This interview explores Wafa Ghnaim's work and how art and embroidery can support the movement for Palestinian liberation.
Wafa is a Palestinian American researcher, author, educator, and artist based in New York. She’s the founder of Tatreez & Tea, a Palestinian-led educational arts initiative focused on the preservation, documentation and research of textiles in the South West Asia & North Africa region.
In early October, Wafa, along with collaborators Kat, Noor, and J launched a call to action, inviting artists to stitch Palestinian resistance patterns. She says the goal is to flood social media with Palestinian solidarity, art and inspiration.

Wafa's work is so incredibly valuable. Her classes have given me so much more knowledge of Palestinians beyond the often one dimensional news stories. In a dehumanising news cycle, art is such an important part of resistance.

Thank you for this fantastic interview. It’s terrible that awareness and preservation of a culture is in such dire need of happening due to the genocide that is being enacted upon Palestinians. Thank you for every word in this interview, Wafa, your work is fascinating and you are also a delight. I was introduced to your work by a friend who used to live in Palestine, and I’m working on some pieces with Threads of Diaspora here in Canada (big multi-motif tatreez quilt!)
