Pantera concert was the Sickest and most Dangerous mosh pit I’ve ever experienced.

I was actually at this concert when they recorded the Walk video. Do you believe I still even have the ticket stub. It was at the Riviera in Chicago. I was Crowd surfing for most of the show? Good story: I seen them at a local joint and people were being thrown down a stairwell by the stage during cfh tour that led to the bathroom. So they came back for vulgar tour and the venue put chicken wire up to prevent it! The fans tore it down and threw at least a dozen people down the steps to the bathroom. Well... I guess not so funny but hardcore!

So, I'm biased because I live in Dallas...right around the band's old stomping grounds..but Pantera just feels more metal than Metallica. I mean, objectively speaking, Metallica has more songs that are consistent and good. But IDK, they stopped being metal somewhere along the way. Some place between getting short haircuts and suing fans who pirated their tunes on Napster. If all of the big metal bands had a cage match for metal supremacy....my money is on Pantera. They're from Texas (Phil originally from Louisiana actually), so you know at least one of them has a gun. And I just don't see them losing a fight to anybody based in San Francisco. :D I remember the year the Dallas Stars won the Stanley Cup, Pantera wrote and recorded a little war song for them. It was pretty catchy. The Stars weren't the most talented team that year, but they were the hardest working and most emotionally invested. Part of it was the song. Every time the Stars scored a goal in the playoffs the arena would erupt with the crunchy guitar riff and everyone would chant "Dallas Stars"..lol. Pantera actually had their own float in the parade through downtown Dallas with the Cup. They caused the parade to be delayed by about 2 hours. Several of the team members had spent the previous day or two at the Abbot's house. The partying got out of hand and they lost track of what time, probably day, it was. At some point, one of the players or band tried throwing the Stanley Cup into the pool from the roof...and missed. The Cup was dented really good. My memories of being there for the parade over 20 years ago are as vivid as yesterday. Good times. Here's a link to the Pantera song for the Stars. It's called Puck Off.
