I need advice in terms of what to do regarding removing the textured wallpaper, the walls behinds the paper are grey like in the video and a little porous would it be possible to fill cracks and sand and then mist coat the walls ? Would the pours still show?

Good tip Old School Decorator taught me Mix watery thin Paste Use to soak wallpaper to strip Paste will stay moist longer than just water (I like to add Fairy Liquid to the Watery Paste also ) Tool I always end up using is T Shape Wallpaper Stripper .Sharp edge try get it behind . Steam Stripper is my last resort Only use if all else fails

Use a garden pressure sprayer and perforator and a Olaf scraper blade type much easier

I have the ultimate weapon to remove even the most stubborn wallpaper. In over forty years of DIY decorating, it's never failed. It can sometimes seem overly aggressive, harsh and even violent, but it always works. It's called The Wife. Warning: only use this weapon for removal of wallpaper. Never attempt to use it for hanging wallpaper or painting - it just doesn't work.

My whole house is this bloody stuff. Just took it off with a scraper as its so old it's come away from the walls. Behind was multicoloured discoloured plaster. Black. Brown. Black mould in some places. Crumbling in others and hairline cracks. Next stage I was going to wash the walls, sand them fill the cracks sand again and paint anti mould on then primer then my final colour. Any advice tips or suggestions from anyone much appreciated.

We have plenty of videos on how to prepare a bad surface. Usually the best way, is to fill and sand best you can. Then lining paper 1200 grade, emulsion or paper on top. Thanks

Decorator of 25 yrs , when I strip top layer of old painted anaglypta I use a 2 inch filling knife , works way way better than a rigid scraper . Give it a try u will be surprised !

Could you explain the rationale behind only ever using half of the scraper blade (or less) please?
@spencercolgan3 жыл бұрын
He needs to angle the blade in order to penetrate the bond of the paper material and the emulsion. If he doesn’t lift the blade on one of its edges, he cannot effectively penetrate the tough paper which is painted over, aggressively. Lifting the blade gives him the benefit of a pointed edge with which he can cut into and tear the material while then being able to use the same tool to get under and lift what he was able to penetrate with the tool by lifting it.

Come on man, you have got to try other methods. Use a perforation tool and saturate the paper with Zinsser DIF from a garden pressure sprayer. The DIF kills the adhesive and the paper comes off easy 👌

@@mungojack have come across paper like this before.. the surface is like Iron really hard to cut into... to allow anything to soak in.. but the front will come off easy enough.. even steam stripper would struggle with the layers of paint.. I've stripped too many papers and know whats best at the end of the day.
