This was the result of a lot of requests for bringing to life some ancient Greek faces especially from the golden age. Having some personal knowledge of ancient Greece, this could be the first part of an info, teach thingy about this subject or perhaps the Persian invasions of Greece.

Some seem surprised that these ancient Greeks look like modern Greeks and other Europeans but of course they do because Modern Europeans still resemble our early modern European ancestors from thousands of years ago so relative to that our Greek and Roman ancestors aren't particularly that ancient. it is obvious, he let himself be influenced by the faces of modern Greeks, being him Greek. It is no coincidence that the reconstructions of the Romans suck, they are badly done. There is nothing scientific in these reconstructions, there is only the subjective choice of those who make these reconstructions.

@user-if7lp1bq8n 3 жыл бұрын
@@supermavro6072 have you? Search in google for greek faces, models, athletes, Cypriots and also priests, that should close your mouth... 80-100% greeks looks the same as ever, there are more thousands facts and i know our history and culture by heart... there is a LOT i can explain you... A Greek DNA is made up of all the haplogroups that brought together the Hellenic tribes, minoans, mycenaeans, dorians, ionians, corinthians, etc. These groups came from the Caucasus, northern Africa, southern Europe, the Aegean and actually from all areas around the Mediterranean. Our DNA has nothing in common with Mongolia, Western Europe, South Africa, etc., but you will find our genetic composition in all countries where greeks mingled with other Christians, this happens ugly when greeks live abroad but the natives have only mixed 99% with greeks, a genetic similarity is also found in all greek colonial areas, southern Italy, albania (only the colonial area), bulgaria, western Anatolia, egypt, etc. At the time of the Ottoman Empire, the Romans in Anatolia converted to Islam in order to save taxes and only these have mixed with other Islamised inhabitants in today’s Turkey, a mixture between Orthodox and Islamists was and is forbidden, for this reason you can find in "Turks" over 16 different haplogroups, among others Greek. The Greeks proudly continue their culture and not for nothing we have insulted and fought others as barbarians, on the mainland and on our islands we have only mixed with ourselves, because only Greeks can follow the same culture and feel it best. So if you’re looking for a Greek DNA, it’s not a single one, it’s the specific combination of haplogroups which determine our phenotypes. Since information is also stored in genetics, behaviors, diseases, temperament, etc., continue to be inherited, and that is what constitutes a specific person of an ethnic culture. ETHNOS in itself means first and foremost that all follow the same system, same language, same alphabet, same culture, same deities, etc. and that mostly these people continue to mix is also called genetic ethnicity. We hellenes differ from the Greeks in the first place from the exact tradition, the application of virtue and especially of religion. When the Greek Romans settled down in Western Anatolia and created the Christian byzantium there (eastern roman empire), they fought the ethnic hellenes in the most vicious way to destroy Hellenism, they destroyed the statues, temples and burned down many of our books and libraries, but many of us could save and hide, so we still exist, the thought that we were wiped out is a pure rumor of the western world, which came about when the Greeks did not want to join the axis. Of course, our ethnic continuation has now prevailed and are therefore officially and legally native ethnic Hellenic, which means that our Olympic religion is also official. This may not suit the Greeks, because they think we are special, but the truth is they have to question themselves and deal with facts that reflect the bitter truth that has always been repressed by the church, especially in schools and universities ! Talk with us and you will learn a lot. We do not ask that you greeks give up your beliefs, even if we believe that a foreign religion is not Greek, but at least we should not be seen as outsiders because we have followed the culture of our ancestors for generations and our family tree, we are just hellenes and we will make sure that we continue to exist!

For all the ebbs and flow of its history; it is still and will always remain a bedrock. Of history, of culture, of it's own personal aura built on thousands of years of history; that is like no other. Greece will always be the lodestar for everyone that has ever loved it. They were Mediterranean for the most part, but they did have a touch of northern ancestry in them. This would show up randomly (genetic recombination). So you might have a blonde here and there, but it wasn't the norm. And it likely depended on the part of Greece in question. I have no doubt certain tribal groups (and city-states) might have looked slightly different (darker or more fair) depending on where you went. We know Greece had different cultures - the Athenians thought the Spartans were absolute nutters. It's clear they had vastly different cultures and I do not believe this was random. I think it goes way back to earlier migrations.

There is a strong continuity because modern Greeks in vast majority are descendants of Mycenean Greeks, at least. www.sciencemag.org/news/2017/08/greeks-really-do-have-near-mythical-origins-ancient-dna-reveals so there is not a huge percentage with alien characteristics like Turkic, Turkic characteristics today are mostly met in central Asia areas like Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Xinjiang area of China etc.

I am a future historian archaiologist reading Hellenic books my entire time.I am writing this just because for the haters in the comment.I ve been watching your channel the past week and i am really excited.The ancient Romans were really impressive because they sculp realisticly.Anvient hellenic art has nothing to do with it.They created faces with the ideal /iconic historan,statesman,philosopher,general characteristics.For example fuller beard shapes curly hair lenght dramatic eyes depth etc.So i have to say nice try but as many wrote in the comments below they all look more handsome than sculptures.The truth is we will never really know their actual faces.For example Xenophon himself at "Kirou Anabasis" wrote about himself as a handsome young man but at the same time trying to be realistic at his text.I mean its not his fault if he was really andsome.Later after Generals daeths in Persian feast deep in Asia he wrote about a bad person with pretty much trash personality and at the end he wrote about his patchy beard.So i suppose in this video Xenophon at least would be the one with a full beard and not a patchy one as we watch.Last but not least i will ignore every westerner European or American brainwashed had read only one Plato book believing propaganda of ancient Hellas as a super duper gaylords land meanwhile he had never read any other book of Hellenic literacy and those Albanian Bulgarian Slavs and Turks braimwashed nationalists who manage every f#$king time to comment in this comment section trying to claim everything Hellenic for themselves.They firstly direspect our history and then their own.Thank you.Have a great day.

Your video got me thinking whether ancient Greeks aimed for accuracy when creating these busts. I remember learning in a history of art course at university that it was mostly during Roman times that statues became realistic in the way that they portrayed the flaws or uglier parts of their given subjects. Ancient Greek statues were idealized in a way, or removed the flaws in the appearance of their subjects. A kind of Photoshop of the day. But I guess that could mostly be true not of busts but of things like kouroi and statues that were more aesthetic than trying to portray real people.

Regarding the busts presented in this video, in my opinion they do not seem to have been idealized when created.

Very cool! I've noticed in many videos like this that the AI tends to make faces more attractive than average though. Male and female both. I'm sure as time goes on it will get better at capturing and recreating the sort of realistic imperfections that many people have, but when you get an even composite of many different faces you end up with something that most people instinctively recognize as good looking. From there I imagine the artist does some tweaking of the face shape to match statues. No offense to the artist though because this is really good and way better than I could do!

We need to have something in mind though. The ancient statues did not try to depict the real faces of people, only what was considered ideal. It was in the Roman era that realism in the faces was achieved because up until then art was only meant to depict ideal beauty or virtue. Most probably, none of these personalities looked anything like their sculptures since they were made to depict the perfect politician, the serious philosopher etc

Jesus, I can't get why some people are critical on the resemblance between ancient and modern Greek faces. What exactly would you expect to be the reference? Germanic faces? Nordic faces? African faces? Asiatic faces? Of course those people would look like modern Greeks. Greek population in mainland and the islands was never completely exterminated. Yes, there were invasions , yes there was often emigration between Anatolia and European Byzantine and Ottoman Greeks but the people were never distinguished. If you are looking for "pure" blood Greeks...guess what, they never existed. Even the ancient Greeks belonged to several different tribes. Mycenaeans, Dorians, Ionians, Aeoleans, Macedonians, etc.

Yes, but not merely an info, teachy thing. Go full force, teach these people about the greatness of the Ancient Greeks. They came up with concepts, and ways of thinking about the world, that is still present and strong in Western Civilization. They are the biggest of the "big three" of Western Civilization, 1. Ancient Eqypt, 2. Ancient Greece, 3. Ancient Rome. I think humanizing them is a strong approach to making people open to leaning about them.

This is a nice artistic recreation of faces. However, they don't seem to accurately portray their unique characteristics well such as their brow line, nose shape, eye depth, facial hair patterns, etc. However, it does get the jaw line and basic head shapes right.
