If I remember this episode correctly Mitch and the team not only had to deal with live hand grenades but they also had to deal with weapons smugglers or something like that as those grenades were stolen from a military depot or something and the grenades were among those stolen and ended up underwater from a sunken boat if I remember correctly or it was something like that and April also finds the box the grenades came in and she got taken hostage by the smugglers.

I thought the same thing when I first saw this episode as I know they make toys of military weapons like electronic guns that look like M16 machine guns and oozies like the one that was held by a young boy in the cemetery scene from Predator 2.

I've played with toy grenades when I was a kid and one thing I know about them is the pin can't be pulled out without breaking it so when Mitch saw Bridget pull the pin he realized it was real and his training kicked in and he saved a little girl from being severely injured or worse as I know some grenades are designed to disorientate or temporarily blind in the case of flashbangs or even maime so yes that little girl was extremely lucky.

If you pull the pin out. The grenade still wont go off. Pin is holding the spoon in place. Once you remove pin and let go the spoon than the timer is on.. In this case girl pulled the pin out and didnt let the spoon to detach from grenade. Mitch could easly put the pin back in. But he risked it when he tossed it into the water. 😂😉

Mitch should have taken the grenade and just re-pinned it. He is a Navy seal if I remember the character bio correctly? The timer only starts when you let go of it. As long as you are holding it, you can still re-pin it. Throwing it in the water was pretty stupid, what if a swimmer had been close by?

Pulling the pin doesn't activate it. Removing the handle does, the pin is just a safety.

I have to say, early seasons of Baywatch were pretty damn good. Around season 6 is when it started going downhill, with the repetitive story lines and Playboy models trying to be actors.

Those types of Grenades are fragmentation grenades. When they detonate, the steel body breaks into sharp, mangled steel pieces flying through the air at high speed, the fragments rip and tear. Very nasty.

It's the same with Vietnam there are a lot of unexploded landmines still buried in several areas between the 2 sides that fought each other during the war and sadly a lot of innocent people have been seriously hurt or maimed and even killed by them.
