I Found 100,000 Year Old River Treasure!!

We got out to a dark river here in Florida to do some scuba diving for Pleistocene vertebrate fossils which litter the bottom of this location! We managed to find pieces from long extinct prehistoric animals; large cats, giant ground sloths, massive bear-size beavers, etc. It's always a blast discovering things that nobody has ever seen before on the bottom of rivers like this!

The first whietail deer bone is a humerus, NOT a tibia as the caption says! I copied that text element in my editing program from another project and forgot to change the bone name. But I hope you won't make a habit of excluding her. 😞 The "Bri Factor" is a critically important dynamic of your interesting videos. No disrespect intended...but...the music is "a bit" too distracting. The "natural" sounds of the water, you & Bri digging at the gravel, your vocal expressions, etc, is much more preferable than "muzak". 🙂 Best regards, Ben

ABSOLUTELY want to see more videos like this. I thought I was smart, but I learned more in 15 minutes than I've learned in the last 3 years. This was amazing and VERY informative. When I saw that beaver jaw with the incisor still in it coming out of the silt, I came out of my chair. Such a great trip! Thanks! p.s. The diagrams of the animals with the body parts highlighted REALLY came across well on this end. Excellent teaching tool.

Thank you for showing us where the pieces of fossil came from on the animal. Finding fossils is such a cool thing to do, but putting the pieces in perspective makes it outstanding. I found the turtle leg to be my favorite! They have such an adorable curve to their little legs that makes them more endearing.

I really like the edits where you show exactly what part of the animal it comes from, and you explain things as we go along. I prefer this style to just telling everything at the end. It makes everything that we are seeing make sense as we're seeing it.

OMG! You guys found all kinds of treasures! I love the sloth claw! It gives you an idea of just how enormous these things were! I was just looking on your website too. And to think…that claw is missing the proximal end..and it’s the bone claw core. The actual claw would have been way larger..and that’s a small sloth. I’m glad you enjoyed the packs so much and thanks for helping support these videos by ordering them! Yes, many of our finds like these do make it to the website. I really need to update the site with a ton of new fossils and minerals soon.

Your video came out 3 days ago, but I didn't have the time to watch it until now, because I didn't want to rush through it but to have the time to sit down and enjoy it, knowing it would be great! Your nature and animal footage is always worth taking slow time to enjoy, and I learn something about fossils every time I watch. So by watching your videos, I found a horse tooth last year and knew exactly what it was. I was and am so excited to have found it in southern IL. Well I also found another tooth near it. I didn't know till now thanks to you it's an horse incisor. It's most likely the same horse. How exciting!!!!! Thank u

I am not Amira. I seriously considered going into the field years ago, but the amount of debt I’d be in from pursuing that degree and the fact that most paleontology jobs are for the oil industry pushed me away. Learning about nature is a lifelong pursuit for me though. As long as I’m breathing, I’ll be learning new things and sharing what I know with others.

Entoplasterons are always a favorite of mine but I think this time my favorites were the beaver incisor peice and jaw bone and that bird bone. I can't believe that bird bone survived to fossilize. Oh and the jaguar tooth was freaking cool! Then again that sloth claw was really cool too....it's so hard to pick a favorite!

What's really interesting is your filming style. You have a nice, steady filming hand (some KZfaqrs don't understand how to film, edit). I appreciate your mix of silliness and education along with your respect for the flora and fauna of the modern world. I've just purchased my second paleo-pack (I'm up to 175 shark teeth from my first sort-through of my first bag) because you have brought back my love of "seeing" the world of smaller fossils. Keep the films coming, please. You do a great job.

I still feel like I’m just starting my journey on making videos and plan to improve much more if I can. That’s also great to hear about the amount you’ve found in the PaleoPack! Some people just don’t look carefully enough to find 10% of what’s in there.
