angled my gopro camera up to capture parachute opening. first 7ish seconds is regular speed. the remainder of the video is the same opening about 15 slower.

Great to see the how canopy slowly expands before the slider drops in such detail. Nice bit of filming to keep it all in the frame. It must have been a very pleasant opening.

I love these openings where your chute pulls you to the left and right while opening..... it feels awesome haha. Some jumpers prefer their openings soft as a feather but I like m rough, it just gives me a kick, can't help myself :)

@@jaffacalling53 86th tbh... still a rookie indeed, I'm assuming you're talking about increased wear on your gear with rough openings and the fact that I haven't experienced an opening that was too hard, + the fact that you want those smooth clean openings if you jump a smaller chute which are a lot more unforgiving?

That looks like the firebolt by racer. I tested one out a few years ago. Really soft opening canopy. It's the only non cross-braced canopy I've seen with a closed nose. Good job keeping that whole opening in frame... must not have been easy. Blue skies

I've never gone parachuting myself. But I gotta say I now know why it's so friggin important that those things get folded properly.
@zeroskater7208 жыл бұрын
Honestly the folds don't change a whole lot. It just makes your canopy last a bit longer. You can have a malfunction with a perfect packjob.
@dandymcgee8 жыл бұрын
This is sooooooooo misguided and completely false. Folding it wrong = tangled lines = chute opens incorrectly or too late. Folding the parachute correctly is critical to it performing as designed, and considering what's at risk I wouldn't just toss it in the pack. This statement is 100x true for base jumpers where a quick opening chute is literally the difference between life and death.
@zeroskater7208 жыл бұрын
+dandymcgee obviously you can't just wad it up and throw it in the bag. that wasn't my point.

Really cool!!, recently on an opening I had by B lines look like they had way too much slack on them, bugged me out thought I had a malfunction , but after flaring I could see they tightened up like this one, this normal I'm a student on my level 8, thanks!

Put dacron lines on my Sabre 2 to ease the opening shock. Damn thing hesitated for way to long before the end cells opened. Looked a bit like this video. Damn near chopped it at 1800 ft. Seems like pumping the breaks to get the slider down is just the opposite of what to do with a Sabre 2 and new Dacron lines ( per PD ). Opening high until those lines get broken in.

QUESTION: How does that pilotchute collapse after pulling the parachute out? How is this called? How does it work? I know it is to reduce drag for better canopy performance
@andrewglen10906 жыл бұрын
Max Martini it has a kill line. After the canopy comes out of the bag the bag slides towards the pilot chute about 6in out so uncocking the pilot chute causing it to collapse

I've had snivels that long in real life it seems. Scary when you can see all 4 line groups in perfect order. William Green on line twists. Make sure your risers are not tucked under the reserve in the packing tray. They need to come out clean. And remember altitude is your friend.
@seq1654324 жыл бұрын
I've had the slider stuck up on top. One of the slider grommets worked it's way over a stop ring (BIG DEFECT!) at the attachment point. SCARY thing - was it slowed me down enough that I CONTEMPLATED (for a moment) - riding it down that way!!!
@seq1654324 жыл бұрын
Reminds me of when I bought a canopy that STALLED on opening. What's wrong with that? It means your drogue chute has a good chance of ending up IN FRONT of your canopy. BELIEVE me! That is a BAD THING! :) Corrected the problem by creating a new brake stow about 5" lower so that the canopy tended to surge a tiny bit rather than stall on opening.

***** LOL I wasn't expecting anyone to take that comment seriously! Yes you are right about the dangers to the back - my very first jump they forgot to pack the slider at the top and it opened really hard and yes I did hurt my back although it didn't show for a few days... funny thing is the next week when I did my second jump I was expecting the canopy to open fast like the previous week and when it didn't and I looked up all I saw was a bundle of washing on the end of some string so I went for the reserve - I had one more quick look up and it was looking more like a parachute (but I did throw my dummy ripcord in the process). My back has never been perfect since but that may be from other things I have put it through over the years...

+DeansVideoClips I sensed a little sarcasm from your comment but didn't know for sure haha. Out of my 47 jumps, I've had 2 very unpleasant openings. Funny thing is that they were both from the same sabre 1. Lesson to be taught ; don't jump a sabre
