I completely agree with your Mom's perspective. While tourism is generally beneficial, the excessive influx of tourists presents certain drawbacks. One of these is the issue of litter and garbage being left behind in Palawan. Previously known as the "Last Frontier" of the Philippines, Palawan has lost this title as it has become a popular destination for both foreign tourists and locals alike. I hope that the local authorities in Palawan acknowledge these negative consequences, as they have the potential to tarnish the island's natural beauty. My desire is for Palawan to avoid becoming similar to certain Thai islands that have become overrun with clubs, bars, and establishments associated with prostitution, drugs, and sex.

Business owners will disagree with your comment. Foreigners who fell in love with Philippines (because not so touristy) and created business in the Philippines would wish there are more visitors.

Business entities are often more concerned with financial gain than with environmental conservation or the potential negative consequences that may arise. Consider the case of Boracay, where the intervention of the country's former president was necessary to halt the island's operations and prevent its descent into chaos. Sadly, Boracay is no longer the idyllic paradise it once was due to the influx of commercial enterprises and the surge in tourism. The utilization of improper sewage systems by hotels and restaurants resulted in the direct discharge of waste into the ocean, where tourists were leisurely swimming. Similarly, in Thailand, certain islands have been closed and governmental intervention is underway to salvage the situation brought about by unregulated tourism, excessive infrastructure development, and the proliferation of prostitution activities.

Despite their significant revenues, these islands encountered environmental degradation and the gradual destruction of their natural splendor. Must we endure a similar fate for our "Last Frontier", mirroring the dire situations faced by Boracay and Phi Phi islands? I encourage you to revisit this vlog where you'll witness them navigating the well-known Palawan lagoon while gathering a substantial amount of waste that is being disposed of in the sea. Thankfully, these conscientious travelers displayed care and empathy, which motivated them to collect the debris instead of disregarding it as it drifted by.

I couldn't agree more with your mom... 10 years ago I visited Palawan & it was awesome one of my best experienced that will stay with me. The new airport was also being made at that time. I can now imagine how tourist flock there now a days...
