Today I'm painting a sunset on a 20x20" canvas with acrylic paints. I haven't done a large art project in quite a while, so it was really nice to get back into it with my acrylics. I hope this inspires you to paint with me, or do something creative after the video!

A pre-pandemic sunset, when they meant something different. We all had no idea, did we? It's like time travel. You look amazing for having had twins only 2 months ago. I'm glad you could carve out a little time to paint.

I think we all have pictures that we wanted to paint in our pictures folders. Your ambition and ability to play with the paint is inspiring. I often find myself feeling rigid and too afraid to play with the colors or styles. Super cool. Thanks for sharing.

And I love to hear your thoughts on both the inspiration and source, but also the process and the materials you use. I feel like I learn even if I’m not creating myself

This was so inspiring because i have so many paintings that are only half finished because i couldn't get past that awkward stage of feeling like it was gonna fail. So maybe now I'll go back and finish some those paintings although it's also so hard when I'm inspired every day to paint something new.

I'm glad you are getting back into art while taking care of twins. Its so beautiful to see these large paintings. I also love when you do tiny paintings too.

What a transition! Your paintings are typically nature inspired, usually tranquil, and always soothing. This painting is so far left from your style, and I love it. You kept nature your main focus, but what I love is you made the scene shout out, "hey, I'm in here, see me?" Your talent never ceases to surprise me. You don't allow me to ever feel I know what's coming next. BTW, your cars and road are spot on. I hope you do more paintings like this. Fantastic!

Mira, that painting is truly beautiful! I really love it so much. The road looks so inviting! I love how you put the halo of light around the street lights, and the burnt sienna seemed to have warmed the sky so well from behind, that it's easy to imagine that it's bringing the warmth of that day into the painting. God bless you Mira, and all those you love. Enjoy your children while they are little because boy do the ever grow up fast! Oh and from one mother to another, take lots and lots of photos lol! God bless.both of your children, I pray they grow up healthy, happy and strong. Have a great day Mira!

I renovate my compliments for how good of an artist you are, as I see every time you dive into these challenging projects! I know it's not sustainable to create this kind of content consistently every week, but I fully support you for bringing them out here when you feel like😍 I want to add that I've been following you now for about 2 years and I can totally see the growth you've made in your painting, expecially in how your impressionistic experimentation has influenced you into giving character and life.m to those beautiful landscapes. In this one specifically, I love how yiu combined realism in the cars (WHICH YOU ABSOLUTELY NAILED) and inroessionism in the ambience, it creates a cool dualism between urban-natural, subject-ambientation, focus-surrounding! Looking forward for your future artwork! And as I'm here, congratulations on your twins' birth! Best luck and happiness to you and your husband ❤️

You can also mix reference or takeout/omit and modify from reference rather than a direct copy. You could always have cropped out the road and only left I. The tops of trees +sky. Or add in you own imagined fantastical elements. You can take any references with incredibly similar lighting and mash. Or adjust the lighting digitally and make the reference you truly desire first in a program like Procreate, CSP etc. You never have to direct copy just one reference unless it’s a specific art challenge or commission! I think it’s often better to Frankenstein reference or look at multiple to create something new. You can take just the lighting from one ref and subject from 4 others and even look at other artwork as inspiration to help with techniques and style! I draw and paint cars myself but it’s not for everyone. Part of why I depict vehicles is spite, because I remember I was told it was not possible for a little girl like me to do an old car accurately when I was 12. So ever since even if it’s hard now and then I depict cars and have learned how to do so accurately. I’ve even been paid for vehicle commisons by car enthusiasts, bikers and a trucker once. Some car tips 1) lightly rough in the larger shapes very lightly and be ready to erase. 2) find the ground/perspective (even if rough) and make sure all 4 wheels are touching the ground on the same plane level. Far wheels should line up along the ground as should the near ones. This is vital! Like how getting eyes positioned correctly is vital I. Portraits! 3) erase and fix details I’ve and over. Look at the reference see how things line up and actually look at the way it curves and fits in the car and in 3D. Also use negative space shapes to help. 4) look for the areas of large highlights vs large shadows. Then add smaller reflective details. 5) it’s hard so really consider doing practice and studies in sketchbooks (etc) before the final good piece. 6) double check the perspective by making sure things match the ground plane you established. Make sure elements like seats, wheel, windows are correctly aligned to the ground. After establishing the wheels as correct. 7) the easiest angles to depict cars are directly behind and directly above. The. Direct front, direct side then 3/4 front then 3/4 rear. However 3/4 front and 3/4 rear are the most appealing and beautiful ways to depict cars even if it’s the hardest. 8) take photo reference yourself at many angles and focus on more beautiful vehicles you actually like! 9) buy accurate scale model cars (like hot wheels) these are absolutely excellent art reference and can be moved into any angle and you can set the lighting. If it’s easier for you take photos of your car models and work from those; remember you can set up the lighting. For example if you want cars added to a sunset scene literally set up a photoshoot outside at sunset in similar lighting at the angles you desire and use that as reference. Try to only use reference you take yourself or public domain images for the sake of copyright. Note old car and vehicle shows are sometimes in a corner of other events such as county fairs. Take advantage and take reference photos and draw from life in location 10) believe you can and want to do it otherwise it will be too hard. But I did that pencil 1952 ford mercury and showed that stupid man. It took me 40 hours and several tries but I did it! And ever since vehicles have been easier. He had to admit he was wrong apparently I can accurately depict a car! Heck I learned to accurately depict cars before humans lol. Don’t be afraid to use spite as a motivator and to intentionally do art that is hard. You can always try Again and again after all! Or to try that hard reference you can try again later if you ‘fail’!
