Brilliant as usual - and such neat and tidy work too! I'm going to be fixing a hairline crack in my ceiling soon so I'm going to follow you're example and open the crack up to take the filler. There seem to be so many fillers on the market- powder, pre-mixed, fine surface, deep crack, quick drying, big brands, own brands that it's a bit of a nightmare choosing the correct one. I'll probably buy a tube of one of the big brand pre mixed fillers unless you recommend something else? Keep up the great work and really useful videos!!

Thanks... ready mixed can be handy but if you have a lot to do then mix your own..

Nice tidy thorough work! Another additional precaution would be to use cornice adhesive(plaster with an adhesive in it), push it in behind the cornice/moulding before pinning it back. I also screw up through the cornice into the ceiling joists, and can do the same for the walls if it’s a timber frame house, a bit more effort on brick. The foam is a nice easy way thought to fill and hold everything together.

Interesting video. I am plagued with the coving cracking away from the wall in my bedroom. The wall was originally the outer wall (brick) of part of an extension and became the inner wall of our bedroom so was plastered over. Periodically the bottom edge of the coving has gaps in the bedroom but not the other side of the wall. Amy clues as to why this should happen as it's a real pain to have to keep filling in, especially over the wardrobe (not good for an 82 year old)
@PaintingandDecorating

Sounds like one side is not fitted correct maybe not enough adhesive. Follow the video and it will be fine.. thanks

@@PaintingandDecorating Thanks for the reply. Making attempt to fix the issue but having trouble getting adhesive inside the gap most seems on the outside like a seal. From your experience which is the best adhesive filler to use? I assume the expanding form is used to improve the adhesion, not seen that done before.

Thanks. I appreciate your attention to detail. Learning DIY in a new home, so trying to genuinely understand. Anyone- pls help. Why doesn't the gap filler that's added into those holes you've created not pushing the coves out more? Am I also mistaken in thinking a gap filler is not 'glue'- so why would it strengthen the bond between the wall and cove? Thank you
@PaintingandDecorating

Only the required amount of foam and it does act like glue. Multipurpose.. thanks

I would have used caulk on the bigger cracks, fine surface filler on hairline cracks. And the adhesive foam of course to stick the coving back on.

I’m just re-wiring my house and doing a lot of work on it. The coving in my house isn’t the prettiest. Would you ever recommend changing coving to a new one rather than repairing? I’m trying to work out if I should be trying to fix it or change it all. Thank you
@PaintingandDecorating
@PaintingandDecorating 4 ай бұрын
That really depends how rough it looks. Replacing like for like won't really change the look, unless it's badly fitted. Thanks

No need at this point as Jo paint has been applied yet. Hard stop is usually only used after the first coat of paint for fine filling. Thanks
