Several years ago, just before the Dubliners retired from performing live, i was lucky enough to visit them back stage, when they were performing in llandudno in North Wales. I will never forget how hospitable and friendly they all were, and they willingly signed their autographs. What ever you think about their music, they were real gentlemen, and i am still a big admirer of their Irish Folk Music.

+eejwelshtaff Several year's ago i used to work as a steward in the theatre in Llandudno, and the Dubliners were regular performers there. One year, after the concert had finished, i was allowed back stage to meet them all. They were winding down, sipping cups of tea and just relaxing before heading on their way. I only spent around ten minutes or so with them, but there was a real warmth given off in the room. Would you please sign my cd i asked, they all signed it, and were true gentleman, the kind you would not hesitate in inviting to any gathering. I also met the Stylistics some years ago as well, and they were on par with the Dubliners, charming and professional towards admiring fans.

I just find it incredible how Barney could play so fast yet his left hand looks as if it's not doing that much. And not a single wrong note. A true legend of the banjo. Eamonn had to really bust a gut to keep up with him, which of course he did as always.

i remember a day in bremen, germany, it may've been september 1991. just debarked the ship in wilhelmshaven, after a 3-months-trip off to bahrain, doing the mine-sweeping after the gulf conflict. got a call from a friend of mine, about going to "the glocke" in bremen, to watch a dubliners' concert. after that, we went out for a few scoops, that all ended in peter finch's irish pub in the "schnoor" in bremen...we opened the door, and now guess, who was sitting at the bar? what a great night!!! I'll never forget one of them! those guys made me conscient, that i have irish roots. thank ya, barney, luke, ronnie, eamon, john, séan, ciarán, and patsy

RIP Barney McKenna, a gent, a musician and a bit of a joker, but a true exponent of the banjo. The Dubliners were very under-rated as musicians, but all the band could play, and I mean really play, and all were world class musicians, Barney among them. This man was a fisherman by trade and a musician by nature and the little world around Binn Eadair (Howth) is all the sadder for his passing. Not just for his music, but for his jolly nature, his love of his trade, and that rarest of things, a genuine smile and a wicked sense of humour --

Anyone that down votes this video, is a poor excuse for a human. I came upon the Dubliners late. Found them on KZfaq as it were. I have been enjoying their videos for a couple of years now. However I did not realize that they had all passed away until just today, so my sadness is a bit belated. But that's the power these men have, to touch people from beyond the grave. I join the ranks of people now that will miss them greatly. I only wish I had an opportunity to see them in person. I have watched this video at least 100 times and I keep coming back for more. Lots and lots of people can play a tune on an instrument. But there are few whom when they play, they get deep inside the heart of you. Barneys music does that for me.
