You just finish the rope and do the loop with a simple rope whipping? If you don't know what this is, search youtube. For advanced technique you could splice a loop into the rope.

Thank you for the video. It is both instructive and thorough but I'm wondering if instead of rotating anti-clockwise can it be rotated clock-wise or even a combination of both?
@Paracordguild
@Paracordguild 3 жыл бұрын
Indeed it can! Playing with patterns like that is the next level of kumihimo! You can get a spiral effect in the opposite direction or a zig-zag pattern. Both have their uses.

Thanks for the easy to understand tutorial. I'm a little confused about the length ratio, tho. 3.5:1 ? That seems a bit extreme, especially since you mentioned in another reply that this braid has a hollow core. Where's all that material going? Are you certain you didn't mean 1.35:1 ? I'm asking because I found this video when I was looking for different/more interesting ways to braid speaker and headphone cables. 15m of cable for a one meter braid would be an obvious no-no for several reasons - and very unfortunate since I really like the elegant look of this pattern.
@protator
@protator 2 жыл бұрын
Ok, I just watched the your video about the 4 color variant and that cleared things up. 3.5:1 for the 4 cords, so 1.75:1 for each of the 8 individual strands. Still a bit high for my specific use case, but at least I was able to make sense of the numbers ^^.

This is an 8 strand Z-twist *kongo-gumi* (金剛組, "gumi" means braid"). To get an S-twist, do right up, left down vs left up, right down. The kongo-gumi pattern can be expanded to any additional multiple of 4 strands.

@arghc
@arghc 3 жыл бұрын
@@Paracordguild More than 30 years ago (!!!) I came across a book by Catherine Martin (Kumihimo: Japanese Silk Braiding Techniques) and thought "It would be cool to tie knots in fancy cord". Investigating how much it would cost to get a marudai was my most dramatic crafting sticker shock event as previously I had just bought a crochet hook here, a skein or roll of cheap yarn there. Nothing that cost more than a dollar or 2. Now I make my own looms and am a member of the Braid Society, etc.

I just tried this, adding a third pair, and got a 3-color spiral. I just had to space the pairs out somewhat evenly on the disc. Seems like you can extend this to 4 pairs, 5 pairs and beyond. Your limit is the number of slots in the disk. This is so cool, and amazingly efficient!
