For HCers, I’d added some footnotes to some of what he’s saying. 60 official HC pally here. Ran aoe build but found 10/10/31 ret build better for the majority of my HC run personally. TLDR: while speedrunners care a lot about recovery time, in HC you care a lot about time it takes to end combat. Ending combat has a host of benefits in HC: let’s you get off bandages with no interrupts , let’s you focus your attention mob pathing to avoid danger, reduces the number of times a dangerous mob ability can go off, let’s you move in the environment without aggro more freely & the Light forbid get a hearth out if you’re cornered. Probably some more positives im not thinking of at the moment -improved might (tldr: skip it, benediction is better. but don’t be afraid to use regular Might if the HC situation calls for it. There may be times where recovery times matter less than the DPS increase to guarantee a kill & end combat. Still give your dps melee Salvation though) -pursuit of justice: an OP survival tool in HC (if you need to escape a leashed mob mounted or unmounted. Also most of wow is traveling at low levels so you can subtract

@@Docjakel If you're HC I'd do 11/10/31 if u wanna do all roles. Do whatever you think feels better for you though! how anything pans out really depends on gear drop RNG to a certain factor unless you follow a wrap progression guide like I did for guaranteed weaps. I think I was 11holy 10 prot then went ret from there to SoC. Somewhere around early/mid 40s respecced to 11/21 aoe pally when I could get consecration and blessing of sanctuary. I yoinked some intell star gear from the ah, whatever plate I could scoop up and a knightly longsword. I did that for a few levels and decided it didn't fit the hardcore questing I was doing. I respeced a 2nd time but dropped the redoubt points and precision and consecration in favor of going deep into ret. So my build at 50 was 10/0/31. I think if I had to change anything I wouldve stuck with the 11/10/(then go all ret) build I had going. at 33 I wouldve continued that build, but picked up a knightly longsword and tried a mix of aoe pally and single target sword and board if my gear could support that playstyle with enough intell/stam and armor. id switch up sword and board and 2h depending on what drops I could get from dungeons & quests but prioritize 2h if poss. If I got a higher ilvl slow wrap to drop id put a point into SoC early otherwise just keep filling out ret. At about 50, no one wants a pally tank in Maraudon and mob pathing gets really tight in some places, making aoe a lil sketchier. Depending on gear drops, I would respec one time and go 10/0/31 (unless you really really wanna run mara and ZF over and over. I did not bc the only prebis items from there were a ring for ret from princess, and then not sure if bis but a mana on hit one hander and pally shield from late mara bosses) I found I could cleanse most of the slows or roots that a imp freedom freed me from, I rarely used shield so it was never on cd and always ready. My hit chance was relatively high during my HC run bc human racial + normally in HC you try to slightly outlevel the content you're doing if possible for safety while you can. So precision didn't seem like the godly talent everyone made it out to be and I was barely using redoubt at this point. Most of the PVE melee in the questing world seemed to hit very quickly so imp ret aura did good work even in single target; devo only seems to make sense on really slow hitting melee mobs even in 1v1 scenarios. TLDR: I think 11/10/31 is the way for HC pallies from personal experience if u want the option of tanking. If you wanna aoe farm/grind in HC I recommend playing a mage. If you don't want to tank go 10 holy then go ret. Or just do whatever u like and have fun!

@@GblankSblank-uj1iyaoe grinding/ tanking dungeons is very efficient for paladin if speccd right. No need to recommend a mage. Paladin is very safe if geared right and specced right. Not to mention a good paladin tank is better than a warrior tank, even in HC for dungeons.

For Hard Core no. Otherwise its fine. You REALLY want healing in combat from Holy Tree or you are taking a risk. Ret tell 41 is non-HC advice and its "ok" if not outright "good". HAVE FUN > anything on non HC

@@pallytime2156 cool! Yeah I play on a very crowded PvP server with a lot of horde and feel like ret in general can win the fights a bit faster and run away before the other hordes join the party. But I will definitely skill prot as soon as I hit 41. I did that back in vanilla as well and it’s such a great spec for leveling but also for PvP, especially against melees.

Why is rank 1 consecration preferred while leveling? I did it quite understand that part
@pallytime2156
@pallytime2156 10 ай бұрын
All ranks of consecration have almost the same +damage from bonus spell power. So its wise to check when you are judging crusader for its +X spell power which of your consecration ranks is the most cost effective. It will be either rank 1 or rank 2

The damage reduced by Blessing of Sanctuary is factored in before mitigation is applied. Go stockade mobs hit you 20 use BoS mobs hit 19 so its only bonus dps

Hey i got a quick question about something i noticed about redoubt/reckoning the other day. Me and my girlfriend just started playing wow together a couple of months ago. She have never played wow before, so she tried a couple of classes before deciding on a protection paladin. I have always played protection paladin myself, so i decided to go for retribution str/stam build just to try it out (This is actually my first time ever playing 2h paladin with seal of command, not kidding). Anyway, we are now in the 40s and she started to get a few points into reckoning, and I thought its time I demonstrate how she could manually /sit proc crits on herself for reckoning, and how redoubt procs at the same time. But then i noticed that redoubt only procs by getting naturally crit, it does NOT proc when being crit while doing the /sit method. She being new and all i didn't want to waste her time trying to explain something i could not get to work, so i just told her we'll look into it a later time. Is this something that have changed on the new era client? I haven't gotten around testing it myself since I'm not in the right spec at the moment. I even made a short guide back in the day on how to do it, but it does not seem to work the same way anymore. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iZNje9Cdx9yWZXk.html

They nerfed sit/crit years go but I have heard rumors and seen vids as recent as 6 months ago that if you sit + MOVE (like strafe) right as your getting hit that it still works. All in all its generally considered not worth it as its not a fair bit harder to do. I have a Reckoning Guide if want to check that out. But the TLDR of it is "NEVER activate autoattack on ANYTHING you are not in melee range off" and your good. So we paladins spend 90% of the time running around in pvp with auot-attack deactivated.
@prm66
@prm66 10 ай бұрын
I believe it was changed in classic indeed, i heard there was a nerf attempt but that you can still do it if you sit just at the right time. I haven't tried this myself yet because i have not played paladin in years before now, and I'm not yet at reckoning in my build; but supposedly if you are in the correct part of the animation of sitting down when getting hit, it will proc reckoning. But again have not tested myself yet. Wish you both all the luck

I used to do it very consistently on classic in 2019/2020 as you can see in the video i linked. I even have a small kill speed comparison video that takes into account the few times i failed that you can watch here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hcWChaWWttaYZH0.html The issue i had now was not really getting crit, i managed to get several crits on me in a row. The poblem is that redoubt and reckoning didn't proc from those crits.
@simonsolheim158
@simonsolheim158 10 ай бұрын
@@prm66 Yeah you are right, they made it a little bit different. But that didn't really change that much as i was still able to get crit about 80% of the times i tried. And the issue now is not really getting crit, i can still do that fairly consistently. The problem is that redoubt and/or reckoning don't proc from those crits for some reason...

keep in mind, while r3 FoL at lvl 40 is more efficient, holy light rank 4 with BoL up has more HPS. 205 hps versus 326. And at lvl40 you get rank 6, so you can do alot of healing quickly (500+ hps). But holy light in a sustained fight is much less sustainable, that 326 is only going to give you 40s of healing versus 109s of r3 FoL.

Use a mix of stam/int and stam/sprit gear. If you can't use the AH... then use Leather or Mail gear... just have your shield armor decently up to date. if you char had 100 armor from ALL your gear... your shield would give +60 Armor soo...

These guides have caused a lot of confusion for me. Granted, I have only played paladin this path month in HC and then mage 2 months before in Classic. This, combined with other things I have read in forums, wow head, releated sites and just asking people in game have made things a bit of a blur. I see a lot of people in game telling me that just going str/stam focus is the optimal path when leveling just for raw damang and to take hits using seal of command. I also never see any guides mentioning that with Seal of Command, it can proc on hit damage like Fiery War Axe, Acherus sword from Darkshire and enchants like Fiery. I've also had a ton of people say that Str is bad compared to agility. That is the part that has confused me, because they either don't elaborate more or just say it's because you get dodge and then crits. THEN, i've been told that all these other builds are trash and you should focus Int/Stam and spell power gear to make Righteousness and Judgement your main source of DPS since, according to them, it out damages just autos. I'm gonna keep going with my current build of Vengeance/Seal of command with divine intellect, spiritual focus and then going in prot for tankiness and just stick to safely pulling one mob at a time lol

Same boat as you. After personal testing tho, I wouldn't swap to the int/stam aoe farmer till like lvl 41+. It is super tanky and whatever early, but gearing it is a pain in the ass, and without shield spikes and blessing of sanctuary you're not pulling 4-5 mobs like pallytime said, hell at lvl 30 i wouldn't even pull 3 unless I over level them. If I were you I would do as you say, stick to what you're familiar with until you have juicy gear
@ExiledxRanger

I was thinking the same. I'm also not comfortable doing large AoE pulls, with how things are with the server and hyper spawns. See too many deaths where people get cocky and do large pulls and die.
@Mezer_PoE
@Mezer_PoE 10 ай бұрын
@Igelme that's the thing, you're supposed to over level to be optimal when leveling. Fighting things at level isn't ideal until 41 and even then you'll farm the same mobs till they are 4 5 levels below you then move to other mobs that are 2 below and continue again

this is really why paladin in classic is interesting. You can build them in so many different ways. Knowing how top optimize your actual playstyle is going to help you a lot in your journey. If you're speccing deep into Ret for instance, you wanna get your typical physical stats up, Strength > Agility > Stamina. Prioritize slow weapons and just keep using Seal of Command. You can play a holy spec utilizing MP5 for to reduce downtime between pulls (this is actually the fastest way to level solo), speccing into Holy for Improved Blessing of Wisdom since Might is ass anyway. Get a free heal every 2 min and just keep pulling. At 40 you can start playing around with Protection, but i really wouldn't recommend it unless you really want to try. Prot is more risky, relying on Reflect damage, you wanna stack Stamina then Spell power then Strength/Int. You wanna block and heal with Seal+Judge Light as much as possible. Get a shield like Skullflame Shield / Force Reactive Disk / Drillborers Disk, use Oil of Immolation and explosives (engineering is super bis) to lower your kill times. This is really fun when you get it to work though. With decent gear you can pull and boost Stockades in just 3 pulls for a solid income
