You have such expertise as a teacher. You make the student feel capable of painting anything they want. You expose to us names of pigments, the mixes when to make change-ups this is so valuable to us. You keep no secrets in how you accomplish this. This only makes you greater I have painted your roses so many times and each time is like the first. I have been painting in oil for 68 years and acrylic 40 years. I am 78. Can't wait to try this tutorial. I have The Kew Book of Painting Roses. It's such a gorgeous book. I'm obsessed with learning to paint roses this way. Also really enjoy your music. I'm hoping I'll be more successful at painting than I was at learning to play the guitar. Also I think I have a very similar brush to the one you used for the details and shadows. Still getting used to it so this helps a lot.

I visited your website where you have all your music. I noticed you said you’ve been playing guitar since you were 12. So have I, but I am not the sleek composer you are! You are definitely a genius, I have to say. I have come to that conclusion. Just looking at your flowers alone, one comes to that conclusion. But then there is more! There are the city scenes and the ocean scenes! So I find myself in “watercolor first grade,” trying to paint on a “college level.” It seems like I will somehow have to take a crash course on everything in the middle! That is the equivalent of 12 years of non-stop practice. But I am not getting discouraged. I will keep practicing. Right now I’ll use up my cheap paper to practice until my better cotton paper arrives. No, I won’t blame it on the paper. It is the hand that does not know where to go! Thanks for sharing all of your talents with us! I look forward to more instructional videos.

Hi Trevor, I love your work,. just to let you know that I am subscribed just as much for your music as your art. I was once a guitarist until an operation on my spine six years ago damaged many of my nerves leaving me with no feeling in my left arm and hand.I really miss playing my guitar, but at least I can paint with my right hand. I like how you develop the outer form of the florals with the negative darks, carving out the background space. Are you also using Saunders Waterford paper here too? I'm usually using Arches. Will that work?

So beautiful! I just love your technique! I have a long way to go! But thank you for the step by step instruction. Can you do more on how to do buildings behind the figures? I was practicing my hand at figures yesterday and I wanted to put in some buildings but I didn’t know where to start it what tone to use? Gray? Burnt ochre? So I put in a tree instead. But in doing so I obscured one of my figures! I need lots of practice. You make it seem easy.

Trevor, you use watercolor how it was designed to be used, fresh clean brush strokes where each stroke has it's purpose.

What an absolutely beautiful finish painting! Trevor how do you know what colors to mix for your shadows and darks? Does that come from experience? I always thought you had to add black or paynes-grey to get darker tones! How long have you been painting?

Wonderful Trevor - I might try a single rose after my current project and work up from there. I enjoy listening to Smooth Jazz and your music is reminiscent of that genre (look up Peter White for some idea if you're not familiar). and was a lovely accompaniment. What a treat of have three uploads in quick succession - I hope we see a little more in the future however brief they might be.

It seems I’ve been using the wrong kind of paper! I’ve been using a cheap paper and it is one of the cheap papers that is here in this video... XL Canson is the name. So I have to order the good paper this guy recommends. Do you agree with this guy? He recommends Arches, a 140 weight cold press cotton paper. I can’t seem to get the link to copy here.
