I have been keeping one for 2 years. There is one pecularity about keeping them. If a paradise fish has been growing with other fish since the beginning, it is usually quite sociable and potentially aggressive only to similar species like betta. However, if kept alone for a while, it can react very violently to introduction of any new fish. Of course, it is unlikely to hurt a cichlid of comparable size or bigger, but even a much bigger comet goldfish can suffer.

I bought 2 males and 2 females is it good to keep them together in 120 litre aquarium? One of the males began to attack my mollies and swordtail

I keep them in species only tank. They r very personable fish and their attitude differs from one fish to another. but if u have 2 male in 30G tank u definitely need good plants coverage. Else males will fight. if that fish continue to chase other fishes then u may need to rehome 1 male.

currently males dont fight much maybe cuz they are young 2,5-3 cm, it is funny that one of the females which is the smallest chases one of the males and the other female

There is a german aquaristics book from the jear 1857 called "das süßwasser = aquarium". The paradise fish is already mentioned as a staple in freshwater aquariums, so they were definitely already present in aquariums of the 1850s

hi dave, i would love to hear about what species it mentions. also are bettas included? bettas have been domesticated for maybe 1000 years? and they could have been carried in a trade caravan.

Keep as many plants as possible. Make it a jungle tank and provide multiple refuge or break of sight.

I really had problems dealing with aggression with my girls. I needed to separate them, because my 20 gallon jungle tank was too small. I would only recommend keeping them in pairs or with slightly smaller, peaceful asian fish like the harlequin rasbora. I would recommend keeping some underrated betta species for a 10 gallon Edit: i just saw your video about your betta imbellis. He looks really healthy

i have bought 2 and placed them in a half filled 12 gal plastic tub with just a mass of plants all mixed up, unrooted, being stored as surplus. the plants are so thick the fish can't swim and have to wiggle to get through. surface is covered in duckweed, frogbit. underneath is guppy grass, sagitaria, pearl weed, and java moss. they find or make little pockets and just lay there. there are also 15 male guppies in it for the past 6 months. nobody bothers nobody, and from a pic of the natural habitat, it looks like the same plant density. so i think if you make a dense plant soup, you will eliminate any ability for aggression.
