which app has the better search tool?

I use layers extensively as an online private tutor. During a tutoring session, I will share my iPad screen and open up a PDF of the textbook in Noteful. While explaining concepts to the student, I can easily scribble on diagrams in the textbook. When I have more than one student using the same textbook each student can be assigned their own layer.

Noteful’ a layers was a game changer for me. Being able to mark of PDF’s by adding a layer has been a huge help. I can now share the original PDF without including my markups.

Nice review! I’m now finding it hard to choose between Noteful and Noteshelf! I have been playing around with both and discovered that Noteshelf has a good Favourites tool which allows you to save up to 7 preset pens and colours. You can lock photos and text in Noteshelf, which you can’t do in Noteful but Noteful has does have Layers, which I find useful. I don’t find the pen tools very good in Noteful: they all seem to be the same. Maybe it’s because I don’t have an Apple pencil, just a cheap clone which doesn’t have pressure sensitivity. Could you do an update on Noteful 3 sometime maybe?

I don’t why but when I write on pen and paper, I retain more information. I have the iPad Pro and I just use it for watching contents.

I would happily use Noteful over Goodnotes (or any other note tool tbh) but it lacks *the* most important feature in that you cannot search your handwriting! I would easily pay £20 (one time payment) for Noteful if it had handwriting search but until then it isn't even something I would use for free I am sad to say. It's mid-2024, any note taking tool that doesn't support handwriting search is an instant no.

As usual, Ropsie, you nailed it! The lack of a more useful search function is the reason I cannot use Noteful. I hope I am wrong but I have a suspicion that the developers will add handwriting recognition but along with a subscription fee. Tell me I am wrong-I would welcome that. And I would welcome being wrong with my pessimistic view they will never improve the search functions.😮

It might be worth noting that there is a Favorites icon in the top toolbar. This allows you to permanently assign 7 pens with different colours and thicknesses to the sidebar which is really useful. Also, and I’m not sure if this is a recent update, there is a ruler and an option to show the status bar.

when an app thinks it's smarter than you, that's a problem. Corrects letters, thinking I'm wrong. Application for writing should be paper, not thinking. That's why I don't use it, it's a useless thing. I use “dumb” applications that “understand” that they are paper and not a language teacher.

For me, it is by far the best note taking app for android. Even the things you criticised in this review, I find very useful. For example, I love to see page numbers on the outline. I also love that the navigation/options are hidden on the home screen. Of course, they should give us the option to change that to our liking, but not change it for everyone.

Is it worthy to shift from Samsung notes app to this ? At present have an i phone and Samsung tab.. Trying to find one note taking app that is best suitable for all eco systems and importing and editing larger pdfs and exporting them. One note has a limitation of 100 mb so can't use it😢

I just recently downloaded it. It's nice, but I've noticed that it lacks many functions, but the developers said to give suggestions in Instagram, and they're taking the suggestions into consideration and putting it in their list. I feel like some note-taking apps are better even, but I can’t wait to see how far they'll improve, so I'll stick to them while using some other note apps on the side😊.

Are you able to share your OneNote notebooks from an iPad Apple device to a Dell device at work we use Dell products at home. I use Apple and I’d like to take notes on my iPad in one note and be able to sync it with my work, OneNote. Do you think that’s possible?

Unfortunatly the currency conversion tool is buggy, as soon as one of the currency number goes reaches 1000 the conversion result is wrong. It displays 1 instead of 1000.

Thank you for this video. It would be nice to use the journal where we also have Apple Pencil or Apple Pencil Pro. My favorite thought is an iPad mini Pro 1-2 Tb, with an Apple Pencil Pro and this journal app across my iCloud account.

Hello, thanks for your review . I am considering it to store my children’s homeschool work through the years. We have been using OneNote where I upload scans of their using the Rocketbook resusable notebook. I like that in this app it looks like it will be easier for me to move notes around and create sections. I like that my children will be able to easily draw on their notes vs OneNote where it doesn’t zoom in as well and sometime the edits don’t stay put on the scans. I also like that they can “turn the pages” vs one note the have to click to another page. I have one question, what is tape used for exactly? Is it decorative? Also I tried using and wrote something over it but it hid my text 😅 I might be using it wrong.

Well… …the Period in which you may update free from MarginNote 3 ends on July 15th ! And once you did it, you are informed to keep the MarginNote 3 Version on your iPad. ? I’ve got a bitter taste. Everything points to a slow but surly change into a subscription, in my Opinion. I wouldn’t be surprised if, after a Year or so, the free Update from Version 3 suddenly ends. „Test phase over…“ That damn Apple Politics. Such a Pitty, since the improvements are welcome.

hi, glad to see these feature changes to it and the scenes edition is really useful. I've been using either PowerPoint or OneNote on the Mac to do this types of freeform drawing, and a feature is quite useful
