You mentioned an old Deff Dred kit, but this is actually the only plastic sprue to come out since the charming (if extremely fragile) metal kit of the olden days. Nice scheme and definitely "appeeared" more detailed in the thumbnail than the process seems, which is likely equivalent to a table-top birds eye view!

The Ork CP always looked like a fun box to build and paint. So many unique sculpts and different textures you can really stretch your painting skills on. I got my first CP done last month with my Necrons, and its nice to have part of my army completed for a side game. Same thing for this month, once its over Ill have my first Killteam using my Necrons. I havent had the chance to play a CP game yet but hopefully I can get one in soon. Next year, starting in January, I'll be painting up the Votann box set from their army release, along with a unit of bersekz for their CP as well. Probably gonna take me a couple months to complete as Ill need to figure out the paint schemes for each unit, as well as any conversion work and figuring out my basing scheme as well. Im really looking forward to as I will be able to take a break from my year long paint challenge of my Necron Army thats going really well. Only 2 and half months to go and Im aiming for 1.5k more points by the end

Pretty cool look. How long until the oil wash is fully dry? And your primer layer looks thicker than mine, does it stick and lay just fine?

Do you seal the pigment on the bases? I often use pigments but I feel its a god damn mess if its not sealed, but sealing it removes alot of the "dust" effect sometimes. Tips appreciated.

Contrast plaguebearer flesh over a white zenithal highlight. Then on the warboss, some flash gitz yellow mixed with moot green for brushed on highlights around the brows and cheeks and nose.

I don’t know. This looks like a quick way. But from a bit of a distance it looks like a puddle of black with some dark green spots. I grew up with the white dwarf in the 90’s and I like the brighter more toony look with stronger contrasts. I am not collecting Orks myself but I guess I would prefer that old style.

Super cool looking Orks! How do you mix the Oil wash exactly? When first experimenting with these a year ago, I ripped up my paint layers. I could only fix that problem with a coat of varnish before applying the oil wash
@thehammerofwrath
@thehammerofwrath 8 ай бұрын
gonna be honest here and admit that I don't know how I got away with not using a varnish this time! :) It's likely a factor of three things; 1. I let the primer sit for 24 hours before I painted the models. (helps it bond to the surface, apparently) 2. I mixed the wash with less mineral spirits, so it was muddier. (this likely reduced the chance of acrylic paint peel) 3. I wiped the models within 30 minutes, and with a VERY light touch with a makeup sponge. (reducing the surface friction and likelihood of paint removal.)

Could I just use Agrax Earthshade instead of the oil wash? Are there any alternatives?
@thehammerofwrath
@thehammerofwrath 7 ай бұрын
yes and no. An oil wash is useful in this case because it can be wiped away once it is partially dried, GW shades cannot. BUT, the newer formulations of the GW shades are better at pulling away from the high spots and settling in the recess, and NOT staining the entire surface like the old versions did, so you can give it a try by keeping it on the clothes and gear and NOT on the skin. Let me know how it turns out!

Most of the paints are named during the video, but the main ones you'll need for the skin are a white undercoat (any white) and GW contrast: plaguebearer flesh, mixed 1:1 with contrast medium. Have fun! and reach out with any questions!
