Reasons I will keep using Notability for now: 1. I like the square lasso tool which makes copying things like equations easier for me. 2. I would like to be able to copy handwritings from one page to another page because my work involves doing calculations which have some of the things in common with themselves. Being able to copy things to the next page is a must. 3. Audio recording was great a few years ago. Now Notability came with transcription which is like a heaven for people like me who likes to go back to the lectures of their favorite teachers and learn what I missed before. 4. The smaller file size of the notes. In this day and age, we all have to pay for cloud services. Small note sizes matter a lot when you keep taking notes for a living. 5. Skipping to the places I took notes on in a research paper is a must for me. 6. I don't like AI features at all in my notetaking. I will keep adding more. But these are important for me.

@@clarity7531 The creator made the video objectively, which means that it excludes the creator’s own biases. This allows for viewers to effectively weigh out the two apps and determine which one is the best FOR THEM. In conclusion, it all boils down to preference. Although the verdict in the video shows that Goodnotes is a little bit better, some people would still prefer Notability, while some would prefer Goodnotes. Personally, I have both. ^^

After watching your review across various note-taking criteria… I would still say that my vote goes to Notability. There’s a certain minimalism and classy-ness to that app which Goodnotes doesn’t give me. I have an 11 inch ipad air, and the thick blue ribbon on top (or bottom) really eats away at the screen space. I need the edge space for my planners and notebooks. Also, it’s much easier to navigate through pop-down notes/subjects/divider in Notability than it is to have multiple folder in folder in folder and so on, as Goodnotes does. Notability’s templates and community space is much more value for money than goodnotes templates library (pretty much everything is paid) I would give a point to Goodnotes for enabling in-built sticker books, which is a con for notability. Notability’s small file sizes have barely put a dent in my one-drive storage and it’s been 6 months of regular use. I’m guessing because the file sizes are smaller, the apps runs more smoothly and writing functions seem more fluid in Notability, as opposed to the slightly heavy and clunky vibe of goodnotes.

There’s a single one reason why I stick to notability: shapes snap to the template. When you have to draw diagrams, that single snaping feature is amazingly useful to me. If I had to add something else is the fact that notability has widgets now. I like goodnotes, specially now that you can move things from page to page. But that snaping feature to me makes the experience better in notability.

you can open a quick note in goodnotes by double tapping the new... button then before going back to the menu or closing the document, it will prompt you to change the title or delete the quicknote <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="277">4:37</a> you can even see it on the option as a tip "Double tap '+" to create a Quicknote"

I used Zoomnotes first just because it had a ruler and then used Notability for more than a year because Goodnotes didn’t have a ruler tool WHICH I ABSOLUTELY NEEDED FOR MY PHYSICS CLASS and Maths class in High School AND will need in the university. I’m so happy Goodnotes and more apps are adding it now. The REASON why it is important is first of all to measure things and second of all to see the angles in degrees. Those two things are important for physics and mathematics.

Muchas gracias por el video tan detallado muy largo pero lo vi completo y era lo que necesitaba, creo q me decido por Notability porque para mi es muy importante el poder llevarme la seleccion de el lazo a otras paginas, me parece super util la opción de ocultar información con la cinta adhesiva, los sticker son muchos más y son mas bonitos, tiene mas plantillas gratis y variadas que en goodnotes y m gusta q puedo mover la barra de tareas flotante a donde yo decida. Por ultimo la interfaz me parece mas agradable... Gracias en verdad!!

On Mac, you can download the Mac versions of the app. On Windows, you can access GoodNotes in their Windows app. Notability has an option to share links that you can access on the web browser.

Notability provides nice calendars for free, and lots of free templates/planners in the gallery from community members, while everything in Goodnotes shop is charged. Why is that?

Yes they can. But they can’t link your notes to the PDF like those two.

The biggest advantage of Notability vs GoodNotes is that the Handwritten to Text conversion is way more accurate (at least for my illegible handwriting) !

I’m I currently have the several apps that I’ve explored down to two and that is Notability or Noteful I’m having a tough time choosing between the two I understand Notability has the subscription cost but at the same time boy is it simple and easy to use in the writing experiences. Great Noteful writing experiences great as well, but I’m just not sure…

Excellent documentation of both apps. I chose Notability because I felt it had a better handwriting recognition. I am curious to know what your opinion of the best handwriting to text note taking app available to use today. I feel there must be something better than either of these.

Compared to Notability, Goodnotes doesn't start lagging when scrolling through larger pdf files. Also notability has this god awful floating toolbar all the time, which I really hate. Goodnotes 6 has won me over after trying a bunch of those kind of apps.

Thank you for your video. I have the premium version of CollaNote; but I can not get it to record say a zoom meeting. The mic turns orange as though it’s recording, but when I try to go back to listen it tells me volume has been turned off (but it’s not showing off in settings, How do I get it to record?

The audio recording tool doesn't work when you're in a zoom meeting in any note-taking app.

Why the change in opinion? The previous video you made did not support goodnotes, so I'd like to know what made you change your mind and support the update? I am just wondering because I am considering the update but wonder if notablility would be better.

It's not a change, just different scenarios. Alone, the Goodnotes 6 update is terrible. But comparing Notability to Goodnotes; Goodnotes is the better app of the two. But we don't use either app, so we still think they are terrible for personal use. We use Noteful. Hopefully, that makes sense. We try to evaluate apps independently, and in comparison with others. But, at the end of the day, the best apps, in our opinion, are the ones we're using at that time. Best is circumstantial though.

Hi I am willing to choose an app mainly to study on pdfs, so I mostly use the highlighter, pen, rubber tools, text boxes etc. I am very confused about choosing between this apps. Which app do you recommend me? I personally don’t care about the price that much, I would like a suggestion based on the app you think is better and laggs the least (mainly because I find it annoying when the highlighting/writing process is not fluid), also the app which takes less space on my iPad after months of usage. Thank you in advance❤

That would be Notability. But, Notability 14 has been buggier than usual. Just be aware of that, I guess.

Its good, but so hot (we are in summer). I would like you to know that i found out an incredible app called prodrafts. Despite the fact of some missing features, it has great ones like tape, stickers, pencil like notability, calculator, ... and for my surprise infinite canvas and infinite vertical paper. The UI is much better in Notability... also I think the app runs smoothly... Sometimes, Goodnotes takes too long to render a note if its full of content. But anyway... Notability is a little bit glitchy since the last update :/

The link function from GoodNotes is just perfect. But I don‘t like GoodNotes for several reasons. Is there another Note taking App with this functionality? Use Notability . Perfect for me. Only the link functionality is missing :-(

Depends on the usage, anything from 5 to 10 hours. But there was a time when iPadOS 17 drastically removed that time.

GoodNotes for Windows is rubbish so far, and not really compatible with the Apple version.

Chances are, all their other versions would be terrible. That's why we haven't bothered with them. Goodnotes is an iPad-first app, all its other versions might need years to catch up

If only we could also have Notability on Windows, it would definitely be the best. I have Macs, iPads (yes a Mini 6 and a Pro 12.9) but I also have Windows workstations, and only Goodnotes can be had everywhere. I don't know how Notability have ignored this huge competitive advantage they could have had for so long!?!?
