yeah I don't think so. Its the same guys that did the 20 layers of topcoat. Additionally - and this is just me - if there was going to be welding done at my factory (I'm a welder) that was A: interesting B: not the normal job and C: doing something weird with my tools, there isn't a chance in hell that I would let someone else do it. It's still pretty reflective. It's a carbon/clear coat mix, the parts of the clear compound that ends up on the surface are still pretty reflective. I'd suggest to just spray the car with the clear coat(no premixing) then throw the carbon dust all over the car so that it sticks over the clear coat. This way the most external layer will be only carbon, the clear layer will not be visible(it'll only acts as a glue that bonds the carbon to the surface of the car).
@howlingcommandose4 жыл бұрын
My thought as well. They could even use Matt black paint as a base.
@EvenFive4 жыл бұрын
This is how they made the VantaBlack BMW. Only difference is instead of raw carbon it's carbon nanotube fragments.
@shplayshiggty75374 жыл бұрын
@bios47 Putting the carbon into a blender to make it into a finer powder wouldn't hurt either. It is bound to reflect some because of the size of the carbon powder is uneven. The filter is only going to go so small, also your right about the clear I was thinking the same thing while I was watching.
@weareallbeingwatched46024 жыл бұрын
Or thin down some contact adhesive with acetone... that won't be bad for a spray gun! (Or use spray glue designed for flocking).
@Initial_Gopnik4 жыл бұрын
I have a quick experiment for this theory: lightly cover a plate in butter or oil and throw cinnamon at it and look at how it sticks and just imagine having to do that on a car with angles and curves and the vertical sides. No hate but lets be realistic here. That would be extremely difficult to make look decent. The vantablack bmw’s paint had the vantablack directly suspended in the paint for a reason. This paintjob that they did looks good for doing pretty much no prep other than maybe masking and giving the car a wash, imagine how it would look if someone took the time to do it right (sanding, priming and the lot, it was without a doubt done to the bmw).

Well, actually Vantablack is the 3rd blackest paint. Another company created a paint called Black 1.0, that was blacker than Vantablack, because Anish Kapoor charges so much for it. They lowered the price so it almost kills his product, and they absolutely refuse to let anyone associated or related to Anish Kapoor obtain it, and make you sign an affidavit certifying that you aren't affiliated. Then just to piss him off further, they introduced black 2.0, and it's like staring into the event horizon of a black hole. It looks like it is absorbing light.

you need to apply an adhering layer to the car and then apply dry carbon powder so it can have the most complicated surface, this is what allows maximum light absorption.

The trick with carbon black is having the right nano shape of the particulate. Just any old carbon black won’t work. The jetter the carbon black the more yellow the shade. Adding blue pigment causes the color to go lighter and defeat the attempt at getting the darkest black.
