The high speed line between Paris via Belgium to the Netherlands is absolutley great. It's a big success story, it's such a great success that trains between Paris and The Netherlands are pretty often fully booked, for that reason the prices can be high as well. However there are some great connections by slow train as well for some parts of Belgium, these slow trains are actually even a bit faster. From Paris North you find local trains (TER, line K13) to Maubege. Until a couple of years ago, these trains where just called intercity. From Maubege there's a great connection for trains to Charleroi in Belgium, from where on you can continue the journey by train to other destinations in Belgium or The Netherlands.
In this video we'll cover the railway station of Paris Nord in France, the trains to Maubege, the railway station of Maubege and ticket construction on how to book tickets for these trains.

As someone who is interested in historical trains I wouldn’t mind being in an older carriage. One day we might miss them in fact and have nostalgia, no matter how worn out they look 😂. I feel like I’m back in the early 90s the good old days. You’re right though at least they could keep the windows clean!

You followed the route of the classic Nord Express which provided direct service from Paris to Copenhagen (pre high speed rail). After Charleroi - the Nord Express went to Liege, Aachen , Koln .... Hamburg .. Copenhagen

In May I did this trip but I took the TER from Paris Gare du Nord to Amiens. Then a TER from Amiens to Lille. Then the IC from Lille via Kortrijk to Antwerp and then the L-train to Roosendaal and then the IC to Den Haag.

I prefer to take the Ouigo between Paris & Lille. Save time & money. Then, continue on the train to Kortrijk/Antwerp.

@@shirshenduroy yeah taking a Ouigo from Paris to Lille saves a lot of time! I only did it because I wanted to travel with the BB22000 locomotive and Corail coaches. Other than that it takes a long time to get to Lille. I left Paris at 8.03 and arrived in Amiens at 9.24 and then there was no train to Lille till 10.50. I arrived in Lille at 12.07. There is a TGV InOui at 10.14 that gets into Lille Flanders at 11.18. So that saves a lot of time.

Absolutely interested in how to connect between the different train stations in Paris. That would be a great resource. I live in Arcachon, and the TGV trains from Bordeaux terminate at Gare Montparnasse. I'm especially interested in connecting to: Gare de Lyon and Gare du Nord. OMG, there's a Five Guys restaurant! I had one where I lived in Flagstaff, AZ, USA, but haven't had one of their burgers since I moved to France 2 1/2 years ago. Almost worth a day trip to Paris just for that!!!

Metro line 4 directly connects Montparnasse & Nord, direction Porte de Clignancourt, 17min, €2,10. For Gare de Lyon, take bus line 91 (super frequent, goes both to Gare du Lyon & Nord), takes about 30mins!

The main difference between an intercité and a TER is financing. The first is financed by the State while the second is financed by the Region towards which it is heading. Yours was probably from the Hauts-de-France region (Northern region)

I was pretty shocked at the Eurostar/Thalys prices from Paris to Antwerp. So I found 2 hacks: Paris-Lille by TGV, then local train to Kortrijk, then IC to Antwerp. The other option seems to take a cheaper Thalys to Bruxelles then IC to Antwerp. Also, as a Frenchman, please cut the accordion when editing footage from France, it's really really irritating :)

They really rip us Antwerpenaren off. Another way to save some money is just by going to Brussels. Because usually they run only 1/2 of the train north of Brussels, it is a much more "competitive" train to get a seat on. It's really frustrating, but at least Brussels and Antwerp are well enough connected. On the weekday you only lose about 15 minutes of travel time and no more than 30 to rransfer

Even better! The train from Lille to Kortrijk is the same train as the IC to Antwerp. So you can stay in the train all the way from Lille to Antwerp!

@@physhI just looked it up for you. If you look at 14 dec for example. At 08.09 a regional train to Kortrijk (regional 19711) departs from Lille Flandres. It arrives at Kortrijk at track 3 at 8.45. At 8.58 IC 730 departs for Antwerpen Centraal also form track 3. This looks confusing but it is the same train. The trains sits at Kortrijk station for 13 minutes because another parts of the IC to Antwerpen is coming from Poperinge. It are two 3 car NMBS AM96 trains (1 from Lille, 1 from Poperinge) that connect at Kortrijk and go to Antwerpen. 08.09, 12.09, 14.09, 16.09, 18.09, 19.09 and 21.09 this trains rides.

Btw the gare Maubeuge is worn out and won’t win a beauty prize but fabulously 70s nonetheless . I approve even though you don’t find it special haha. So French too.
