Please don't recommend this without being very clear that people need to take the most direct train that doesn't stop everywhere to avoid getting robbed. This line goes through a lot of fairly unsafe suburbs and the risk is fairly high, even worse during the olympics.

this is a great explanation - I was really confused about how this all worked, and now it makes perfect sense. We'll be heading there this fall.

I may consider going to Italy with this route next time to enjoy a bit of Mediterranean Coast. Perhaps in a future Interrail trip I could get a TGV straight down to Marseille from Lille (connecting from the 1104 London-Amsterdam Eurostar) followed by Cannes or Nice and get that amazing TER service (love those double-deck Coradias, as I've ridden one from Luxembourg to Metz and found it very stylish and comfortable) along the coast to Ventimiglia for this Intercity service across to Milan, with a stopover Monte Carlo on the way. Last month, I went to Milan via Luxembourg and Switzerland (you can see my latest videos on it), which was also a lot of fun as I took a route that completely avoided compulsory reservations all the way from Brussels downwards. TER routes from Luxembourg to Basel, changing at Metz (stayed overnight there as I found an inexpensive hotel right in front of the station) and Strasbourg is also a path I highly recommend doing.

Nice train. I took a taxi and it took much longer than I thought. It does amaze me that people, such as you, are so immersed in carbon footprints and electrification. Me, I love fossil fuels. I always will. Nothing will change that.

There are no mobile signal repeaters onboard these trains. Those were used in the past, but not anymore. There is a new technology implemented by DB to laser etch the windows in order to allow the mobile signal to pass through, eliminating the need for repeaters. You can in fact see this etched surface when you look through the window

The "normal" lounge is for all Status Customers of DB, however the Premium is reserved for Platin customers OR 1st Class Tickets that are not a "Sparpreis". The difference is that in Platinum Lounge you get also alcoholic beverages and meals (The normal lounge is just equipped with free softdrink and coffee machines).

It´s more scenic to take the regional tran från Munich to Lindau and there hop on this train to Zürich. With the RE-train on the non electrified line you´ll roll through pastoral landscape throuh Immental an you can ride the RE-train with the D-ticket

Rode this train from Luxembourg to Metz at the end of my first travel day with Interrail earlier this month and I absolutely loved these trains. Both cities are impressively picturesque and I had a great time exploring both. I stayed overnight in the Hotel Alerion right in front of Metz Ville station (very good price for such a perfect location), which allowed me to take the 0642 TER to Strasbourg and then travel onwards to and then through Switzerland, before finishing in Milan to catch a midnight flight back to Manchester.

What happens with some KZfaqers when speaks English, h in English is pronounced aspirated, Huge, /‘hiu:dz/.

Amsterdam is losing its direct swiss daytime connection mid july and will be a new Munich direct instead leaving only the Nightjet
