There have been big changes in pay and hiring, so please check into those changes to decide whether this is the best option for you! Check out the changes here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lbaJe6hjys7bj42g.html Also, I have just been told that invitation/referrals codes have to be used AS you are making your account and can no longer be added later.

Thanks fo much for this video!! I have my interview tomorrow and it's very helpful!! So many great tips. I'm a bit curious about timing, I noticed that your demo went to just over 32 min but a class is 25 min, but you got a great score so would you say that it is not a big deal to go over 25 min for the demo? Thanks!!
@brittneycheray5204
@brittneycheray5204 3 жыл бұрын
Oo, I didn’t even check my timing! You definitely need to stay under 30 for the interview because it stops recording after 29 minutes! The challenge for this video was that my only option was to do the preparation task (that comes after you pass the interview), and it is interrupted by instructional videos throughout. It makes it a lot more difficult for me to pace myself! But I truly recommend 15-25 minutes and definitely not over 29! I’m sorry that I didn’t even catch this before! The other thing that I don’t think I covered well in the video (realized this afterwards) is having an additional reward system. Something simple that you do at the same time that you would give stars if a student were in the classroom. It can be actual stars that you have on hand or something else unique like fun cartoon characters or ice cream scoops on a cone, etc. Good luck on your interview!!

Hello! I’m glad that the video is helpful to you! I do want to warn you that I have only been seeing rejections right now from the few that have most recently applied. And because of the newest laws in China, foreign teachers outside of China will no longer be able to teach Chinese students. PalFish is trying to expand into more countries but at the moment, I just don’t know if they are hiring. (They have not told us that they stopped, but I have seen some rejected after the interview, some before, and a few that passed but are not being advanced to the next step, with no responses from the PalFish staff. I just want to get this warning upfront. In regards to the demo, you do have to click some buttons on the slides. But once you have scheduled your interview, you can enter the classroom and practice as many times as you need to before your actual interview! So let me know if you have any questions once you were actually practicing the lesson. I think it will be more clear then! ☺️ Oh, and thank you for the kind compliment. You are very sweet.

Hello Teacher brittney! thank you so much for your very insightful videos. I am doing my interview tomorrow for Palfish and this has helped me alot. @brittneycheray5204
@brittneycheray5204 3 жыл бұрын
Hello! I am sorry that I wasn’t able to respond sooner. (I am currently on vacation!) The lessons in OKC are very different from the interview in that there are no videos like those of the trial lessons. However, in the beginning days, you will (hopefully) be teaching many trial lessons. (Trials for students considering PalFish.) The interview is just the trial lesson for level 2. There is one trial lesson for each level. You will have the opportunity to study the slides and be familiar with the lessons. The trials for PF1 and PF2 are the only ones with videos and such. The others follow a similar pattern to most OKC lessons, but you will just have to learn OKC lessons as you go. (Familiarizing yourself with lessons once they are booked and you have access to them in the classroom. Does that make sense?

@brittneycheray5204
@brittneycheray5204 3 жыл бұрын
Not a stupid question, Pamela! But, yes, your phone does need to be upright. But only a square shaped frame ends up being visible from the app. In fact, it actually can be pretty challenging to get much into the camera view. If you notice my own backdrop, there are actually are a few feet between the camera and the wall. If you will be sitting/standing right against the wall, your backdrop would need to be smaller (or would just show a lot less). Does that make sense? Are you in the application process now? When I am working on a new backdrop, I just go in the classroom, set my device where it will be when teaching and figure out how much of the wall shows so that I can pick my backdrop size.

Hi britney. Why are you no longer recommend palfish? Do you have some recommendations for newbies?
@brittneycheray5204
@brittneycheray5204 3 ай бұрын
Hello! I made a video on this before, but the summary is that palish has gone down considerably in pay (nearly half what it was before) and treatment of teachers while maintaining abnormally high penalties for cancellations (even in the case of emergencies). They continue to higher new teachers even when great teachers have slim schedules. I just don’t wish this on any teachers! However, there are some who have said that they believe it is worth it based on their current circumstances, so each person just has to make that decision for themselves! Unfortunately, I have not stayed up-to-date on the requirements for current ESL companies that are still going. So I am unsure of which ones are good for newbies, but it would be helpful for you to look like this could give you ideas of where to start: kzfaq.infoTPNcYGtwHQ4?si=JoMpf7akdFjcvGQo That one is a couple of years old, but it would be worth looking into those, because Tim usually does some good research behind the stuff that he shares. I have a friend who works for nova kid, and she has really enjoyed it. She recommends it to others. I don’t remember the requirements for that one either, but it would be worth looking into! Try some searches for “online ESL companies that do not require experience”, and then dig into reviews of companies that you find! Unfortunately, a lot of the companies that are good for newbies have very low pay rates, so just have to pay attention when looking at all of the factors to figure out what is worth it to you! Here is an article I found last year showing platforms that do not require experience. PalFish is on that list, so that is reminded to dig into research and reviews of anything you find! www.theteflacademy.com/tefl-guide/teach-english-online-with-no-experience/

Hello, Hazel! Was this your interview? If so, you will not receive a score. You will only receive feedback on whether or not you passed within a few days. I had to do this video in the same way that you would do your lesson preparation tasks after you are approved. These are graded by artificial intelligence, and it gives you a score at the end. (See my most recent PalFish videos in my PalFish playlist.) I also have seen that MOST who apply are being rejected without being given a reason. There are, however, some who have been hired recently. I know this because they have reached out with questions about getting started. I would say that if the current pay scale (which is even lower than my last PalFish video) suits you and you are willing to put in the time for applying even with a high chance of not going through then go for it! But I have a question. Do you have previous teaching experience? Would you consider teaching on a platform like AmazingTalker? My two most recent videos break down how the platform works.

Hmm, I had not heard of this! I did try to help a 19 year old girl apply and she was rejected before doing her interview but not given a reason for why. I guess this is a possibility. I hope that isn’t the case for you sake, though. Again, it cannot hurt to apply (especially if you already prepared!), so go ahead and do your demo and see what happens!

@brittneycheray5204
@brittneycheray5204 2 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, it has to be longer than 15 minutes but 29 minutes or less because it stops recording at 30 minutes. For normal trials and lessons, the lessons HAVE to be 25 minutes, but since there is no real student, this is not required for the demo.

Okay! Have you already done the lesson preparation tasks? For the first two lessons that you teach to actual students, you will not know until they book the lessons. Once they are booked, you can go preview them. But you should be familiar with all of the trial lessons because 1) it can change close to the time the lessons starts (If the family requests a level change or if the student cancels and another is put in his/her place) and 2) you should be able to change the lesson yourself if you discover that the student has been placed in a very wrong level.

I’m sorry that I was unable to respond until now! I’m not sure what time zone you are in. If it will still allow you to add the code, you would only need to click “me”, the settings icon in the upper right, and then go to “inviter”. That is where you add the code 40260325.

Hmm, that’s odd! I haven’t heard of that before. Do you see any name already there when you go to “inviter”? If you followed someone’s link to begin the process, it likely automatically used their code. Either way, thank you so much for trying! They say that it should be within two business days. That was true for my most recent referral, but I have also seen it take longer before. Hopefully you will hear back in a day or two!

My interview is at 10am tomorrow and I have a few questions. How do I use your referral code? When do I record intro and show how to circle? Is that at the beginning of the interview? Will I have time before the slides begin? I'm so much in the dark about all of this, but I will try my best. Where can I PM you? (Wow! I can't believe I know what PM means!)

Hello, Rose! That’s wonderful! To check to see if you already have used a referral code (or to add mine), go to “me” on the bottom right of your homepage, then the settings icon on the upper right, and then two down to “inviter”. If no name is there, you can use my code 40260325. If there is a name, then you probably used someone’s link when signing up for PalFish! (Through an article or link below a video, likely). It will begin recording you when the timer hits 0, so you will introduce yourself, your classroom, and “teach” your (invisible) student to circle once the timer hits zero, and then you get started! As a reminder, make sure you go at least 15 minutes, but no longer than 29 (because it stops recording). You can email me at brittneycheray@gmail.com or respond here! You can also find me on the app! My teacher name is 🎶Brittney🎶

Hello! Unfortunately, I stopped working for this company a couple of years ago, and I am not up-to-date on any changes that may have taken place. Does it still have the trainings and demos needed for the main trial lessons? Have you tried those? Is your schedule open? If you are really stuck, send me an email, and I will need you to share some screenshots to see if I can figure out what you are missing or what you need to do next.
