Two weeks after a brutal robbery left him with a fractured skull, 50-year-old Gurdeep Singh, owner of Pooja Jewellers in Papatoetoe, shares his harrowing experience and calls for stricter laws to curb rising crime rates in New Zealand.
On June 23rd, armed teenage robbers attacked Singh with a hammer and knife in his family-owned jewellery store. Captured on CCTV, the attack was halted when his son, Sunny Singh, defended the family with a ceremonial sword. Now recovering from neurosurgery, Gurdeep Singh opens up about his ordeal and his frustration with the system that he believes fails to protect hardworking citizens.
