Your understanding of tones and values along with the mixing of them on and off the pallet seems so effortless. And your mastery of facial composition is perfect. And again your soft blending seems so effortless, every stroke throughout the entire painting is done with intent. Watching you, I create this illusion in my head that what you did seems effortlessly obtainable. I am a artist, so I know I’ve created this illusion and far from the truth. A lot time learning with the brush in hand on the canvas is the reality. Im just truly amazed, taken back by your understanding, execution and painterly talent .

@@stellabarbieri5310 it's kind of an insult to call something somebody works years to accomplish a talent. Implying it took no work or effort, and that they were just born with the ability. Skilled, acknowledges the time and effort put into it. Most artists will tell you this. No one comes out of the womb painting the mona lisa. It takes time, effort, and knowledge
@stellabarbieri5310
@stellabarbieri5310 4 жыл бұрын
@@kristall5928 yes i agree! but I'm an artist too and honestly i appreciate either? for me being talent/gifted is more like saying that said person has a deep passion and sensibility for art, which most people dont have. Compliments shouldn't be so overanalyzed. im sure op just wanted to be kind and compliment the artist! there's nothing wrong with that
@kristall5928
@kristall5928 4 жыл бұрын
@@stellabarbieri5310 just because something is meant as a compliment doesn't mean it's neccesarily a good thing to say. Maybe it's because of where and how I grew up but art isn't considered a real skill. Either you're born with it or your not. The time and effort that you put into something is completely erased because everyone thinks you can do it at the snap of a finger. No one wants to pay you for that work and what not because why compensate someone for what they're born with? Yes it can be considered talent when the first time you pick up a pencil you create the mona lisa. But when someone puts years and years into something, it's somewhat disrespectful to just disregard it as a talent. Anyone can learn to be an artist, to interpret pieces, and to care and have passion for what they create. It may come more naturally to some people, but still saying things like talented aren't just disrespectful but also wrong due to the definition of the word Talented. It's to have a natural aptitude or skill for something. And 14 years of practice and such isn't just natural talent

@@LuanaJantz Yes if you wanted different colours, but certainly, you can make a black and white portrait with 10 values. Recently I did an acrylic paint Mural on my downstairs toilette wall, just using blue. I wanted to get in all the values first before I added colour and managed to do this with just dilution of water, the more dilution the lighter the colour. And a tip I realised was, if you use one colour make sure it's a really dark one, because you can get more values in, and surprisingly, very light ones too: obviously the absence of any colour was the lightest, but imagine you started with water and added a drop of dark paint, it would be almost as light as water, but just a shade different. Anyway I liked the wall mural value undercoating so much, that I decided to keep it and not add any more colour. It was a part of reykjavik on the water at night, from a photo.

12:00 That is such a beautiful and delicate pink that it makes my heart hurt! I'm goung through a bit of a time right now, and I'm really happy I found this video. I'm losing my mom to cancer, and she's weeks away from death, if that. She's been sick three years, but just before Christmas they paused treatment because her numbers were great and it looked like she was really stable, but somehow it just rebounded and it was too late. I can't sleep. She's my best friend, and she's in pretty bad pain, and I can't help her, and I can't sleep. For whatever reason, this was really meditative. Just being able to watch and enjoy the bird sounds, see a face emerging from the brush strokes. It's something I'd have sent to her to watch; she loves stuff like this, and was quite good at painting in her day. She made landscaepes where you could just about smell the flowers, hear the wind in the leaves. This is a big long ramble, but I just... this has been helpful for me, and I know people find videos at different points in time and enjoy or dislike them for a ton of reasons, and most never comment aboutit. But it made my day better, and I think I'll be able to sleep a little better, so I thank you, and I'm going to check out other works. It's a privilege to be able to watch talent in action like this.

@@DrWhom As is the knowledge that some colors are difficult or impossible to mix. Try mixing cobalt blue or diox purple or rose madder. It's common to give in particular students a wider pallet. This allows them to focus on techniques and not frustrate them with mixing. As a student gets more experience they can replace colors with mixed versions. For seasoned artists it becomes a matter of preference and nothing more.

@crystaliia 4 жыл бұрын
@@tomoliver2112 That's when we are taking about light, white light contains all wavelengths of visible light (aka colour) while black is the lack of light, thus lack of colours, that's also how our screens work. But in paints and pigments things are in reverse, because what we actually see is the reflection of light, so black needs to be made of a substance that reflects no light, which means that it absorbs all other wavelengths (thus containing all other colours).

@@crystaliia the artist used white and black for value and saturation, red and green are the real colors (hues) playing the role in the piece also, in your view, even if they did use 4 colors, the end portrait is still very pretty!
@crystaliia
@crystaliia 4 жыл бұрын
@@bruh-zn8ju technically we do consider black to be just a change in value, but problem is, when it has such a significant role in the painting, it is considered like an addition of colour. Phantastic. What you can do with 4 colours, and 2 (?) brushes. How long did you work on it in total? 2-3 hours maybe?

4 MONTHS AGO ON YOUR VID "HOW TO MUX DARK SKIN TONES " YOU DEMONSTRATED WITH 4 SET OF COLORS. WOULD YOU SUGGEST TO USE THOSE 2 (GREEN,RED) ALSO AS DIFFERENT COMBO? IS THERE A WRONG OR RIGHT IN THAT? THANKS FOR SHARING! 🌺🌻
@CesarCordova
@CesarCordova 4 жыл бұрын
This are only different ways you can try, there is no wrong or right, for natural skin tones what you need is an orange, it can be Cadmium Orange Hue, Burtn Sienna or a mix of yellow and red (or in this case light green and red also mixes an orange). Then just add to that orange the colors your model needs, it can be more red, more violet, more brown, etc.

I may be wrong, but I'm relatively certain that the focus of this video is to demonstrate that you don't need to have 50 different flesh tones to create an amazing portrait. The eye colour is irrelevant essentially if my hypothesis is correct. There is, as I previously noted, the possibility that I'm totally wrong. It's been known to happen from time to time. Lmao.

I made the previous comment before I had finished watching the video. Technically it was done only using 2 colours with black and white. The eyes were rendered hazel and it looked fine. He could have left it at that but decided after the fact to make them blue to contrast more.

@@powertothebauer296 No, they actually aren't colors in the traditional sense. White is the presence of all colors and black is the absence of color. They are used with colors to create value and for tints (white), tones (gray) and shades (black). Another way to look at it is like this: There are 3 primary colors that cannot be made by mixing other colors and those primary colors are what all other colors are mixed from. Therefore, if black and white are colors and red, blue and yellow are the primaries, what combination of those 3 colors would you mix to make black or white? I'm not trying to be argumentative or act like a dick; I'm just trying to educate you on some color theory. I thought the exact same thing as you until I learned otherwise.
