i painted busses for a couple years and in that time i painted a few custom jobs that took a week to get all of the art work on the bus so at the end of every night i would bury the color under three heavy coats of ppg dbc 500 colorless basecoat just so i had confidence that no one would touch the color while i was catching up on my rest and one thing better is in the end its easy to bury heavy lines if you use this product every day for as long as it takes to finish your multi colored art or stripes i also would da with 800 on a hard pad just to knock the hard edges down every morning

I’m usually a critic on a lot of KZfaq videos cause people just do some terrible stuff, but this is genuinely a great job. I’m personally not a fan of cutting in and putting on the car I’d rather paint it all apart for no tape lines etc, but all in all this is a great job and a great video an content keep up the good work!

yeah the matte silver look is nice. looks like aluminum of something. I think the best way to achieve that is to have a nice smooth, polished paint job, then do a matte silver vinyl wrap. Matte paint will look terrible after it takes any wear.

In trade school I put reducer in the clear instead of hardener my instructor took straight hardener and hammered over the top of it and it did set up lol it died back hard and we gave it a couple days and cut it down and buffed it and it looked fine lol I would hate to see what it looks like today I guess it’s good I learned that lesson in school instead of on the job😂 sometimes I think I’ve made every painting mistake possible and then another one comes along

Can you do a video about job opportunities and a career in automotive paint. I’m still a beginner painter, but I think my jobs and colors come out clean and I put pride in my work. Only sprayed one paint line at one shop for roughly 3 years. And at this point I feel like I’m being taken advantage pay wise. But don’t know what else is out there

Looks great. Thank you for the content brother. 🙏. I am learning quite a few things. I love a silver car. Especially when there is black to break up too much silver. Plain Jane silver is just boring. But I like it toned down with black. Black grill, black rims, black accents on the mirrors. Maybe even a black pinstripe. Maybe. Lol. Thank you for showing the silver. I have a 03' Crown Vic Police Interceptor I am thinking about silver with black mirrors, rims and black straps on the lower sides similar to the mustangs but not the same. I was also thinking about skin black on the center portion of the hood. In 84' or 85' the mustang gt came with the satin black on the center portion of the hood but it was a sticker type. I would rather have paint. Lol. Thanx again brother.

I noticed that you don't put much paint on the lips of the wheel wells, or the front and rear edges of the fenders. Is there a reason for that or does the paint just get to those areas. Great job, and you guys are helping me learn a lot of things that I have questioned when I have painted in the past. Self learned, and "shooting from the hip" techniques!

Hey there! Love your vids! I use ppg paint at my shop, and have never heard of a clear base before. I wanted to ask you if using ppg color blender (dbc500) would be the same or similar as the clear base in between coats to have a constant wet bed? I have always sprayed sealer first, tacked and then layed on blender but it seems I should lay the blender down first? Also should I spray blender between each coat of base and after I finish? Seems that there are so many ways to do it, and honestly wish I could just sit and chat and pick your brain lol. In this vid I noticed that the base coat wasn't reduced out to make it more transparent. Sorry for the long rant haha. Take care!

Great video, just want to clarify a point. With metallic paints.; use a faster reducer than normal. I thought the slower the better? I'm prepping a car right now and gonna shoot a light blue metallic / pearl over a pure white basecoat. I only want to do this project once. Your advice has severed me well in the past and I proudly wear your merch. I really appreciate you featuring other great painters. That association and mutual respect is great to see.

Every video I see no one really messes with those parts of the car. It might be the fact that they aren't changing the original color of the car. But my friend wants to change the color, what do you recommend?

It's a bumper stand. They tilt up and down and the arms twist around to whatever you need. They make pretty cheep kits that come with arms and a center bar that clamp on to a regular folding stand.

Hey Brian. Current working on painting my front bumper. Silver metallic. Stripped all paint and prepped for primer using 400 and a maroon scuff pad. After I laid my primer (SEM flexible primer surfacer) I sprayed some SEM guide coat before I began sanding with 800. As I was sanding a ton of black speckles remained on the primer and would not be removed until I went super deep into the primer leaving a super thin layer. Any idea what could cause this? I ended up stripping all the primer because I didn’t want the paint lifting later due to the speckles. Thanks!

You should sand the primer with 400 and basically sand it until all of the orange peal is gone.. you will break through the primer in places but it will be fine

Wet bed goes on between coats of base to help absorb the dry overspray when applying base coat. It makes the job much cleaner and helps blend panels.
