These fish are extremely hardy and adaptable. They can also live and do thrive in cooler temperatures. They're able to recover from any illnesses quickly, at least in my experience. For the paradise gourami, no heater, no filter, no problem! They're built like a brick. Can put them in ponds too.

Best fish I have ever had! Got mine in a 4ft lowboy heavily planted tank as the centrepiece predatory fish with guppy/endlers, peppered corydoras, amano and neocaridina shrimp. It's a brown bodied, red tailed fish and I have noticed that only blue tailed guppy/endlers are left alone. However, any with red tails don't survive for very long and only the fastest blue tailed ones survive it's predatory nature. I got it specifically to keep the guppy/endlers population in control and it's doing a great job so far. Got many reddish brown vegetation in their too so it just melts into them like camouflage. Awesome fish!

I have a 170cm long tank awaiting beautiful gurami (related) fish and now I'm looking at this fish wondering if it will predate or lethally nip on crystal and amano shrimps that inhabit said tank already.

I used to keep one with goldfish and they got along just fine. Then I gave the goldfish away. After the goldfish I got a firemouth cichlid and it started beating the paradise fish, so I put it in a smaller tank. Then the firemouth jumped out of the tank at night and died. I got another goldfish and put the paradise fish back. Incredibly, it started attacking the new goldfish. Apparently, it got savage living all alone and now hates any other fish. Lesson: keep paradise fish in a company from a young age and on.

I had one from a baby with gouramis and angels. They all got along fine until a disease hit my tank and killed all but 2 blue gouramis and the paradise. After I redid my tank I added a few small angels. The paradise murdered all of them! Same kind of thing. He’s now living solitary. I feel bad but don’t dare give him tank mates.

@@sandyloiacano6141 Stuff happens. I once had a goldfish eat a cichlid. By the way, that paradise fish is dead now. Killed by another goldfish after attempting to bully it. I assume the goldfish unsuccessfully attempted to eat it, and the paradise fish died from the consequences.

These fish change colors like actual chameleons in a pond. My fish go from blue orange to white yellow . they can also change their whole body color to blend in with yellow and green plants. If you watch them hunt, they actually climb out of the water to catch insects and snails. They are also intelligent fish and definitely recognize me, greetings me by flashing the white they can make (my pond is made from an old tractor tyre, black in color and the fish contrast themselves when they want me to see them). Despite the vivid colors they have amazing ability to camouflage themselves using their chameleon like abilities. My pond is about 1200 liters community cold water, average temp about 15-18 celcius, soft water, continuous slow flow (municipal leak spring ).

how do they go with your other pond mates?
@ChrisMorton
@ChrisMorton 5 ай бұрын
@@timmeh1384 actually they fight amongst themselves, and pretty much dont harass the other three species of fish (ruby barbs, platys, pond loaches). also the capacity of the pond allows enough space for each fish to establish its territory. i do recommend for ponds.

@ChrisMorton
@ChrisMorton 5 ай бұрын
@@timmeh1384 no i dont think so...give it some reeds to hide in, it will definitely eat your baby guppies and platies...but everything else is already eating those. give them a go, provide shelter for them, and if possible try to get two females per male (males shouldnt be in the same tank together, but a pond gives sufficient space for separate territories, they tend to attack their own kind)

I have two in a 20 litre and added 4 guppies from my other tank, all small including two males, and so far the paradise fish havent touched the guppies. There is a dominant one in the pair, but since I’ve got some floating plants and the other fish he’s laid off him a bit.

I love this fish..i have a 180L tank. I would love 10 oto's, 12 pearl danio's and 1 (female?) paradise fish...but also..and here it comes: 200 Bloody mary shrimp! How would this go you think? Bye bye all shrimp in one week? Or would he just eat now and then a shrimp and leaves them for the rest alone? I mean 200 shrimp will make allot of baby's every month, enough to keep the shrimp population high enough?

Sometimes they do that. One of the things I enjoy about them is their personality and unique behavior. But just to be safe take a close look at it from time to time and make sure it appears healthy and disease free if you notice any unusual behavior you haven't observed in it before.

Ive had terrible luck with the German blue ram. Is the parodies fish a better alternative?
@kenet362
@kenet362 Жыл бұрын
German blue rams fail for a lot of people due to them having either to high Ph or too low temperature, they like it hot and acidic. If your looking for an alternative centerpiece fish than the paradise fish would be great, just keep in mind not all will be community friendly as each have their own personality.

It's possible with the right cichlids, but I would say keep them small enough that that can't eat it, and less aggressive cichlids would be the best place to start.
