Miss those days ❤️ Born in 1973 , Remember the sound of these classic icons of BR times ❤️ Don't like today's railways,Not like pastimes when people were able to stick their heads out of the Carriages ,Today's generation of Locomotion isn't the same as pastimes with Health and safety standards that are a pain in the rear ,Love the old DMUs also ❤️ Long before Electrification changed the Scottish landscape forever ,These were times I remember growing up as a boy alsorts here from BR Locomotion,The Class 20s ,The Screaming Valenta aka as The 125 ,The old 1950s DMU units I remember using also to get from Kirknewton to Edinburgh or Glasgow.Would love to go back to these times ❤️

Quality footage there, some superb sights and sounds and great locations. These were the days, and i'm glad my dad took me up to Scotland a few times in the 1970's & 1980's to travel on various lines and see the 26's, 27's, 37's, and so on in action. Luckily i do have some West Highland footage with Class 37's from the late 80's, but wish i had more than just a stills camera for my trips in the previous years.

The Westfield line( nr Thornton,Fife ?) has not been there for decades. The Cameron line is being reinstalled from Leven to Thornton as i type after being closed for many a decade. Brilliant photography of THE BRIDGE. I remember the day when you could go under The Bridge on the Fife side and have picnics. That facility along with the general public is, no longer permitted.

Great upload mate...whilst at my grans in Kirkcaldy (pratt st opposite raith rovers) you would hear the train coming. .used to run out to see what it was ..usually class 26/27...or a class 37 ...loved travelling to Edinburgh as a kid sometimes just there and back...often would see large coal trains too...the smell of diesel on the tracks on a hot day...joined the railriders club (remember that)...ahhh happy days in more innocent times

Great vid, that 47 pulling out of North Quuensferry is wonderful and the HST with the Paxman engine. My uncle was a driver based at Haymarket in the late 80's.

Great footage thank you for sharing with us, I traveled on those trains when I was young. I miss the loco hauled trains might have been a bit late at times but least you usually got a seat and you were not crushed in like sardines. I remember getting the train from Waverley into Fife and at that time BR were still using corridor coaches on these services so the family often managed to get a compartment to themselves. I also remember often trying to persuade my parents to get the Aberdeen train as it usually had a larger locomotive on the front (and zero chance of being a DMU). Happy days :-)

its nice to think theres still a loco hauled service that leaves Edinburgh for fife during the weekly rush

@dampFreddie Thanks. The 37 was on a SRPS excursion - the notes I have states the loco was 37261 and the date was 2nd May 1987. Probably WHL bound. It started at Ladybank with the stock worked down from Perth. As you say they were pretty rare considering their numbers but could occasionally be seen on the Dundee stoppers and the Aberdeen - Immingham Speedlink

Great footage from the days of real trains, before the DMUs took over.

The 20's at 4:51 were filmed at Westfield near Thornton and the pair at 5:40 at Torryburn working the Kincardine line.

@wcmlfan Hi, can't say I ever recorded one but that's certainly not to say it did not happen. Thanks, Bruce
@Rich2701413 жыл бұрын
@wcmlfan The use of 26s etc. came about due to a fitters strike around the middle of August 86, resulting in a lot of first generation DMUs lying around Haymarket and Eastfield in various states of disrepair. Some of the Mk 1s that were carted out to replace them on the Edinbugh-Kirkcaldy and associated services (such as Cardeneden, Berwick etc.) were certainly past their best and they pretty much used whatever traction they could get their hands on. The colour scheme was irrelevant.

superb. What was that 37 working? Bloody hard to get on the east coast before 1987.
