Great video , never seen theis method but looks well, its also an idea to fire a few black drywall scews in the top and bottom edge then fill over .

Good tip you show us pushing the first pass of filler into the hole with your finger and refilling it flush.

Hi mate what would you advise on heavy thick cornice has cracked top and bottom and if i start raking it it will come down! Would expanding foam do to hold it? It’s very heavy stuff
@PaintingandDecorating3 жыл бұрын
Difficult to say but foam will hold it. You can make small holes to stabilise it then do your main work.. thanks
@iancrampsie45413 жыл бұрын
Pop a few pins in it then use the expanding foam, as long as the heads are slightly sunken it's fine!

some off mine is dropping from ceiling line like it needs pushing back up first maybe support it with some masonary nails on the bottom line and try and push it back up ? did think about screws and plugs but this is mutch better idea?
@PaintingandDecorating4 жыл бұрын
If it's that lose you are better putting in some fixings while it drys.
@richardmcdougall2332 жыл бұрын
The new type screws that don't need plugs could be worth a try. Need to get the screwhead under the face of the coving

Mate. Does the foam stick the cornice to the wall and ceiling plaster? Is it any particular type of foam?
@PaintingandDecorating Жыл бұрын
Yes it will and it's gap filling foam. Thanks
@twobins20605 жыл бұрын
Another great idea - but you should really invest in a good foam gun. Makes using foam so much easier.
@PaintingandDecorating5 жыл бұрын
Will defo get a gun at some point.

What did you use to fill in the bottom of the cornice to the wall . A silicon gap filler or something else
@PaintingandDecorating5 жыл бұрын
Once you have used the foam there is no more movement.... so you can use powder filler.

This is the problem with KZfaq now. I can't tell the reliability of the advice. You cannot see the like to dislike ratio. This video has 139 likes, and uploaded 4 years ago. Is it just not a popular video, but still has a good like/dislike ratio; or does it have very minimal likes and incredible amounts of dislikes?

Had a bad experience with foam on Friday, used it hundreds of times and never had this happen...it blew back out of the hole at crazy force even though i wasn't pressing that hard. It went all over my face and just missed my eye, had to dash downstairs and wash with white spirit, but was close to a hospital visit. I would advise using goggles when using this shit, I will be using goggles in future as it was a totally random and out of nowhere occurence.
@PaintingandDecorating5 жыл бұрын
Yes you do have to be careful.

If you see coving it's generally a good indication that the wall was pretty fucked up the top and some dodgy bastard put it up there to cover it rather than sort wall out:) I mean lets face it there's no other reason to put that crap up there it looks awful and serves no purpose. Pulled a few of these off and the wall always seems to be in bits underneath. If you're a first time house buyer and you see this up I would give it a wide birth ;)

I like the look of coving, we have rooms with and rooms without, the rooms with coving look better finished off.
@stayspicy94565 жыл бұрын
Mate why are you still using that foam? Buy a proper gun and you save so much foam as you only use what you need to and close it off till next time
