Thank you so much for your talk! Bells and whistles are going off because you definitely understand and empathize with those of us who suffer from chronic pain. Treatment by physicians who lack empathy and are bias is what so many of us have experienced.

I'm begging any doctors/researchers who might be reading this to do more studies on fibromyalgia. No one TREATS us. It's a back-burner illness and with the overlap in mental health, it's confusing on how to properly treat holistically. Please help!
@philurbaniak1811
@philurbaniak1811 2 жыл бұрын
Fellow fibromyalgia sufferer here 🖐️👍 I experience chronic pain in virtually all of my joints and (pre-diagnosis) I've had one Dr say, in these exact words, "you've got a funny walk, you should get some new shoes", and another who, after I explained that I had been experiencing various mystery pains every single day for a number of years, said "keep an eye on it and come back in a couple of weeks if it's still bothering you". It took just over ten years to get an actual diagnosis and the entire time I felt that seeking treatment was becoming more and more pointless with every attempt. I felt ignored and defeated and even now I feel that pursuing treatment is just as likely to lead nowhere as not. My heart goes out to anyone who suffers with a condition which not only goes unnoticed by others in daily life but is also intentionally dismissed when presented to medical practitioners.
@loristephens83

@@philurbaniak1811 My heart goes out to you, too! I'm just so sick of hearing "Oh just exercise and meditate and you'll feel better." That's not helpful. "Exercise" as I used to know it and as I know it now are completely different. When I try to do what I can, I'm told "hmm... you really should get up to 30 minutes a day at least". It's much more complex than that and most days I can do my daily activities around the house and that's IT. It's so frustrating that there are very few medical professionals out there than understand fibro.

Emergency doctor was like are you stressed or sad and I was like listen this is either a PE or a heart attack !! If it wasn't for me getting really aggressive showing him that I also come with a medical background he didn't take me seriously. 2 hours later all three cardiac enzymes were off chart and ejection fraction was 30 % !! Had I trusted the DOCTOR what would have happened??? HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE LOST THEIR QUALITY/ LIVES BECAUSE OF THIS NONSENSE!

Another example of harmful bias at work 👍 I've heard one friend who has this problem say "well it's supposed to hurt" when asked if she'd thought about seeing a doctor. It's absolutely appalling to me that in England healthcare is literally free and yet people can still consider it a complete waste of time to even consult a doctor. Unfortunately though some of us have proven time and again that this is in fact the case. I mean who's going to ask for help from someone who's already made it abundantly clear that they do not intend to help you?
@DeMafiaGirl
@DeMafiaGirl 2 жыл бұрын
@@philurbaniak1811 This is so true. The UK healthcare system is terrible. The amount of health issues I've had that were completely dismissed by doctors. Chronic backpain? Do some stretches. Anaemia? Take a few tablets. Anxiety? download a (paid) meditation app. Severe menstrual cramps? Here's some birth control. Not once was I screened or checked for any disease or underlying condition. I could have cancer somewhere for all I know that's causing these things but I guess I won't know until it's too late. Not to mention the dentists... oh god... the UK is known for bad teeth for a reason...

I know that more progress has been recently made with the loosening of restrictions of opioid prescriptions which gives doctors the discretion to choose what kind of pain medication is needed, how much and how often. That's the way it should be and was the paradigm in past.

I agree with the doctor but I know many practitioner struggle with the complexities of how real somebody’s pain is in providing scheduled narcotics and running the risk of causing something more severe than what actual pain exist. My doctor did listen to me and I think honestly with good intentions over prescribed and I began to like the medication too much… It was horrible to try to get off off. I agree, pain is real but I also agree withdrawal from narcotic addiction is very real as well
