In this live video, I share the pain I'm experiencing due to rigidity and tension in my arm - mainly my bicep, and elbow area. Here are some quick tips on how to keep stretching. Because if you don't move it - as much as it hurts - you lose it!

Oh gosh, I tried to explain that pain to my PT with no luck! Ankles, hip, thighs, wrists. No one understands. Thank you!❤

I also had terrible pain in my left shoulder even before I was diagnosed with PD. I couldn’t even put on a jacket or shirt by myself without severe pain. I was diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff and prescribed physical therapy, not long after that my tremor started and I was diagnosed with PD. one day the shoulder pain was just gone! Now, 6 years in, the worst pain is in my lower back and neck daily. The minute my pills wear off it starts!! And as soon as they kick in it subsides, just in time for some dystonia in my hands and feet!! PD is painful!! The pain becomes a part of your life. I exercise as soon as I get up in the morning by stretching and then continue throughout the day with a variety of workouts, you have to, other wise the pain can become unbearable.

Thanks for sharing your struggles. I’ve been dealing with my shoulder pain also accompanied by stiff neck pain. I’m in my 5th year since diagnosis and noticing lots of changes/slowness so I’ve been stretching and doing more exercises. Thanks for reminding that exercise is the key to feel better and live better with Parkinson’s.. Take care.

Jessica, keep moving. It has my whole left side but I muscle through. Reminds me of childbirth.

You are absolutely correct. Stretching is essential to combating stiffness and pain in my shoulders back and legs. I have been diagnosed 10 years now. My daily routine consists of stretching , Pilates and core strengthening exercises first thing in the morning. treadmill or outdoor walk/run and then more stretching (to relax my muscles and body) before bedtime. It really has made a difference. Fewer episodes of frozen shoulder and pain.

What you're describing sounds a lot like frozen shoulder. I had this problem shortly after my PD diagnosis, and the pain was excruciating. After several months of PT, the pain subsided. The LSVT Big Exercises helped most of all. I hope you find relief soon.!

I started feeling a little relief when I increased C/L last week and started doing the shoulder pulley stretch multiple times a day. Thanks!

Thanks for the reminder. I actually have one of those contraptions here somewhere 😊. You might consider setting up a link for others to shop and at the same time make a donation to a favorite charity. It may not be much but it will be win-win.

I have to concentrate in taking movement from between my 'wingbones' rather than pulling on my shoulders to raise the arm. I do a lot flat on my back to stretch my whole body and use therabands, on the floor to stretch. It's so nice to have you describe this stuff.

PS I learned so much about movement in Feldenkreis. Free PD Feldenkreis classes at Northwest PD Foundation! We have a movement disorder, not an exercise disorder, and help with movement should be a regular part of our care, covered by insurance, even if we improve. There should be no caps on PT. We don't recover from PD, we just try to get worse, slower.

You're 100% right about the exercise, we need to have a strong regimen when suffering from PD, not just walking or jogging once or twice a week. I'm 4 months into a solid gym routine(4 days a week now) of cardio and strength training and I stretch daily. While I can't say its changed anything with my symptoms it has given me the strength to deal with them! I get out of bed easier in the morning, no longer have to brace myself in the shower to balance, can do almost everything better now with my increased strength, it's great!!

That's what is hard about exercising. While you might not notice it right away helping today, the work you are putting in today is going to help you down the road. Good luck to you!

Start making little circles ... use a tea towel [like your @ a game] and swing it over your head side down low. Also stand in a door jam and walk thru but hook your arms in the jam for a nice stretch; high low and to the sides

Since this post, I have been doing the shoulder pulley all week - and while it's painful, it also feels good. My elbow and shoulder are SO much better than last week. Not 100% by any means, but so much better than last week.

I had exactly the same symptoms in my left arm. I couldn't raise it and it was painfull. I was on LDOPA 2x4 a day. I had DBS and when it was turned on, the pain disappeared like magic. I regained full motion in my arm and stopped the LDOPA . But again everybody is different

I always thought I would be totally open to DBS, but now that it's possibly staring me in the face as something I probably need, I'm nervous. Thanks for your comment!

Sorry you’re in pain. Unfortunately I’ve found that YOPD have more dystonia and general pain associated with “off time”. Best thing we can do is keep up on our meds. Glad to see that you try to move through the pain instead of getting sedentary. That’s what leads to quicker downfall & worse quality for PWPD. 💪💛

One of my first symptoms was rigidity in my left hand followed by curved left arm. I can’t straighten it out and when I work out there’s a strange pain from my elbow to the wrist like I’m flexing, even though I’m not trying to. Sounds similar to yours.

Very hard to explain this kind of pain to people who don’t have PD. I try to explain it’s like working in the yard or working out very hard and waking up the next morning not being able to move your muscles.
