Flying a glider is relatively safe but in case of a mid-air collision or a technical problem, we like to have a plan B. Wearing an emergency parachute is a common habit. But do you know how a parachute looks from the inside and how to use it?

Great choice to get a square parachute, Stefan. 👍 It makes it a lot safer if you can steer and land into wind and flare like a real wing.

I’m a glider pilot and skydiver. It surprises me how few, if any, pilots know how to skydive. If the time comes, I doubt you know anything about body flight to stabilize and deploy. Good luck.

I wish English subtitles were included for the section of the video starting at 6:53 where the employee is describing something in German, considering that the rest of the video was in English. Or maybe a brief description of what he was saying in the video description since it's only a few sentences. Unfortunately the auto generated captions don't even generate the German text (which I could then translate online), let alone translate them to English (hopefully this will be available soon, so you can watch videos no matter what languages you or the content creator speak). Sadly, I haven't spoken or practiced Deutsch in well over a decade so I'm of no use in creating a translation. Maybe if I had caught on to KZfaq early I could have practiced by watching German KZfaq videos and making translated subtitles. Use it or lose it. Anyways, this was an extremely awesome video and I really enjoyed seeing some of the small details of the process explained, many things I would have never thought about and recorded and put together very well. Thank you very much, looking forward to part two.

My first wife worked in a parachute factory, things have changed in 40 years the materials are totally different and the size of the finished product so much smaller and convenient. If it's steerable and flare able isn't some training necessary or is it impossible to spill the air that would result in a more rapid descent.
@SteFly
@SteFly 3 жыл бұрын
This canopy is well tested as a reserve parachute for skydivers and you do not necessarily need to steer and flare. The brakes are set to 50% so that you can land without injuries: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p8CegLF7ztnFoJs.html For sure it is better to steer to a good landing spot and flare at the landing. This should also be possible without practice. Soon I will do a tandem skydive and perhaps a beginner´s course.

Great Vid, Stephan. Anyone know if theces chutes are available in the US and if so do they require special training for repacking? Any skydiving certification required for the pilot in US? Excellent product. Thanks!

I'm pleased to see that you went for a square parachute which enables you to steer should you need to use it.But have you had parachute training?I think it would be to your advantage to experience what a jump feels like as with other life experiences it will be different for each individual and having to leave your glider is stressful enough without the additional pressure of the parachute jump itself.....................................
@SteFly
@SteFly 3 жыл бұрын
So far I had no skydive or special training. There is a tandem skydive planned this year and perhaps I will make a beginner´s course. You are absolutely right that some experience would be better but it is not mandatory.

@@SteFly I was thinking purely along the lines of getting that first shock out of the way and it can be a shock,pleasant or not it's something having had the experience that can prepare you for that feeling.My two jumps were a very different thing,but if I had to jump from an aircraft now I would be assured and confident...........................

Stefan, how do you train to use this parachute? How do you exit a glider in an emergency to use a parachute? Cheers from yyz
@researchcapt
@researchcapt Жыл бұрын
Why don't gliders carry parachutes in their empennage (aft section)? Many other small aircraft do. You do need to be at a relative high AGL for a personal parachute to work. Not as high for a plane with an attached parachute.

I have major issues with a square bailout parachute and no training, as a skydiver with many hundreds of jumps i can't see it ending well, I was expecting you to say you'd done a number of skydives, plus whats the minimum bailout height.....? A lot more than on a round I bet......
@sparkie66

Same thoughts. I have around 1700 skydives and decided i dont need the extra hassle of linetwists for instance after bailing out low.
@tanyano9
@tanyano9 9 ай бұрын
@@sparkie66 Its a totally bad idea imo with no training, would the guy know what to do in the event of a "Line over", but my greatest thought is flaring too high and piling into the ground and breaking both legs or worse.......

There is a Pin that secures the spring in the Back of the Package. When you pull this pin out when your out of the glider (manually or with a rope attached to the glider), the spring the the small chute goes up, fills with air and pulls out the rest and the real parachute..
