I would like to see a video reviewing shoes for people who overpronate. I am struggling to find a pair of good shoes.

@@mrbrodya95 my humble suggestion, based on my own experience, is - go more barefoot! It can be done all year round (also in Wim Hof style). You can start with only seconds (especially in frozing wintertime), but I guarantee that you are gonna like it and you can't stop! Getting rid of all the possible irregularities, imbalances (incl. over or underpronations) is just a welcome side effect.

This was an excellent comparison of shoes, and I love that you chose the 2 shoe companies whose barefoot shoes I've worn. I started with Vivobarefoot 8 years ago. They were my first intro. to barefoot shoes and that first pair was hands down the best fitting shoe I had ever owned. I literally walked out of the soles 5 years later and still didn't want to give them up. But when I went back to Vivobarefoot to buy another pair, the styles and fit of their shoes had changed so much they didn't fit my small, wide, high-arch foot. I was so disappointed but knew I couldn't wear them. Then I found XERO shoes! They gave me the comfort and feel that I had come to love in barefoot shoes. I now own 4 different styles of XERO shoes -- Prio, Oswego, TerraFlex and the Gracie (garden boot). I love XERO shoes.

I adore my mesa trails. I don't have especially wide or narrow feet and they give me just enough room to fully splay. They're almost worn out after a couple years of reasonably heavy trekking, so I'll be replacing them soon (they've held up really well besides the lugs wearing down). I will say that I regretted removing the insoles however, as now when I put them back in they never stay put and end up shuffling back, leaving my toes to curl over the front of them. In fact, the insoles are generally a bit rubbish; they get flattened before long. I replaced them with some north sole insoles anyway (they are also great).

I love my Xero shoes. Where the Vivobarefoot Primus Trail fell apart for me was how low the step height is and the bulk/weight of them. The Vivo's are betting looking, tho.

I know exactly what you mean, Glenn. Vivo's tend to have great styling but many pairs I've tried have glaring flaws with regard to functionality.

Great review!! I ordered the Primus Trail II FG in 2 sizes to be sure I didn't get it wrong, but have a similar problem. The hard plastic piece on the sides (especially on the pinky side) presses on my pinky and hurts, so I'll be returning them. Maybe the Knit version is more forgiving but I think I might go with Xero and order a pair.

This is an interesting comparison as I own both the Primus Trails and the Mesa Trails. I really wanted to love the Vivo’s as they look so cool and they’re expensive, but it’s the Xero shoes that I really love. The Vivo’s have a very shallow toe box so my toes can’t really move around. I’ve only had my Xero’s for about a month but so far I love them. Other than the looks, I like the Xero’s better in every way. Can’t wait to try the Scramblers.

Appreciate the review. I recently purchased the Xero Speedforce and the shoe is great. It's the first minimalist style shoe I've worn and I definitely feel more grounded when I run, walk and train in the gym. I'm working my way up to buying the Xero trail shoe, but want to get my legs and feet adapted to the changes first before tackling the trails since I enjoy trail running. I've heard that the Altra Pikes Peak is a good transitional trail running shoe instead of going right into the Mesa Trail or Scrambler for running. Your thoughts ?
@painfixprotocol
@painfixprotocol Ай бұрын
Bravo! Give you body the time to adapt. I haven't tried the Pikes Peak and even though the "transitional shoe" concept makes sense. Running is conventional shoes and running in minimalist shoes should really be thought of as two different activities. Being good at one of them doesn't automatically translate to the other. As such, I usually just go minimalist, drop the mileage and speed way down and do lots of foot sensory stimulation work. Patience and consistency pays off BIG in the long run!

I don’t find vivo uncomfortable at all. Nothing you mentioned as deal breaker. Best in terms of quality I’ve used are vibram then vivo. I find whitin and xero are about the same in quality. I ordered 10$ from AliExpress and it, was also on par with xero and whitin. (Probably same factory lol)

Dear Dr. Yoni, I have a very wide feet problem. Most of the shoe moulds being used by shoe manufacturers are being patterned after narrow feet.

I know how you feel, Nancy! My feet are also very wide. One of the main benefits of these "barefoot" style shoes is a much wider toebox - much more comfortable for people with wider feet.

Thanks for the video. What shoes would you suggest for a Mortons neuroma? The Xeros?
@painfixprotocol
@painfixprotocol 9 ай бұрын
For Morton's neuroma my main concern is a wide toe box that allows the foot to spread out and get pressure off the affected area. Both of these shoes would accomplish that. However, the increased flexibility is a big plus as well because it will generate more activation in the foot muscles and build more strength over time which can offer a layer of protection against recurrence.

You say that this is the Vivobarefoot Primus Trail 2 (or just Primus Trail in the title). But from the video you seem to be reviewing the Vivobarefoot Primus Trail 3 (?) All-Weather FG, which as far as I can tell from their photos has many similarities and also some differences. Any chance those rigid sides are different between the breathable and all-weather versions? Can you confirm which one you're actually reviewing?

Primus Trail Knit FG would probably be more comfortable than this version of Primus Trail.
@painfixprotocol
@painfixprotocol 2 ай бұрын
It's possible. However, my concerns with the Primus Trail center mainly around them being so much heavier than the Xeros and the super uncomfortable, rigid lace anchor that Vivo chose. Unfortunately, the knit version has both of those features. I hope they fix those issues with the Primus Trail 4.

Might seem like a stupid question, but do you wear socks with these shoes or not? Can you, like in winter? Size wise, do you buy the same size in these type shoes as you do in regular shoes?
@painfixprotocol
@painfixprotocol 10 ай бұрын
Thanks for asking, Barbara! I typically wear very thin socks or no socks at all but I live in a warmer climate. You can absolutely wear socks with barefoot style shoes. As far as sizing goes, it varies quite a bit from one company to the next and often even one shoe style to the next. Xero shoes has size recommendations for every style the sell that indicate if the shoe tends to run a little big or little small.

@@painfixprotocol @barbaraott2439 I like this question. As I get more into trail running I've been noticing that many socks pull my toes together (even with my narrow feet), with less force than shoes but still noticeable. I'm just going down the path of trying to find good merino wide-toebox socks, or deal with the annoyance of toe socks. Did you notice this? Did you have any success?

I wore Altra for years and used to really them. Unfortunately, Altra has lost their way - most of their new shoes are built with extra foam in the sole which makes it impossible for the feet to sense the ground underneath them.

Appreciate the comment, but I DO NOT recommend these shoes. There is NOT extra room in the toe area for wider feet and I am out almost $20 for shipping charges. Xero Shoes does NOT make it clear that they will charge you both directions for shipping if the shoes don't work out for you. These are cheap shoes that are made in China. Don't waste your time or money!

Thanks for sharing! Sorry your experience wasn't a good one. I agree that for really wide feet, Xeros don't always provide enough room in the toe box. However, I strongly disagree about the shoes being "cheap". I've owned 6 pairs of Xeros and they've all held up incredibly well to use and even abuse. It's important to note, that even with barefoot shoe companies, the width of the shoe and the toebox varies (sometimes greatly) among different models/styles.
