What a superb record. At this period I was commuting regularly from Greenfield to Manchester Victoria and passed this location virtually daily. These films bring it ALL back.

Wonderful stuff, John - shows just how much has been lost over the years, including a much more flexible track layout, eh.

Wow this vid really is a splendid capture of the workings of 1990/1. I have watched this many times. And theres some lovely Stanlow oil traffic, 2 services of which the 47 were booked to be piloted by a 37 (from small IM FPBC fleet, seen at 38mins) as far as Castleford i think, on the heavier loaded Leeds and Jarrow services. Great stuff thanks for filming this back then eh.

Thank you for sharing. I'm currently modeling the era. A similar fictional scenario around Lancashire Yorkshire border. Excellent research material. Given me next project material for my layout. Several rakes of grotty Mk1 coaching stock in heavily weathered NSE livery hauld by 37/8. Thank you.

Wow great vid, those oil trains looked heavy and reminded me of when they used to go through chinley on their way up the hope valley line in particular one evening I remember a pair of class forty’s absolutely flat out engines screaming at just above walking pace ! Wether they got to their destination without help I will never know! And even today you can see most types of Locos in this film still hard at work on various duties !

At 13:10 the second MK1 appears to still be on the dreaded BR1 bogie. Surprised they lasted as long as 1990!

The red and green coaches were a privately owned railtour set and they belonged to Pilkington Glass. Their logo can be seen on each of the coaches.
