The best unselfish and right to the point review of an experience of an own build I have ever seen. Straight. Without bias. All pro and cons fairly served. More informatic than most of the so called "super duber tech" channels. Thanks! This helped me more than you maybe would expect.

I do llike the sound of the Jades, and with these keycaps they sound even more awesome. However, the was a certain sound of ratalyness of the board it self, I think. This kind of ruined it a little for me a little, more tape! ;)

I agree. Probably the best sounding clickies with SA. I have to say that Navies sound bad with GMK though.

These are the jades, they are much lighter also having the same click bar as the navys. However, I love them:)

Tobias Wegener the jade switches are trash, mine were slow on return and a couple even stayed down often. returned them for navy and theyre way better in all aspect

After many months of planning and freight wait, I've finally recreated this sound in a Melody96. It is beautiful, though quieter than I expected. Sounds spot on when I put my head 5 inches from the keyboard like this mic is at the end of this video.

The final build looks and sounds quite nice. I love that keycap set (it's actually what drew my attention to the video). The keyboard itself seems to have some worrying QA issues though.

Soldering switches before the LEDs has a drawback. I had several LEDs not working after I soldered them, so I needed to replace them. If you solder the switch before the LED you need to unsolder both the switch first before the LED which is double the work. But hey, to each his own, everyone can assemble the keyboard however they like. That's the appeal of making a custom keyboard.

Kailh box jades are the best switch since alps white pine. And even then, I might prefer jade more because they are clean and new. That really lets you know if you will like it or not. If you like really tactile but light switches with a great, but somewhat loud, sound, you will love them.

I built a gh60 lately with BOX white (Jade seemed a bit too much at the moment, but as of now, I think something heaver would be better). Next time I'm building a keyboard - it will be a version with Fkeys row and arrows segment on the right, though I got used to WASD-keys as arrows with a modifier put instead of CapsLock. By the way, if you muffle the bottom of the case with sound isolation layer and put some thick silicone grease on stab frames - the sound will be better.

Personally I think the box switches sound the best in plastic and wood cases, there's something about metal that just stifles the sound in a way I don't personally like. Sweet build video though!

TaeKeyboards oh that sounds exciting. I noticed this with my pale blues versus a friend's, he put his in a lambo case whereas mine was in a plastic tada68, tends from what I've heard to generate a deeper chunkier noise which I dig. Keep up the great work (: love your videos man.

SA Keycaps sound amazing on those switches. I'm getting MT3 keycaps for my BOX Navy switches which I hope are gonna sound as good as this keyboard here.

I do not doubt the BOX Navies are gonna sound good. What I'm wondering here are the MT3 keycaps gonna give the same deeper sound like the SA keycaps give on clicky BOX switches.

Ah, then I missed your point. Hm, of course the material and form plays role. So I am using cherry profile PBT key caps with 0.8 mm and POM caps 1.4 mm , the thicker variant sounds basier. For shure they will sound amazing in this set up. There are some remors that the keycap stem of the box switches has some issues with there quality control, and I indeed broke some of my switch tester keycaps with the box jades. The PBT caps, however seem to have no issue at all, so far. Question, What makes the keyswitches sound the way they do? I have box jades in my black widow chroma with pudding keycaps, and i understand that the sound will obviously vary with the base material of the keyboard AND the switches, but I have previously tried placing the same jades into the GMMK with a metal base and different keycaps but they never sound as amazing as yours do! Do I need to combine a metal frame AND SA keycaps to achieve the godly sound of this keyboard? Thank you for your help!

Hey, I do have a cheap mechanical keyboard called Digital Alliance Meca Master that have removable switches which that sounds great, but considering it came with Outemu Blue of the box. Can it be swapped with this Kailh Jade? Sometimes switches have their own thickness. Maybe try to review it too :D cheers mate

nice build ! your Jade switches sound so good. Is it because of SA keycaps? I have got jade switch from sample pack. It is so loud. I didnt buy KBD661 because switches are upside down which makes this board unusable with GMK keycaps.

I just found this video and was intrigued by the part where you were soldering the switches. would it be a worthwhile idea to unsolder switches off a retail keyboard reuse them for a custom one?

I swapped the switches on a 110 key board with cmx browns for box jades recently, and it was my first time desoldering anything and my second time soldering. Make sure to use a decent iron and desolder pump. As long as your fine spreading out the project accross a few days it's manageable. Definitely don't try to do it in one go.

JustIncognito doubt the effort would be worth it for mx browns. If you're gonna put the time and effort into doing a custom board, go for something special like zealios. (Unless you really love mx brown for some reason, but even then just buy some, switches don't cost that much compared to all the other stuff you need to make a custom board)

CHOPSTIX THIS if you wanna unsolder the whole thing you should get something rare that retail board didn't have. and decent soldering iron is a must you dont want to break your pcb because of soldering iron overheat
