For anyone new watching, just a few painting tips. Get an extension pole for the roller frame, it makes all the difference and makes painting easier. You should paint.too to bottom and maintain a wet edge. This will keep paint from looking patchy. If you don't have time to finish a wall at a corner then don't even begin. Pigments settle in paint and if you go back to an unpainted area next to a painted one the color could look off. Constantly stir paint while painting. Don't roll back over a painted area once covered, the roller cover will start to pull paint off the wall. Finally, painting tools should be of the best quality, they can make a $20.00 can of paint look like a $100.00 can of paint. Look at her before and afters, paint it the most dramatic change that can be made for the least amount of money. Look how much satisfaction she has from doing it herself. Well done!

SOMEONE GET HER A TV SHOW... This is so much better then watching a home and garden channel. I love the raw footage. I painted my entire 2500 sq ft home and it was a ton of work! I can't imagine doing a full reno. I also painted all my bathrooms dark and I loved it. Made the white porcelain pop! Also that pink door was kinda growing on me... But it obv needed to be repaired.... Xoxooxoxooxoxoxo

It would actually be better to bring the door outside in the garden and do all the needed work there... Better access, more fresh air and no dirt in the house.

Also if it’s an old house then it’s quite likely that there is lead paint on many of the surfaces. You need to be really careful not to breathe that stuff in.

I love your style and that you are completely renovating this amazing piece of history. I noticed in your Q&A that you said this is your first time really doing something like this. You have picked up a lot of amazing skills and you are doing really well. But I can see some things that while they dont show up on camera well, will be visible in person and may slowly start to bug you. I say this having been in your shoes about 5 years ago doing my first reno. There were things I did not know to do and later on I started noticing them or others did and it just drove me crazy every time I saw them. So please dont take this as a detraction from a lot of the wonderful work you have done. Rather just a way to polish your skills. 1. Take the door off the hinges. I know it seems annoying and like a lot of work now, but you are going to see that door everyday for as long as you own this house. An extra hour or two now is really miniscule in the end. 2. Strip the door. I know you said that it didnt strip well, but there are many different strippers for different paints. Also test for lead in a house this old (tests are $3 at the hardware store and will save you a lot of health issues). Finally even without the tests, get a mask with filters, even when sanding it goes a long way towards protecting you. But you want as much paint off as possible or it will never really look completely smooth with how much the paint has chipped off over the years. 3. I know you lost the woodfiller but its worth the extra trip to get another one, fill it, sand it, fill it, sand it, let it set for a bit and make sure its smooth. Like I said, its extra time now but you literally see this door everyday. Wood filler will hold up better over time and blend/bond better. 4. Gloss paint shows any and every imperfection and rarely goes on smooth with a roller. Get a cheap and easy to manage paint sprayer (I use a critter sprayer, literally a glass mason jar, so few parts so its easy to clean and insanely cheap) and use a little paint thinner so it goes on smoother. Is it more coats? yes, but the finish will be so much cleaner. Not to mention cuts down painting time for pretty much any painting project. Always stir your paint really well before you pour more or use, med-high gloss settles fast and needs to be remixed. The sprayer helps avoid lines from brushes and rollers Bathroom 1. keep a wet paper towel with you while painting, if you drip some paint like you did somewhere you dont want, swipe it really fast. The water will keep the paint from leaving any color pigments behind. Its worth it to not have to repaint the entire window sill because you couldnt get all the color off. 2. Its wonderful that you worked out fitting the floors so well. But next time pull out the toilet (much easier than you think) and put the flooring in around the flange, the toilet will then cover the edges of the floor. It seems like you used silicone to hide the gap but you never want to do that, because silicone traps water under the toilet so if for any reason it leaks water whenever flushed you wont know and it can rot your floors, in this case damaging the concrete. Ideally the toilet is one of the last things you want to install because then the plumbers can account for the height of the floor etc. But I understand you probably didnt have the time to get them in beforehand. 3.Your carpentry skills are great for learning as you go. But consider getting a countersink or pocket jig (both very cheap and easy to use) to hide your screws and nails, fill with wood filler and sand then paint. You can also use trim, quarter round etc to hide little gaps or awkward join spots. It looks so professional, its so cheap and no one will know its to hide your edges. I love your videos and look forward to all the before and afters of this house.

I love that you share the downs as well as the ups in your videos. To be honest when I look at diy videos I am intimidated by how perfect everything turns out for these people and when I have a go it's a dogs dinner! That puts me off trying anything new. So thank you for being honest along the way and documenting it for us because it makes the journey more "human" and relatable. You have done incredibly well!

It is so inspiring to see your house turn into your home. I would love to know how you decide what needs to be replaced and what can be salvaged. The pink door looked to me as something that cannot be salvaged so when you rescued it, I was really eye opening. Also, I am looking to repaint my own kitchen and other DIY's, so if you have any helpful tips on how to use tools interchangeably, it would be really helpful! I liked your comment on the filler, even though it wasnt a wood filler, it still worked. Things like that are helpful.

Hi Hermione!! I genuinely enjoy your videos because you inspire me to always try and create nice little things by myself which I can use for school or to decorate around a bit. It's simply nice to have some handmade things in your house and most of all, in my case at least, in my own little and private space, which is my bedroom, as I think by doing so you personalize your space which ends up becoming more "yours" in a way (hope it makes sense!). Anyway, I really love the way the door turned out! I bet you spent hours and hours working on it! Good job gal! Love from Italy
