The 'Bondok' is a long uppercut used in the Kali-Silat striking arts, usually proceeding a vertical gunting entry. Since it comes from underneath the opponent's arm, it can be hard to see, making it a devastating strike. Sifu Tylus Quan Do demonstrates the setup necessary in landing the 'Bondok'.

In my 8 years of studying the Filipino Martial Arts, I've dedicated myself towards specializing in Panantukan - the empty-handed fighting system of Kali. And to this day, it remains the most impressive and hard-hitting self-defense oriented martial art I've ever witnessed.
Finding an instructor in Panantukan is extremely hard, yet I've been fortunate enough to have been mentored by some of the best in the industry. For that reason, I wanted to share with you the most important techniques, drills, and concepts that I've learned from all my years of study and application.
With Panantukan Online - The Art of Weaponized Empty Hands, you'll be able to access the course material from anywhere in the world to share with your training partners and students. I guarantee that your skill sets will reach new levels, as did mine when I began my practice of this deadly and efficient art!

I wasn't sure about it either, so had to double check with Sifu! I'm sure the spelling is wrong, but that hardly matters. Just lucky that we have our teacher to pass on the terms and knowledge form Guro Dan Inosanto before it all goes to dust!

Then Bondok would be appropriate. It means mountain in the Filipino language. It's colloquially spelled Bundok, pronounced with short vowels (read: boondok), like you want to say the word as fast as you can.

I use this uppercut entry all the time as a lead-in to the 1/4 puter kepala (or Kepala Gaja) and other techniques, but I appreciate seeing all the possible responses to the first punch. Thanks. - Wael

I'm not sure which dialect it is, whether Tagolog or Visayan. But we refer to it as Sico for Silat as well... so not sure where the overlap exists!

Does it matter if they are up and up / toe to toe? Does it have to be done when you split guard?
@SakanLam
@SakanLam 7 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean by the first question. Do you mean if we are same lead forward? Regards to your second question, the long uppercut can be thrown off a slipped punch. You don't have to parry and trap first.

split the guard? when your opponents lead foot is placed in your centerline? Up and up, toe to toe? Squared up, man to man. it doesn't or does matter? 😀

Bodyboarding Today It matters a bit. The Panantukan stance is very profiled, or side on like a boxer. Not similar to a Muay Thai squared stance. Even if the opponent is lined up with you, there should be a slightly longer distance between your shoulders and his line of attack. This gives you longer reaction time to parry and deflect. Hope that makes sense.
