The Pain27 is a keyboard done by jonathansouter and MeltyBurrito, and was done to "make the smallest reasonable keyboard that we could."
All I have done is taken some of their files, and created a fitting case; based on the F62PE / F62. Sound test at the end with Kailh Box Royal's.

Just a bit of a fun build today, by taking it overboard with a board that is unusable. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get the underglow LEDs to work! So that middle section doesn't light up at the moment which is sad, but hopefully I'll sort it out later :(

Pro tip, never use gloves with that kind of drill, you could seriously hurt your hand.

Drill press? Yeh, could get caught, but it was on a low speed, and I was literally taking off acrylic shavings while it was spinning lol.

Reeaaally nice ! Well done DIY. But this purple "Pain" keyboard screams for a Troubled Minds SA keyset. The colorway would complement the purple of the case nicely. Make it happen ;)

There's a woodworking guy on KZfaq with a SawStop tablesaw (for those that don't know, SawStops are engineered to retract the saw blade in a fraction of a second if it makes contact with your skin). He did everything right safety-wise--no gloves, using push sticks, etc. but the wood he was working with got bound up on the blade and the saw pulled the wood away from him. The TINY amount of friction between the push stick and the board, and the loose grip he had on the push stick, was enough to pull him along when the saw grabbed the board. The saw pulled the board, and the push stick, AND his hand all the way to the blade before the nerve impulse traveled from his hand to his brain. Even with the fast reaction of the SawStop he still needed stitches. The point is, even if that drill was only spinning at 600 RPM, that bit has rotated TEN TIMES IN A SECOND. No human can react that fast. Save your fingers and use a long-handled brush to swipe that stuff off the bit.

This project turned out quite aesthetic, even though I doubt that this keyboard will be very useful. But for your own health and safety, *please* stop wearing gloves when working with powertools, especially the router and the drill press. It's a massive risk, getting your finger nicked a bit isn't half as bad as having your hand wrapped around the shaft with multiple fractures and your shoulder dislocated.

New to the channel, really enjoyed this. Small tip when soldering, preheat the pin a little longer, feed the solder and then leave the iron on for a moment so it can flow through properly and boil off a little flux. You might already be doing this, it’s hard to tell because of the speed. I assume you’re using flux impregnated solder. It looks like it’s RohS compliant lead-free? For a cleaner joint you can still paint a little flux on prior to heating, I personally like the pens because they’re neat and you don’t get as much blackening. Not saying there’s anything wrong with your technique, but I think it’s always good to share tips. You’ve inspired me to look into this and make one, so definite sub from me my dude.

Hoo boy, building that keyboard sure seems like a painstaking process! (: Puns aside, I like the way the final product looks. Though, regarding the purple not working quite right with the wood, do you think maybe some sorta reddish varnish on the wood could help with that?
@noleti
@noleti 6 жыл бұрын
really love how it turned out, I was sceptical in between. I agree that the purple doesn't really match the wood color. Darker wood or more staining would be better? The sound is actually pretty nice. Switches look a little bit misaligned. Maybe just using a 40% plate and covering things up with a layer of acrylic would have been easier :)

4:50 watch carefully when he releases pressure immediately after removing the iron. You'll notice the PCB slide up the header. This is how cold solder joints happen. You have to keep things still until the solder cools. Also, to save height, you can slide the plastic off the headers once you solder them to the first PCB... or don't use headers at all and just solder bridge.
