer-harmony. Divine & boundless is the journey of the self. Today I learned that TNH went by "Thay" - How sweet. I'm curious to know why the support person had to repeat the question before him answering it.

I understand the concept of not fretting over pain as that compounds it, but HOW do you do that? How do you not look at pain that's debilitating you and ruining your life as anything other than a stressor and an enemy?

Sorry to say, but these videos seem to be remakes because after 2015 Thay wasn't teaching as much after his stroke and then in the later years he moved to Hue Vietnam. Uploads take me a bit aback; I'd rather open his books more often. Thanks Thay for being who You are; an eternal spirit of compassion and righteousness.

I wonder why the question is repeated by an assistant...
@plumvillageapp
@plumvillageapp Жыл бұрын
Dear friend, the sound in the hall is not always easy to pick up, and there is usually live translation into at least 3 languages. Thay has an assistant to repeat the question, with nuance or words clarified to ensure both he and the whole audience have grasped the essence of the question, and any implicit cultural events that may need to be unpacked. Each question is not just words, but a koan, and Thầy listens deeply to the questioner and the audience as the question is repeated for a second time. Hope this helps. With gratitude 🙏
