The idea of highlighting spider-mans tendons was nothing short of pure genius. Completes the look visually and really provides a grounded insight to how his body is able to handle such forces. Speaking as a biomedical engineer, you engineered Spider-Man superbly.

Me three. It also helps that he doesn't have hair out or any other serious features, it makes it easier for me to play around with whatever pose he does without worrying about extra stuff.

I love how transparent you are with your limitations and strengths. These videos are so inspiring because it shows that you can be an amazing artist and get those big jobs even if you feel that you are flawed in an area of art.

@@JonahLobeDraws As a rookie artist, i have my own philosophy to help with that way of thinking. Even if i cant be like the heroes i admire, there something i can become: my own hero. Just as mr Lee and other Marvel legends inspired me to take on art, i hope to one day pass on that torch to other beginners by inspiring them.

One thing I absolutely loved about Todd McFarlane's Spider-Man art was that he was constantly drawing him in insectile positions that would be almost entirely impossible with regular human anatomy whilst still making it look natural.

This is genuinely incredible work. Your ideas about how the strength of Spider-Man's tendons translate to his ridiculous strength and durability was genuinely genius. Would've loved to see you tackle the organic web-shooters with the placements of the spinnerets in the wrists, but I get that this is more in line with the comics and not the movies.

Hey! I'm a senior in highschool (graduating next month), and I have been considering pursueing art as a career. Spider-Man has always meant so much to me, he was a funny superhero when I was a kid, and a symbol of perseverance now that I'm older. He is also why I draw, and I wanted to let you know that I enjoyed this video and you brought up a good point about needing strong tendons, which I have never thought of. I haven't seen your channel before but will definitely check it out, and once I get a job I hope to buy the anatomy book!

Incredible work!! I love how you try to figure out things that weren't meant to be explained and deliver them so well! So apparently the real strenght of Spider-Man is in his tendons, and that explanation was so perfect and fitting to the character, I can't wait to have this AMAZING book in my hands.... Those Todd Mcfarlane eyes for Spider-Man. Remember the moment Todd drew Spidey back in the late 80s and through the 90s. Everyone started giving Spidey those large eyes for his outfit.

How in the web that I feel enlightened in the dark place of the internet. Man this is cool, i never thought of tendons this way. I always thought of spiderman has a unique mixture of white and red muscle that makes him capable of doing acrobatics on an extreme level. You're so welcome, thanks for the comment. And yeah, tendons draw a straight line from one attachment point to the other, so they're really helpful when it comes to tracking anatomy across different poses.

This is great, however im kinda disapointed we didnt get one of him wall crawling. Thats also antamically interesting. It would be cool to understand how his sticky powers work and why his crawling pose is the most ideal for it, as we know and have seen him do other positions when traversing walls

That book you used in 6:20 was the book that bumped my anatomy skills by 1000%! Strength training anatomy by Frederic Delavier to anyone wondering. Combine that book with human anatomy for the artist by Eliot Goldfinger which I got later and you got everything you need to understand anatomy!

Theres a fantastic book called anatomy trains by Thomas W. Myers that covers fascia, tendons and ligaments and how they impact movement and mechanics really well if anyone is interested.

Great musculature. Keep thinking about how spiderman is a little thicker and his thighs easily go behind his shoulders when swinging. Basically his positions are only hindered by his own body getting in the way.

Apparently Todd McFarlane was the artist who pioneered his whole “limbs flying everywhere” aesthetic and man he was on point!

@@JonahLobeDraws absolutely. It always visually made sense to me for superhuman agility characters like him and nightcrawler. Especially with everyone in their most dramatic poses.

Spider-Man WOULD be good at yoga. I think that's an interesting concept to explore when illustrating or painting Spidey, especially in tandem with that "falling with style" comment. Regarding the red and blue fighting for space on the page, I find that interesting about Spidey's traditional suit, if you consider the delicate blend of power and grace related to his powerset.

The human mind reacts powerfully to both colors. Even though he's small, he's very small and impactful. If Spider-Man's suit was green, we just wouldn't really "feel" the power.

Idk if you had to do Peter Parker but you should have used 2099, Miguel. Organic webs and venomous fangs and i think small retractable claws. Amazing art, i love the tiny bits of detail, every line serves a purpose rather the viewer can recognize it or not

Fun fact Todd McFarlane was the thought behind "Spiderman needs to be in contorted poses" idea. They used to sorta do that before then, but he started the concept of really twisting him up and making him look agile

@@JonahLobeDraws oh yeah, he also changed the suit to have more web design, and the design of the webs he shoots (still to this day) coined the term "spaghetti webbing", and famously created venom, which is why spawns suit functions similar
