When you said detailers come to your shop and spend a weekend getting training...MIND BLOWN!!! I'm starting my own small business and visited the local brick and mortar and got the cold shoulder. I emailed a pretty succesful local mobile guy and got no response. It's the KZfaq guys that actually give me the training and general "time of day" that I imagined would resonate around this community. Thanks fellas! I'll be sure to incorporate this into my business practices.

This is just a topic that many people want to avoid, polishers have more fun. Everything Yvan spoke about was solid hits on staying in business for the long run. Levi was full of life experiences with 20+ years of hands-on plus coming out a detailing family. I am a hobbyist detailer but I do the hourly cost for my employer so I know the drill Yvan laid out, the numbers are crazy. As to factoring Profit, allow to build up the cash for those future days like Levi talked about for seasonal issues and when that machine breaks. Great video that most choosing to do this as a profession need to sit through yearly!

One thing i think should be mentioned for mobile detailers is besides the cost of vehicle itself is the cost and time of vehicle maintenance and insurance on the vehicle too.

He said he has had guys almost cry..the first guy I help save his shop day two I was there he went to his truck and was on the phone I didn’t think anything of it, he got out of his truck and he was crying and he came to me and I thought he had received some bad news on the phone I said is everything ok? He had went to call his wife to tell her that he had only made $3 on his best selling package and was paying others to let him wash their vehicles because he didn’t truly understand his numbers he said I am two months behind on shop rent , all his bills where behind and about to have to shut down this was when I realized no matter how bad I hate to talk in front of people I had to figure out a way to help guys learn their numbers.

Couldn't agree more on everything said in this video. But what do you do when there is loads of other detailers local in my competition charging peanuts. I don't how they do it but if i really calculate all these costs and get my real charge per hour should be, i think i will never make it. Nobody will call me because of how expensive i will be, and how cheap my competitors are.

Hello! Thank you for all of the wonderful advice! I was wondering why as a mobile detailer I would plan to be leaving and home in 8 hours only (ie leave at 9 and be home at 5). Every job you have has a commute. Heck even owning a shop you would have a commute and I don't imagine I would close the shop before 8 hours. Could you please help me understand the reasoning?
