Hi Michael thank you so much for this tutorial. The whole painting was stunning. I love it. Painting trees was never my strong point. In fact most are a disaster and I threw them out. But I did keep a few with the hope that I might be able to do something with them and this tutorial is just the tonic I needed. You gave me great inspiration here and please God, I might be able to do something with these screw ups 😅and bring the paintings back to something much better. It's the trunks and branches of the trees more than the foliage really but the trunks can ruin everything when they are not right. Now I know it's the wrong brushes I was using and technique. Thanks to your help I think I'll be able to go back to it and if not do them again and with better knowledge this time with what you've just showed me here. Thank you so much for this. I'm so grateful. God bless you and your work. Susan ❤👍🎨🙏🕊

Are ya sure the piano wasn't in the same room withya? Sounded like it'was right behind you, had a tight space echo about it, quality that be. So good to see you outdoors doing your ever self-unique search for examples and did I 🤣 when spying all the studio wall tape-ups, that's how I've seen you over the years, quite the mess! (& never having enough room!) The same layer logics, bonzer simplistic technique and uncomplicated explanations, but my how you've improved your brushes and detail work, very exciting and boy I'm extremely beholden of your sharing this ever-travel artists endure. I very much remember whilst painting a forest scene for me gramps, I started it, stopped for nearly a year, came back to it and the end result showed quite the difference in mere brain maturing, there were two glaringly different styles, but gramps never said a word, he framed it and proudly displayed it in his foyer where all entering couldn't miss it (including me & my criticizing 👀s). Thanks SirMikey, best yet lesson on trees (& how to LIVE like a real artist 🐒) love ya 🤠

"But what the hell is that?" is my genuine reaction to the most random spot on my almost done painting and me having to go over it multiple times until it actually gets covered 😭. All jokes aside, your paintings are awesome! I do a bit of painting and drawing myself, and I have to say I am very close to your realism aspect! I made a painting of thanos and iron around a year ago, I feel so much pain from not finding your youtube channel until today. Your videos would've helped a lot TvT. Keep up the good work!

Michael, I paint most of my landscapes with acrylics. I do use flow extender, retarder medium and have used glazing techniques in the past. I have painted over 40 plus years but can’t seem to reach a more advanced level in my skills ( my love of Impressionism plus also an OCD to details….). I continue to remain at best, an intermediate skill level. Suggestions? Would your TV channel lessons apply as well to acrylic artists? Your work is stunning and I could lose myself in it.

No medium, only paint. What about the fat over lean principle..? 9:07 Excellent video, thank you!
@RobertJonesWightpaint
@RobertJonesWightpaint 3 ай бұрын
For one thing, he's painting over dried acrylic I think; so fat over lean doesn't apply, though other considerations might (e.g. adhesion: I'd rather use thinned oil than acrylic underpainting, but on a rigid surface, the acrylic applied thinly, I think he's here for the long term!). Plus - there's a point about medium - all medium usually is is extra oil to that which has already been used to mill the paint; or an alkyd; or various thickened ("bodied") oils. He's not speficially painting alla prima here, but the layers added are not built up in such a way that fat over lean is an issue - he's not using oil rich paint and then adding thinned paint on top, which is the problem with lean over fat leading to cracking. Technically, I think Mr Smith's paintings should hold up very well over the years.
