Man I love this. The Detalks are so awesome. I've been pro detailing since 2012 and EVERY word spoken here was spot on. Some of this was info I know from experience (not the paint burning though) but this is a great reminder to self evaluate myself, my techniques, my business, etc. I thank you guys every time I watch these so thank you. Much love.

As I am getting my mobile business together I am barely hanging on to the idea of offering a 2 step. You guys are talking about where my thoughts have been. With a rotary, Intensive Polish, and variety of pads I can do different levels of correction that the big majority of the customers will care about. Spend the extra time on the interior where I think most people want the work done.

Solid talk, and Yvan said those golden words, ‘why are you here’. Good question to ask of customer to get their expectations and same for the shop. I am a hobbyist but doing minimum damage to clearcoat is best business practice. Think of terms of repeat customers and volume, over time you will stay busy and grow the business.

''not every customer is gonnna sit with a scangrip at 6 inches from their paint'' I assume a well known professional detailer here in the Netherlands watched this :P. Because as a hobby detailer for 6 years i did check a car he did which was owned by a friend of my and wow he got scammed. After i showed the remaining defects and damages from the backing plate ( yep ''well known professional detailer'' ), we went to the detailer, showed him everything and refused to take responsibillity for how shit the paint still looked and the damages. Now i am setting up my own detailing shop, and i wish i knew about The Rag Company, Yvan and Detalks before! Great content.

I am having a paint correction done on my 6 month old black 370z, with an Opti-Coat Pro+ ceramic coating applied. I would expect to pay at least $100 per hour for the labor and would be very suspicious if a detailer came in substantially below that. Recognizing the time and effort it takes to develop the kind of skill it takes to do a good job, especially on a more difficult car like my black car, I have no problem at all paying these guys what they're worth. I gave the shop owner the green light to do what it takes to do a good job on my car and so I'm fine with the cost. I think most of us, as customers, are willing to pay the price if we know that the people in the shop are being honest and straightforward with us and are making their best efforts to do a good job.

Sometimes the cars come with even less clear coat, I bought a brand new chevy silverado 2017 a year ago and didn't check the thickness of the paint well a few days later I decided to put a paint coating and before I star getting ready to do some paint correction because even though it was brand new already had a few imperfections I checked the thickness of the paint and in some parts of the hood the reading was as low as 3.8 mils the highest was about 4.6. That is horrible and that is happening with a lot of manufacturers because the want to go the cheap route and save money in the paint and also the clear coat fails a lot faster.

CSI AUTO DETAIL Some GM vehicles have the worst paint these days. It’s amazing at how much they charge for the trucks though.
@williamarden5441
@williamarden5441 5 жыл бұрын
You would think they could put more into their paint, as a lot of the older trucks had severe paint failurr
@joecat8566
@joecat8566 5 жыл бұрын
1 mil = around 25 microns. If the truck was averaging around 4 mils, that's 100 microns which is plenty to work with. The clear coats have much more advanced hardeners and UV protection than they used to. Of those 100 microns, the majority is clear on modern paint systems. That's not to say don't be careful, but 4 mils or 100 microns is by far not a complete red flag, depending upon the service you're trying to perform.

I take it your 1 steps dont involve a tar/iron remover, clay process, full wash process, because if it did it would be more than 1hr a lot more, great videos by the way
@LacroixCruiser
@LacroixCruiser 5 жыл бұрын
MrMully48 that part takes roughly 15 -20 minutes if your work space is set up efficiently. Optimum Power Clean pre-spray, Rinse, Apply FerreX, allow to dwell, agitate, Rinse, Optimum No Rinse(ONR) wash, Clay start polishing, no need to dry.
@MrMully48

No disrespect Yvan, but an average size family saloon can take 15-20 mins to clay, unless theres 2 people doing it, you have to dry the car the car to prevent drips before polishing, i would like to see a video of the process, maybe everyone has a different view as to what a 1 step is.

It takes me 2-3 hours to deep clean wheels and wheel wells wash the car and chemically decontaminate it and then clay it and then remove extra tar spots not been removed by clay and then clean all glass to perfection; then a true one step takes around 5-7 hours extra on a sedan size; and i am full time detailer i dont do more than a car a day
@LacroixCruiser
@LacroixCruiser 5 жыл бұрын
MrMully48 A few changes may help you increase your profits. A clay towel will be much faster than traditional clay. When using the Optimum Synergy to your advantage, you can wash with Optimum No Rinse(ONR) and allow it to dry on the surface, it will leave Polymer spots, not water spots that will not be an issue, especially when polishing with the Hyper Paint Correction System(HPCS).

1 step is only meant to mean the actual polishing step. i.e. 1 step, 2 step, 3 step. a 1 step polish should only take anywhere from 45 minutes to 1:30 hours for the machine to be on the car.

Levi.. I totally understand the customers that have the vehicles where it's not necessary to do hours and hours of paint correction. But you had your guys able to do a one-step in 1 hour?! To me that's a little quick to go around a vehicle one time, I'm going to do a 21 Audi rsq8 which is a rather large SUV not the biggest, and I'm only going to go around it one time with an AIO,... an hour is seriously pushing, that is extremely fast. I think 2 to 3 hours Max sounds a lot more realistic, if the entire car is done properly even the roof because some people don't even touch the roof I know that for a fact, because they think the customer won't even look on the roof. Now, I work with high-end Vehicles so I'm not dealing with outside customers bringing their cars for details in that sense, I'm dealing with customers that's really don't mind the money, and I'm luckily able to sometimes take my time. Maybe if you're on a serious time crunch and you have a lot of cars to try and get done, but what detailer would want to work in an environment like that where you're constantly rushed?? and you can't really do the work you want to do, I wouldn't want to work at a shop like that. But I know some guys do unfortunately. But yes, managing the customer's expectations is important

If you’re spending more than 2 hours on a polishing “step” it’s time to re-evaluate your process. When chasing a certain level of results, it’s often much more efficient to do a compound step first.

@@britishrocklovingyank3491 Yea, a light polish. One step as an industry standard looks to get up around 60% paint correction. A light polish looks to give some gloss and shine. 1. light polish(paint enhancement) 2. One-step 3. Multi-step. At least thats the way we have always offered it.

Fine, you win. Light polish. Our industry's vocabulary is saved. The point of the video is that you take a person with a two-year-old Accord who runs it through the local full-service car wash a couple of times a month and do a one ste...sorry, light polish and it will more than satisfy them.

Clear coat is part of the modern paint system and that system as a whole is referred to as paint. You getting hung up on semantics isn't helpful to anyone.
