The fact that Elidibus sees basically our entire history with him and still chooses to call us "friend" despite everything messes me up. This is why closure is important.

I think in his Themis form here, he might have finally been able to deduce we are likely Azem. Of course, he would never ask us himself, but I think he's glad that we will live on as both the friend he fought alongside in Pandemonium, the Azem who helped him in the Convocation, and the Warrior of Light who helped save the star he sacrificed himself to save. Closure is indeed so important.

So fun fact, the writer for Pandemonium is the new lead writer for Dawntrail, Daichi Hiroi. If you want to get the conspiracy board and string out, this means Hiroi has now written lore on every single named piece of auracite in FF14, as he was the assistant writer for both Ivalice and Bozja. And then Unukalhai mentioned that the memoria crystals that Zero has been turning voidsent into are another form of auracite.

So which part of the travesty of DT is he responsible for then? The forced comedy? The overuse of the same lines every five minutes? The first few zones questlines as a whole? The complete focusing of a single character that ideally should have been left behind after the first half so we can do WoL things? That absolute horrid final trial phase change cutscene?

I'm the one who made the superchat that Elidibus was the G'raha Tia for the Convocation. Expanding on this idea, not only is G'raha one of the younger Scions, discounting his mind/soul which is 100s of years old, he is also the one who holds the strongest conviction in the Scions' mission and particularly us the WoL. This mirrors Elidibus pretty well as we see him being chided by the other Convocation members for his strong link to duty, and he was the one most willing to step up and sacrifice himself for the salvation of the star in Zodiark. There was also the 5.3 scene where climbing up the Crystal Tower we have a heart to heart moment with G'raha. We even tell him how Elidibus speaks similarly about his mission the way G'raha described us as being his reason for continuing on. It just fits so well. If Elidibus wasn't an Unsundered Ascian, his shard would have 100% been G'raha Tia.

OKAY SHORTER POST TO DUNK ON ATHENA NOW Athena has a very interesting ability in her fight: Paradeigma. Keen nerds like me would recognise that as the move that Zodiark also used to create beings as attacks. Hey that's pretty impressive! Athena is just one single Ancient soul, but she managed to achieve the same level of creation magic as Zodiark, god of the ancients formed from immense sacrifice. But that's not what she was aiming for. She wanted to be a god who could see the flaws of the world and set them to rights. To be an existence beyond any other. But she couldn't clear the threshold. The best she achieved was impressive, but it was still in the domain of the Ancients. Nothing more. During her second phase in the savage, many of her mechanics are named after flawed scientific theories. Geocentrism, for example, is one of her mechanics, and also the theory that the sun revolved around the earth. And that's the sadness of it all, and the hilarity. She thought of herself so highly. She tried so hard, and sacrificed others for her gain. But where did it get her? Nothing more than a heap of flawed theories and slightly more impressive creation magic. She never even got close to her dreams. How sad.

she's the most powerful foe fought in a Final Fantasy, easily, she achieved more power than Zodiark, or any other "power" in the various games, yet for all her power, she is a complete loser, who cannot do anything she set out to do, namely, create Souls from nothing, a true impossibility. still fearsome, and easily the greatest, most evil threat in the setting, as not only does she not have the concept of mercy or humanity, she actively would disect all of reality as a matter of course, to her, her evil torturous, insane acts, would be out of scientific obligation.

I also bet that if canonically the Warrior of Light did not defeat Athena, she would basically WandaVision herself and literally create some magical world where it looks like she can just create stuff out of nothing, creating a world far more impressive than Emet-Selch’s recreation of Amaurot.

I absolutely love how that, by the end of the saga, they get you to feel a bit of that grief, loss, and longing that the Ancients like Emet and Elidibus were probably feeling for thousands of years prior. It's immensely difficult imo to write villains where at the end of it all you can say "I completely understand and can't say I wouldn't have done the same in their place." While still being against their actions. God, I love this game.

The way this all ties together, is that, apparently, the heart of sabik, or black auracite in jp, was the key, so ofcourse the place where Laha died, and where he left the stone, is what was pulled in to finish the plan. Even further, he gave it to gaius to get the required Aether from the primals, to awaken it, as he states himself in the trial of the Ultima Weapon. All this paints a picture of the Lababrea we met beign firmly under the auracite's obsession influence, not focussed on the 7th calamity anymore, but on his wife.

Now given this, I am surprised the Ascians held together for so long; Emet-Selch must be an effective taskmaster to wrangle every single Ascians who by the events of FFXIV are basically doing their own thing save Igeyohrm, Elidibus, and the unremembered Ascians. That’s still half the Ascians doing their own thing.

@apljack
@apljack Ай бұрын
I have a headcanon on why Lahabrea does not recognize the WoL, though this is more thoughts on context rather than anything I saw outright in the game. However, each of the unsundered had a different reason for not remembering, even though they have interacted with WoL prior to the End of Days. Their personalities/differences as we encountered them post sundering can be explained the same ways. Emet - Obviously, memory was wiped. While he was never perfectly sane with the long millennia, he did also always seem the most 'composed' of the unsundered. He planned, he calculated, and he could even see reason outside his mission to a degree. He says all of them were tempered by Zodiark, and it may be true, but the fact he is AWARE of it enough indicates tempering for them may have been lessened in effetiveness. Elidibus - Long time as a Primal, first inside Zodiark and after he pulled himself free to help the others. He held onto his duty, but his memories became clouded and jumbled as was told during Shadowbringers. So much so, even his time in the Aetherial Sea did not fully recover them. Lahabrea(implied) - Easily the least composed of the Unsundered. He always seemed one of the most impulsive and especially when the Ascians actually were nothing more than moustache twirling villain types, he was spearheading the rejoinings to bring Zodiark back(which is how they see 'saving the star' as we find out when they are fleshed out). He clearly is unhinged at times, almost as if his mind is warped. I, honestly, believe being close to the Heart of Sabik was what pushed him so much more than the others to cause his mind to lose focus of anything other than his mission. A part of him /may/ even know who we were, but we were what was blocking the mission so all he knew was the remove the obstacle.

I don't usually comment on videos because I like watching things on my tv and whatnot, but I felt compelled to after watching the entire livestream of this last night. I'm so glad you guys had fun with these raids, they're also my favorite content in game, and I've gone through the story three times now. I will more than likely watch these raids again in the near future while I do the grind for DT prep. The content here is always such a joy to experience, so thank you both for taking the time and effort to do this. Going on a mini tangent, so sorry in advanced for the length. Erichthonios jumped in the rankings to be my fave character sharing a spot with G'raha (truly highest of character honors). For me, he's one of the best written characters in the game especially when you put him against how we're supposed to perceive the ancient society. He's so un-apologetically emotional and sentimental and he can only do one certain kind of magic and that's after spending years of practicing it and having a boost from friends. (idk if you guys caught it, but the crystals he wears are aids he got from lahabrea to help his magic and the fact that he kept them despite being at odds with the man for most of his life is extremely telling). He's extremely brave and stubborn, even the game acknowledges this on the flavor text of his minion. I saw someone mention that Athena can be seen as an evil foil to Venat and Erich can be seen as a parallel to wol and I like that! Our buddy Erich! To this day, his last line about having to go against a direct order from the convocation does something to my brain since it brings a lot of potential implications that tie into the whole Zodiark thing. If not every offered soul was 100% voluntary (societal pressure of wanting to be "useful" or having lived a long enough life to be seen as fulfilled and ready to return to the star anyways comes to mind) then that explains some of their desperation before the trial. All in all it feels like such a great coda for so many story threads while also feeling like something new and refreshing and ultimately its own with the whole cast. I keep going "no way can devs can top this for me" but I guess we'll have to see what's in store for DT.

Something to point out now everything is over, out of all the ancients that we saw their monster form of, only Erich has no wings. And knowing that their transformed form is how they see themselves, him unable to properly cast internment magic due to insufficient aether might have reflected as him being unable to soar and fly.

I wanna talk a little about memory aether and souls because I think it's really interesting, so forgive the longish post. So just as Scholarch Montichaigne said, soul and memory are related but different. A soul has memory aether inscribed on it which represents the life of the individual in the moment, but that memory aether can be scrubbed away by the lifestream allowing the soul to be reborn without memories. Except that memories can be scratched onto the soul so thoroughly that little marks, which just won't buff out, survive rebirth after rebirth. The soul of Lahabrea got chomped by Thordan, it's long long gone. Erich's soul has been sundered, and the remnant of it on the source is Claudien now. Themis, I truly don't know exactly how his soul made it from the first to the source, but given his desire was to return to his loved ones, whose souls would also go into the lifestream of the source, maybe he just willed it. Or maybe Hydaelyn did him a solid. Either/or, not too important. Now Athena has access to the memory crystal, which contain the memories of Lahabrea and Erich up to the point they loaded those memories onto the crystal. So no memories of beyond that point in time, which was during the Final Days. Per her own words, she plucked two random souls from the lifestream, loaded them with lahabrea.exe and erichthonios.exe, and they were good to go. Copies of the memories of the original, but nothing to do with the souls of the originals. Those two random souls were in the lifestream so likely had next to no memory aether remaining. Blank slates waiting to be born. When Laha and Erich dispersed themselves, they let their memory aether go, and the souls they were layered on went back into the lifestream. I imagine when those two souls are eventually reborn, they might have a couple "scratches" from the memory that was applied to them during this time. Per Athena's words, there was another guy she was trying to make for us, but the "soul" was being squirrely. She doesn't have access to a copy of Themis's memories, so to get that she has to go duplicate a copy off of the actual Themis soul in the lifestream which was probably flipping her off every time she tried to grab it. The Themis she made said he was just a random soul with memories pasted on top, so we have to assume that Athena did manage to get hold of Themis soul for a second, nab a copy of themis.exe, and then let the soul go because it was such a pain to work with. So my theory based on all that is that the very last cutscene, with the water, is the memories of the themis we met finding their way back to the soul, almost magnetically so, and in receiving those memories the soul itself was granted peace as well. That's my read.

16:44 "I need you." Garrett to Kyle to 2024. 31:45 Love the Durante is Zenos his friend is us headcanon. 1:12:30 Am so happy. 1:28:45 It's the personalities of the souls they're eating. 1:35:00 The behemoth mode knows no chill. 1:59:07 Suddenly Garrett. 2:14:25 White auracite is Moen's invention which we'd kept secret amongst ourselves. Regular auracite is the memory storage and desire amplifying crystals featuring in Ivalice, some of which are confirmed to have been made directly by the High Seraph. 2:41:30 Yeah, that fight is healer stress. 3:15:20 One does not not crank up the Twinning. 3:25:15 I always get teary eyed when I hear any arrangement of Neath Dark Waters. 3:35:30 Fun fact, that is the same Styx move that Zodiark uses except half dark/half light while Zodiark's was obviously all Dark. The move was originally Themis's and Zodiark could only use it because Elidibus was formerly his heart. 4:04:45 Kyle alternating between Spock and Invader Zim is a hilarious mental image. 4:57:30 That's my belief as well. 5:05:05 I know, right? 5:21:50 So now we know why he went crazy and why he had his full mask in ARR. The same 12,000 years that broke Elidibus and wearied Emet, plus absorbing the bit of his soul tainted by Athena. 5:44:00 He finally gets to rest in the sea for good, be cleansed, and eventually be reborn. I like the read that in the end Athena subconsciously conjured Erich from her memories in her final moments to see her son one last time before she meets her end, possibly out of pride that he of all people stopped her or because a smart part of her actually does regret what she did and loves her son. Her soul should be cleansed of the heart of Sabik's influence in the aetherial sea, so only in death would she be a caring mother.

You know what I find absolutely fantastic about Pandemonium, it got to give us an enemy who was just pure evil no redemption at all (Athena) while also redeeming/making us sympathize with our former enemies (Lahabrea and Elidibus). We got to have our villain cake and eat it too. They also managed to retrospectively make us feel bad for ARR and Heavensward Lahabrea cause dude was just out of his mind by that point, the body hopping, auracite influence, and Athena's whispers from the auracite would have messed this man's soul up badly.

There's a weird thought to think if you met yourself in the past doing ARR and at the first meeting of Elidibus, that the past you would be unable to fathom how that fairly uninteresting ascian would at the very least make you cry for him twice or trice far into the distant story future. It's such a long journey to reach that point and unlike Emet, Elidibus is largely not that intriguing or show much emotion for you even with 6.3. To then try to imagine he'd become a true close friend you may miss is crazier. And then who knows, that last bit is so ominously ambiguous in its delivery if it means he's being reborn to "meet him" again. Which leads to a crazier thought that now that Elidibus, Emet, Laha, Hythlo and all the other ancients who were inside Zodiark is back into the lifestream to be reborn, does it mean they will be reborn as people with unsundered souls? Or will it balance it out by remolding their souls to be of the same density or split them? It's an interesting thought and one that may play a role in the future, but likely need a timeskip. Cause if they remain unsundered that could mean very interesting plotpoints of such people being born with abilities far beyond anyone else. To come back to the raid, I absolutely love the OST for the first 2 bosses. I love how it feels like a twisted, ghastly, ethereal and distorted version of the previous ones with the same motif in there but all a mess. It invokes, atleast for me, this feeling of "something old and lost through time" like the souls in there that are meant to fade away from what they once was but you can grasp a lingering of their essence like the first boss does. Like you finding a old record of a song but given the fading of time and damage, the song is all distorted. Or a MP3 file that's old and corrupted, blended in with the other tunes and then maybe you tried fixing it to sound something like the old but with a blend of instruments.

Elidibus has such ominous words at the end, in what I assume is a moment of perfect clarity: "should this star continue upon its path..." I wonder if the light at the end is oblivion, rebirth, or something more. For months I thought the 9th Circle mage's lament was talking puns, Mr Freeze style. Bit of a disappointment when I finally did look up her lines. Missed opportunity imo, she had the right kind of fun/manic voice to pull it off.

So the Heart of Sabik corrupted Athena and Lahabrea into pretty much insanity, temporary messed up the minds of two keywards and caused two other keywards to go fully insane to the point that one of them even killed himself "for Lahabrea" and potentially negatively influenced Gaius too, albeit to a much smaller degree. Should we let Claudien just walk away with it? Yeah, sure, what's the worst that could happen. ^^ If it was me, I'd take the Ragnarok for a little spin around the solar system and toss the stone into the sun... or if we still have enough aether to make hyper-hopper jumps, I'd even fly to one of the star systems, where we know there's no life (plenty of those around thanks to the Meteions) and toss it into their sun.

Two thoughts: first, the savage fights for this tier were extremely challenging in some very specific ways, and P10 was designed by one of the Ultimate-tier designers, which certainly showed. Second, when I went through this all and Elidibus started speaking aloud at the very end, I lost it and started crying all over again. That little jerk.

This bit suggests that the High Seraph arrived on Etheirys before The Sundering. My personal theory suggests that this is somewhat like Jenova, or the entity from Spirits Within. A chunk of a world that was about to be destroyed, possibly even by one of the Meteia, that landed on our star and Athena found it. Though then the question remains: Did it get sundered or not? There may be a High Seraph shard on each reflection...

The main thing that this story got me thinking is that Ultima, the high seraph Is not from this world How many other godlike entities have we encountered that were not truly gods? The primals are not gods the ascians are not gods omega is not a god metion is not a god and now I'm just curious if all these other "gods" are just pieces of other entities that got sundered and then were mistaken as gods or were they just aliens from different worlds

3:06:00 You should have just let Kyle go on with that Lahabrea ARR dialogue, it's interesting and it's good to see someone *attempt* to re-examine old content with a new context, instead the entire moment is drowned out by "IS THIS IS A BIT? KYLE IS THIS A BIT? ANYWAY HELLO EVERYONE I'M GONNA TALK WHILE HE DOES THIS BIT." Goddamn, the lore talk isn't going to harm the stream, it's actually a good part of why some people watch. Lore EDIT: The fact Elidibus even exists in this raid story is baffling, he references the 5.3 content towards the end, meaning he *is* in fact our Elidibus, and not just a recreation. But OUR Elidibus was going to have his soul slowly disintegrated by the crystal tower in 5.3. Then we learn in Endwalker that he is (somehow) still intact, but then clearly tells us that sending us to Elpis was going to burn up what was left of his soul until nothing remained, which is what happened to Venat, who no longer exists at all. The problem with that is Athena found his soul (somehow), and the game then ignores the fact that he wouldn't even be in the Aetherial sea because he "died" (and got deleted) on the first, a different reflection, with it's own Aetherial sea. During EW, Venat (through Krile) mentions that she brought Minfilia's soul back to The Source's sea, and one other (Which turned out to be Emet, so he could be with Hythlo and be summoned by us. He even references this by saying “So, here I am Venat. I suppose you needed me to tie it all together…”). Which means that there shouldn't be any trace of Elidibus anywhere, and even if there was, it would be in the Aetherial sea of another reflection, which I'm not sure Athena would even know/understand anything about.

Considering even the Ancients didn't fully understand the properties of souls and afterlife (as shown by certain dialogues in Elpis), I find it an acceptable handwave that Elidibus didn't expect a part of his soul to survive the process. This could also leave open the option that something of Venat's soul may have also survived - whether that's a narrative thread I'd care to see visited is... _complicated._ Hydaelyn also said that "one other" *before* Elidibus powered the portal to Elpis, so at that point it would've only been Emet that got carried over - and it fits Hydaelyn's M.O. to yoink what remained of Elidibus' soul over to the Source-stream as well once he was released from the CT on the First. Meanwhile, Athena implied that there were also memories of Themis in the crystal (the ones of the soul hard to work with), and as per Scholarch Montichaigne's lecture Soul and Memory are linked as "incorporeal aether", and thus I assume Athena's recreation of Themis being formed of his actual soul was either a happy accident, or Elidibus' soul being naturally drawn to unite with its memories. Considering the previous I find that Elidibus' finale isn't an _utter_ asspull, it has basis in previously established details - but putting it together requires a fair bit of thread on the conspiracy evidence board. And of course, until confirmed in-game, all theories remain headcanon.
@anaalvensleben789
@anaalvensleben789 Ай бұрын
To be fair, Minfilia and 'one other' was before Elidibus even properly died. Nothing says she couldn't have helped him out afterwards. He *does* have a conversation with Hydaelyn as we travel to the past that might not have been as one-sided as it seemed. Also 'use up every mote of my essence' is not as unambiguous as Venat's 'though not even my soul remaineth'. The Crystal Tower was already stated to be releasing him to the lifestream bit by bit by G'Raha while using him as a battery and still doesn't preclude Venat's help. EDIT: Or even Athena's. The reflections are still linked to the Source and it isn't as if Athena isn't in the middle of trying to ascend. She had a motive and will to find the Emissary's soul and very likely the ability.

A question I have that maybe the other commenters can help me with. Where is it explained that the shards have separate aetherial seas? I feel I'm the only one not confused by Elidibus being in the Source's Sea. But mostly because I was understanding that it was one Sea, souls just came here to be processed before rebirth. I felt there was no reason the splintered souls wouldn't return to their shard afterwards. I always figured there was just the one Sea that existed as the roots that held together the trunk of the Source. With the branches and leaves its reflections. Then with the situation of the 13th, I figured the Darkness that prevented the souls from resting was more like a blocked drain preventing flow. Am I wrong with these assumptions? I just never felt/remember the game doing anything to suggest there were multiple life streams when it all felt like they were all part of the greater whole. Even if the corporal planes of the reflections were fully separated physically.
@TheoVorster
@TheoVorster Ай бұрын
It’s stated multiple times throughout the game that the Aetherial Seas/Lifestreams from the shards/reflections are separate from each other (though still linked/connected to The Source’s). Besides Hydaelyn mentioning at the beginning of 6.0 when she mentioned how she ferried Minfilia and (we later realize) Emet-Selch’s souls from The First’s Aetherial Sea/Lifestream to The Source’s, it was even mentioned all the way back during the 3.x patches (when the concept of the 14 reflections/shards were first introduced), various NPCs discuss how the WoDs are so desperate to prevent The First from becoming a Void of Lignt, they feel that rejoining The First is a preferable fate as some form of The First’s life would live on by their Lifestream being folded into The Source’s as part of the rejoining. As for how Elidibus’ soul got from The First to The Source, who knows? Perhaps the Crystal Tower in the First being linked to the one in The Source allowed for Elidbius’ soul to be deposited directly into The Source’s aetherial sea/lifestream from the Crystal Tower of the First. Or maybe Athena was powerful enough, that like Hydaelyn, she was able to pluck Elidibus’ soul from The First’s aetherial sea/Lifestream and ferry it over to The Source’s and reconstitute him for her usage.
