Thx so much for watching! I was telling my friends, Richard and Shilei that these companies that sell the shells to developers should have some type of pile area and like say you pay a certain fee to shell there for an hour or something like that, you know they could be making some extra good money, as well as satisfies some shellers, and still use the leftovers for their construction!!

As time goes by, it’s getting less and less of a thing because of public safety but yes they are still out time to time… you have to do a little digging around for info and beach hopping because a lot of people are tight lipped about it, which I can totally understand, due to crowds, etc. In part 2 coming out next Sunday, I find more of the reticulated cowrie helmets and I did give some to a lady that was looking for them at this pile too 👍🏼 Thx for watching Maddie.

Thank you 🐚 Outside of this dredge pile I have never seen that one…not even a piece on any beach. Same of the brown moon. There is a drop off after the sandbars over on the east coast so it’s always a hit or miss with shelling here. I have never done a shell dump but I did spend several months digging on the beach in Boca Raton after a beach reconstitution project. The material I found was astounding both in number of species and condition. Tons of nearly perfect shells, including beautiful orange cabrit’s murexes with long intact spines, cones with perfect lips, etc.
@FloridaBeachWalks
@FloridaBeachWalks 22 сағат бұрын
That's amazing! And I did hear of someone saying something similar. That they would dig (I think right at the water's edge) after the Boca project. Awesome you found great finds--that is SO the BEST feeling! Take care and thank you so much for watching!
@marsrii4372
@marsrii4372 13 сағат бұрын
@@FloridaBeachWalks actually I dug further up, but it varies. After sometime, beach erosion would create a sort of wall near water’s edge. The reason that beach reconstitution project was so good is because they dredged sand between two reef ledges, at around 60ft, which brought deeper water species, including some rarities, even a baby junonia volute which I had never heard of from the east coast.
@FloridaBeachWalks
@FloridaBeachWalks 10 сағат бұрын
@@marsrii4372 wow that was such a neat opportunity. Yeah I have found large pieces of Junonia in Palm Beach County over the past three years and a friend at my church found a juvenile beat up one a couple years back… they are on the east coast too… the only issue we have is the ledge drop about 10 to 15 feet past the sandbars on the East Coast (that the Gulf stream carves out). That’s why nothing washes up and significant on a regular basis…. The West Coast is a constant gradation all the way down to the bottom except for a few cliffs way out in the middle of the gulf.

What a lovely day with your bestie! Thanks for letting us tag along. This reminds me of you. Proverbs 31:10-29 10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. 12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. 13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. 14 She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. 15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. 16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. 17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. 18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. 19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. 20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. 21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. 22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. 23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. 24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. 25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. 26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. 27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. 28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. 29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. ❤TN Nana

Hi, I moved to Cocoa about 18 months ago and I've wanted to find somewhere I can go shelling. There's not a good place for it at Cocoa Beach. Any help would be appreciated greatly 🙏🏻
@FloridaBeachWalks
@FloridaBeachWalks 3 ай бұрын
Nice I hope you are enjoying Cocoa! I actually want to take my kids up there maybe Friday to Ron John’s as we usually do as part of their spring break tradition. This dredge pile was from 2021. We found out about this pile a month after it was open-it was tight lipped. I live near Cocoa and I pretty much shell from Fort Pierce down to Palm Beach on our east coast and do make it to the west coast when I can. Fort Pierce has some easier access beaches by the inlet. And Sebastian Inlet is a nice place to shell too. Cocoa at time is ok to shell but I’ve not had much luck but then again I’ve never shelled at first light there so maybe the early birds are getting the worms? 🙃 The beaches in front of Patrick base are good at times-mainly if there are wash-ups after a storm or high winds. Wishing you all the best in shelling and thx for watching!

@FloridaBeachWalks
@FloridaBeachWalks 3 ай бұрын
It’s literally play it by ear because it’s really tight lipped. We only found this pile a good month after it was out to the public. It’s being in the right place at the right time and sometimes you just have to start traveling/investigating around places that are doing dredging and see if they have anything extra going on for the public. In this particular case, I was in a shelling group on facebook and I flat out just asked a lady who had posted her finds; asked over messenger and she was nice enough to inform me. A lot of people don’t say if you ask and I respect their choice-over crowding is another reason people don’t say. As I told someone in a previous comment, they should have piles that you can pay to go in and shell…that way the construction people could be getting extra money and satisfy some shellers as well as providing construction material, like a win-win for all. It’s just sad to imagine that a lot of these dredging projects do not have public piles & all those awesome shells are just crushed! Anyways, thank you so much for watching ❤️

Don't forget to leave some shells on the beach for the hermit crabs who don't come with shells so they dont' have to use a plastic shampoo bottle lid their home
@FloridaBeachWalks
@FloridaBeachWalks 3 ай бұрын
Thank you for your concern & watching. The shells collected here were all heading to construction sites to be crushed and used for foundations under buildings or roads. The massive amount of shells trucked out of this area after the sand/shell sorting was mind blowing… dump truck after dump truck all day being shipped out. Gives one an idea of how many shells are in the ocean for life to continue after the mollusk has expired or been eaten; being these millions of shells only came out of a small portion right outside of Phipps park. I believe “trash” is an issue for a hermit & other sea life. Hermit crabs select their homes for various reasons and trash over abundance is something to consider too. Here is a really good recent article on the issue posted this year: www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/hermit-crabs-using-trash-as-shells-across-the-world-scientists-find-180983701/#:~:text=When%20hermit%20crabs%20select%20a,white%20or%20black%20bottle%20caps.
